The morning air was frigid as the sun continued its slow, steady ascent towards the sky. And though the dwindling rays, which coated the world in shades of amber and gold, would once speak to the warmth of the newly-arrived summer – amaryllis was not so lucky. They were trapped, it seemed, in this eternal winter and as the weeks went on, it seemed less and less likely that they would ever find reprieve from its grasp.

The only silver lining was that, today, they would be treated to a much needed distraction.

abruptly, a loud and thunderous sound erupted from the depths of the crater, though it was certainly no lion or other known creature that had made it. it rumbled through the air in domineering fashion, likely able to be heard for miles and miles beyond the scope of the territory. and if any wandering souls were close enough to pick up on the sound, and curious enough to investigate, they would find a mystery at the source — for better or for worse.

because trapped down there, in the middle of the pit, was a creature of gargantuan proportions, seen only once before within the lands of amaryllis. Lured here by some unknown force, it sported large, curled tucks and a thick wholly pelt, towering tall above all else — akin to an elephant in another life, it was an equally good opportunity for reward as it was a threat. And perhaps it would also serve as a reminder to those that had come across a similar anomaly the year prior.

Pyrrha has seen a few strange things in her life. But this creature did not compare to any of them. It exceeded even the most oddest and dream like things she could even imagine within her mind. And seeing the mammoth leaves her momentarily in awe. But... But she looks closer. A truck, tiny ears, warm eyes. It's not unlike elephants that she has seen before. Maybe did that mean this was prey too? She's not foolish enough to try and hunt this thing on her own, she watches from a distance and she scans around for other lions who might have noticed and come lurking around to see what might come of this absolutely strange encounter.

Io has never seen such a animal, it was like an elephant but much larger, it had Kong hair and enormous tusks. How could something like this exist at all? And how's that she was seeing it just now and not before? So many questions poked into their head as she contemplated the creature trapped in the bottom for the pit. And was there even a chance for mere lions to take it down? If any they would need at least an entire pride or more in order to be able to kill that thing.

She wanted to help and there she saw another lion but a yearling. They would need more back up if they wanted to success..

he were a lonely blight upon this blank and frigid canvas: quiet, save the muted crunch! of snow-padded footfalls. but just as quickly as he succumbs to the tranquility of dawn – emitting soft sighs of relief into wisps of condensation – does a disruptive trumpeting shatter all illusions of peace. despite the untimely disturbance (and the aggravation it incites), the adolescent’s trajectory quickly shifts with intentional pursuit and piqued curiosity. perhaps the day would offer a new adventure, yet.

eager stare pinpoints the behemoth with ease as he encroaches upon the infamous colosseum with predatory swagger and slavering jaw. the presence of unknown peers – each hunched in stalking position – earns his brief acknowledgment before he, too, seeks to mimic their posturing. and although he’d never encountered a creature, so imposing, youthful arrogance were wont to assure him that this were only just another target to fell.

unseasonably cold, elodie had baby siblings now, and she was... a little worried. what if they got too cold in the snow and their noses fell off? it was supposed to be summer!

given the existence of them, at this point, she would absolutely not turn down a hunt. so, when she spotted a gathering forming, she fell into a pattern well taught to her by leila - slinking quietly into the group, a bright expression upon her cherubic features, yourhful exuberance pushing both her ears and whiskers forward as she chirped in as hushed a tone as she could manage - "hope nobody minds if... woah-!" she strangled her own exclamation with a paw to her lips.

it was a mammoth. an actual mammoth. a whole, hairy, from-the-fossil-record mammoth.

elodie swallowed. "guess we need all the help we can get," she whispered, glancing around at the others, more than a little nervous. she had not really hunted much properly before. what a way to start.

one year, no bonus
At the start of the day, he had promised his one of his elders that he was going to be hopping on doing some training. Exercises that would help in the Hollow's time of need and that superior had looked to him fully believing in him. Because at that point, Cosmin had believed in himself to. He would totally go out and get that "bread" so to speak but the second he left the home territory, well, that plan died.

Instantly he roamed across the dunes and his gait was slackened and slouched, crawling to the warmest spot that he could find and trying his hardest to take a nap. Letting his mind wander and be free, lazing himself across the ground with his bottom half draped across the ground and his legs splayed out. Exhausted as he was, that nap came quickly and took over his senses and all prior obligations with ease. Certainly shirking his responsibilities by instantly forgetting that he had promised to do such a thing.

