Xander had followed his brother @Cosmin mostly for the excuse to leave the Hollows and poke his nose into something else that probably wasn't his business. That hadn't deterred him in the past and it wouldn't be putting him off now. Unfortunately, his brother had found himself stretched out in a nap and for a long while, the boy had stood guard in the shadows - just in case. Until the ruckus nearby caused both Savante boys to head over for a further investigation. A fair few steps behind the darker boy, he clearly heard the awe and confusion in Cosmin's voice as he took in the enormous elephant thing. Xander had no words for what it was, and yet there was certainly a competitive edge to the way the others gathered were contemplating it.

His brother, the socialite incarnate, moved towards the other gathered yearlings and Xander was hot on his tail. Clearly hearing the greeting and introduction given to everyone in close proximity, Xander approached with a shit-eating grin on his face as he locked eyes with everyone Cosmin had said hello to. "Hello - hi - hey, how're you doing? That's Cosmin - hey!" His clear mockery of his brother was good natured and he tried to catch Cosmin's eye, to rib him a little more. "And I'm Xander." He finished, plopping himself down on the other side of @Elodie and twitching his whiskers at both @Sage and @Pyrrha ♔ in the meantime. "Shall we take the big bastard down?" He chirped, head cocking over to the enormous creature and the gathered adults who no doubt would be formulating a plan - it was their job afterall.

What in the world was that? The lipard youth couldn't even begin to guess at it. But they weren't the only one interested in the extremely large beast. There was already a gathering of felines around the seemingly trapped beast.

"What is that?" The yearling asked of no one in particular. It was more of a question that was voiced for their own sanity. Maybe Squirrel would know exactly what it was. Yarrow would have to figure out how to ask Squirrel in their dreams though. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

There was an individual that spoke of trying to take down the large creature. Was that wise? Yarrow couldn't say for certain. But a rumbling stomach answered for them. Wise or not, the yearling would be there to help in hopes of taking a portion of the meal back for their sister.

The pit was a familiar sight, the creature that wallowed in it was not. When Reti first heard the booming sound from a little ways off he thought it might be an elephant whose call was being distorted and amplified by the rock.

But after curiosity led him to investigate and his eyes caught the first glimpse of the massive woolly creature it was very, very obvious this was something else entirely. And he, of course, wondered what it would taste like.

Besides this continuing cold was starting to mess with the herds and animals all over the lands, meaning any chance to get a solid amount of food could not be passed up...

Thella had simply been strolling along, not far from the pit, when the deafening boom caused her to jump, the hairs on her back quickly standing straight. What in the world?! She took off, against better judgement, towards the sound and, upon reaching the edge of the pit, almost cried out in fright.

There below her, was the most tremendous beast she had ever seen. Large was an understatement. She gulped, her throat tightening up, before she noticed that there were other lions gathered at one end of the pit, seemingly intent on planning to take it down. Surely, they can't be serious?

Slowly, she made her way down to the others, most strangers but one familiar. As @Cosmin's crimson body drew closer, a smile crept across her face and she greeted him warmly, though still with fear in her eyes at the thought of the beast across the pit. "Hello, Cosmin. I hope you've been well, my friend."

Her gaze drifted back to the mammoth with uncertainty. This would not be easy and she wished for more to come in hopes that, with numbers, it might actually be possible.

There, stretched within the flatlands of Amaryllis, Lorant discovered the distinct arching of a crater in the earth. He flicked his ears forward with interest and hurried his pace across the frozen earth, jumping slightly as thundering steps shook the very ground he trod upon. The spotted cat scaled the outer ring of that arena with wide, searching eyes and gaped slightly at what he saw: something elephant-like, though far grander in every way imaginable. He could not help the way he salivated at the mere sight of it. He did nothing to shoo away decadent thoughts of bathing in pure meat.

