Summer
The summer season has finally reached its peak. The sunshine is plentiful, the days are long and the air is hot and humid - but the evenings do not seem to provide the same relief that they once had, and remain somewhat stuffy. Thunderstorms have also began appearing more frequently, particularly in the rainforest and eastern region, though the rain is welcomed after a relatively dry season thus far.

With the young male's newfound freedom, he was beginning to branch out far and wide, wandering further than he usually did. He had no true home to return to, so no curfew, no questions to answer about where he had been, no nosiness to worry about. It was true freedom, and he didn't mind it at all.
He had wandered south towards the drylands, if only out of curiosity and not much else. Though, his curiosity grew when he realized there were quite a few lions flocking towards the boneyard. So, he followed them, wondering what was so exciting about piles and piles of bones.
When he ebbed closer, he realized what exactly was up. Littered throughout the boneyard were logs, decorated similarly but uniquely, and dozens of lions were sniffing them out, breaking them open, to find prizes inside. Greed flared within him, and he wanted in.
Stalking forward, he set his eyes on one hidden in a nestled pile of smaller bones, and pounced upon it (spraying the pile a bit), claiming it with a snarl... even though no one nearby cared. Then he began working on splitting it with his sharp claws, eager to find what was hidden inside.

Disappointment. That was what was inside. Nothing but wood splinters and disappointment. Veros frowned, looking around and wondering if this was some kind of joke, some kind of ploy to distract dozens of lions, lure them to the boneyard for nefarious purposes. Veros didn't know the Amaryllis gods well, but he wouldn't put it past them either.
That was, given he'd even acknowledge their existence.
He grumbled under his breath as he walked from the empty log, red eyes keen on finding another to see if his luck would prove any better. He had walked a few feet before spotting another and rushing over to it, claiming it with the ghost of a snarl before anyone could beat his to it. No one was around. He was being paranoid for no reason. Whatever.
Working with his claws, he sought to rip through the moss and vegetation that held this one together, to see if it held anything of interest inside.

Finally, there was something inside!
Berries mixed with a neatly wrapped bundle of herbs that he completely disregarded at first. He lapped up the berries hungrily, realizing in hindsight that they could have been poisonous. Were the gods that cruel? Afterwards, he remembered the small packet of herbs and picked it up. Perhaps he could bribe someone with this later. It might've not been useful to him, but someone could find it useful enough.
On to the next!
He had passed several others as he searched with a keen eye for his neck wooden victim. When he found it, he didn't pounce upon it with a snarl this time. No one cared about what he claimed as his here. There was enough to go around...

When he tore this one open, finally feeling like he had found a rhythm (of luck, perhaps), he was yet again disappointed. Inside were splinters and a lonely worm, wriggling frantically to get away. Veros closed the log and discarded it like yesterday's news, huffing in frustration. Was he really that unlucky?
He considered leaving at this point, feeling as if he were the only one having such bad luck with this... but curiosity got the better of him and instead, during his frustrated strut towards the outskirts of the boneyard, he found another sitting innocently at the side of his path. He growled in frustration, but got to work on opening it up anyway.

she hadn't expected the boneyard to be quite so... crowded. with snow still covering the ground (in the middle of summer, make it make sense) she had imagined she'd be alone, but that clearly was not the case. and while at first she is annoyed at the numerous bodies present she is intrigued when she spots them smashing open odd logs, revealing things that she would never have expected to find here.
so louve sets to hunting and retrieves one herself, smashing a paw down on it and hoping that hers is not a dud. maybe she'd find something interesting to bring home.

a grin crosses her face as she reveals a few interesting items, plucking some things she thinks her children would like from the mess. a couple of interesting bones adorned with shiny stones, and some unique looking feathers and furs.
and then, because she's quite pleased with the result, she sets to looking for another one. there are others around her but they are easy to ignore, focusing on the task at hand. in the lee of a skull she finds another log, and repeats the same process as before, slicing through it with her claws and watching eagerly to see what emerges.

this time disappointment is followed fast by frustration, a curl of her lip and a snarl as she smashes the log more thoroughly. there is nothing interesting and so she quickly discards it, determined to find as many as she can and reap all of the rewards. wherever they came from she was certain her flesh and blood would appreciate the trinkets.
still paying no mind to the others that were present she sets to hunting, this time peering in to the shadows created by the skulls hollowed out inside. sure enough another log is tucked within and she is quick to snatch it and break it open, hoping this time she is not denied her prize.

A few small trinkets tumbled out and he found himself somewhat amused. Pretty stones may not have had much practical use, but they did look very nice, and may add a touch of elegance to his den. They were set aside and he set to work on a new log just as soon as he spotted one. It seemed an odd game, but generally harmless. Far less harmless than the strange chill and snow that seemed to linger mysterious well beyond the natural beginning of summer. For all he knew, it was an odd local custom he'd somehow missed out on the previous couple of years.

The boneyard was a place Naeina liked to haunt from time to time. The skeletons had some sort of allure for her and her little creepy soul. It was a semi-normal day minus the odd winter weather that had continued paired with mischief. The shadow had come to the edge of the boneyard to find odd looking logs. The decor was entirely out of place. She studied one that had been left on top of a skull by leaning in to inspect it. Her head tilted one way then another and eventually deemed it safe to interact with. She placed both paws on either side of the log and pressed downward to break it over the skull it rested on.