Though, when a hard stomp, stomp, stomp echoed around the territory did his eyes immediately open and his head lifted. Angling his head from side to side until he finally saw what had stomped its way into the territory. What. the. FUCK?! Dafuq was that thing? Cosmin, despite his slightly immobile and frozen legs, gathered to a stand as he stared at the beast. Several predators were already on the move after it, including a tiger that he didn't officially know but should given that they were family. Not that he would realize that without being told.

Eagerly he moves towards them now, suddenly very excited to actually do work. Gravitating to the group and specifically looking to the three yearlings that had popped up. Clearly, they were here to test their own adult skills and this was the perfect way to do that with the hardest animal ever. Hi, he says to @Pyrrha ♔ as he passed them, hello he says to @Sage as he moves on by before planting himself next to the tiger-y creature. Hey. I'm Cosmin. He didn't say it just to @Elodie though and said it loud enough for them all.

Though, he had never been one to leave anyone out and looked to @Io next and gave her a confident but slightly goofy smile. Hi there! Because everyone deserved to be noticed but it was a lot easier to want to befriend others his age than hang around with even more adults than he already did.

Yet again the strawberry warrior was grateful for the thick coat his genetics had gifted him. Summers in Amaryllis weren't typically this cold, right? The chill had the giant beast fluffing up against it, pawsteps stiff as he tried to acclimate. It wasn't unbearable, more so annoying. How were they supposed to enjoy a summer of plentiful prey if the weather remained so dreadful?

Grunting with distaste, Armin would slink along toward the Pit for some well-needed exercise. A bit of rough and tumble would do him well about now. Except...as he approached, it wasn't simply a lion that stood there - oh no, it was a creature of mammoth proportions (see what I did there?).

Balking in surprise, jaws would part and eyes would bug out a bit as he took in the creature. It was thick-furred and much akin to an elephant, only bigger. Cocking his head to the side, he'd notice others present to witness this stroke of luck. They seemed keen on hunting the thing, so Armin simply went along with it as well. Lowering his head and slipping into a pose closer to the ground, the bulky Viking would approach the behemoth with the utmost caution. Excitement lit his gaze, all thoughts of safety flying out the window.

Ah to hell with it, when in Rome!

The snow falls soft

drawing the world down to a whitened hush, forcing us to pause long enough to take stock of everything that we miss in our crazed pursuit to gain everything that we can. One would say she is a woman who wears a gown of winter frost that blinds the eyes.

ten years, no perks

She didn't particularly like coming out to the pit, but there were herbs there that grew nowhere else. So she thought it would be fine so long as she kept an eye on her surroundings and didn't let herself get ambushed like she had that one time. That had been awkward, to say the least.

But, when she came within view of the place, there was already quite a large gathering there, and she wondered if she should just turn around and leave again. Still, it was possible that something was going on she could help with, and so Faelyn pressed on until she spotted the creature everyone was gawking at.

They weren't... actually going to hunt that thing, right?

Okay, apparently they were. Faelyn decided it would be best if she stuck around to help, if only because she had a bad feeling someone was going to get hurt and would therefore need medical assistance. She just had to make sure that someone wasn't her.

To say he was not enjoying the unseasonable cold would be an immense understatement. While he was accustomed to cooler temperatures as a creature of the night, even the days had remained frigid and made sleeping uncomfortable. He'd been up before sundown, and after sunrise, more often than he liked, and had recently taken to exploring in an effort to perhaps burn off a little of that restless frustration.

It was the sound that intrigued him first. Familiar but...old. Elephantine but...not. Then the scent on the wind only increased the mystery.

And by the time he found the source - an impressively massive, hairy, beast - there was already a small crowd gathering. He'd join the group with a hushed, awed, "Incroyable." Incredible.

The desert witch roamed the damned snowy lands of Amaryllis. It was fucking summer-time and it was still as cold as fucking ever. She hated it, and her pregnancy did not help with the situation either. Her sapphire gaze was narrowed with irritation and hormonal rage as she wandered, her swollen belly making it difficult to move.

Her gait was slow and lazy, her tail twitching slightly as she moved. It was then as she passed by the pit she heard the low bellowing, the hair upon her spine rising. Her nose twitched and she would peer over the edge of the pit, looking down. There it fucking was, some cursed hairy creature with giant tusks.