When finally he tore his sights from the goliath that must have made that gaping crater with its sheer size, it was in frantic search of something to aid his quest. Lorant licked ebony lips and sprinted off toward the outskirts of the gathering toward a lanky tree on the edges of the action. Shimmying his front paws up its trunk, the tracker attempted to use what force he had to try and topple it onto their gourmet prize.

the pit was not unfamiliar to her. she had spent hours upon days roaming about the battlegrounds and healing the warrior worthy after her immigration to the amaryllis. while imogen had come across the mighty and brave sparring and razing flesh in the pit, this creature was not a challenger she had ever seen here - nor anywhere else. she's stunned, marveled, truly, at the great beast. and while imogen would be content to leave it be, instinct howls within her bowels and urges her to join the forming group of lions. some, she recognizes, and others are empty faces. regardless, she is ready for the challenge and to help fell the strange elephant however she can if it means sating her hunger.

The call sounded like an elephant and curiosity led her from the Bluff's borders to the massive pit she had seen many times before. The snow had been unusual at this time of the year and while she had been having some fun introducing her children to the white flurries, at the same time it had worried her. Though at the sight of the massive beast, Icefang stopped in her tracks. It was unlike anything she had ever seen. Was it a trick of the eyes? Something else to question besides the odd weather? She would of second guessed her ears if it hadn't been for all the other bystanders, gawking at the mammoth. Well, it looked like she would be bringing this home for dinner. Shrugging her shoulders she moves in to stand amongst the group, glancing around to see if she notices anyone familiar.

She had never seen a mammoth before. Elephants, yes – and even those from a reasonable, respectable, and intelligent distance. Rosemary was not a huntress by trade, and while her privileged upbringing allowed her to observe deceased elephants up close, she had never had the inspiration to test herself against a live one. So, she was not entirely certain where the inspiration to make her way into the pit after a mammoth came from. Curiosity, maybe. It was certainly an unusual creature. And maybe, with a crowd already gathered, she felt somewhat more secure in her decision to investigate.

Whatever the reason, she was here now.

The lioness stood on the outskirts of the crowd with a light foot and wary posture. All four ears were folded back into the thick tresses of her mane, Her two-toned eyes were glued to the massive, impossibly hairy creature, her peripheral senses alert and aware of the cats that made up the crowd. She scented the atmosphere, inhaling a deep breath of frigid should-be-summer air, taking in the beast’s unusual scent. It did not smell good – it did not even smell like food, really. Rosemary again questioned her judgement as she eyed the beast; it looked as though it could launch the entire crowd into the wall with a single swipe of its trunk. She slunk lower, her muscles tense with anticipation: although whether she was ready to hunt the beast or flee its wrath, she was not yet certain.

He had heard stories of these great hairy elephants from his father. The land and gods seemed to gift them strange things from time to time. He was couldn’t resist the desire to investigate the growing crowd. So he detoured from his previous task and made his way around the others to see what was going on.

What he found both lived up to the story and completely blew it out of the water. A lion didn’t understand a mammoth until he was faced with one. By Vellen and the gods! The yearling looked on with wide purple and green eyes at the creature. Once he was done gawking (was he though?) he wondered what it would taste like.

His gaze wandered and took in the group. Could this many lions even make a dent? His eyes traveled further upwards to the sky. Megi andarnir leiða lappirnar okkar fyrir farsæla veiði... May the spirits guide our paws for a successful hunt… He offered his blessing to the group quietly.

As if a thing, lulled by the chimera of winters long past slipped through the rift of memory, here it was: the legend of a beast entrapped in the pit. A ruddy platter. A waiting meal. Gauthier knows the distant scent as it lingers on the breeze – fond remembrance despite its tough feat. He stalked to the edges of the crater, dismayed momentarily that his most trusted hunting confidant is not in the hungry ranks. But it would not deter him from the prospect and promise of another delicious slice.

Its meat would be as exotic as the last. Delectable, he cherished the memory of fine notes with the roll of his tongue. And without further delay, he refused to simply linger on the edges like a bewildered beast. He charged at once – intent to dodge those smashing tusks, eager to sink his claws and fangs deep into its wooly hide.
