Quill had gone out with the thoughts of collecting but herbs and food. There had been a couple of recent births within the Hollows and so these new mothers would be in the need of extra food. This thought is what drove them. If he could bring back more food to the pride then maybe the Fair Ones there would accept him. Maybe he could prove himself. Maybe this wouldn't end as it did with his birth pride.

The antlered male was hot on the trail of fresh tracks. Accompanying it was the scent of prey on the wind being brought to him. This was good. It meant he knew the prey was there and the prey wouldn't know about him. Among prey tracks were also the tracks of other felines. This was both good and bad, he needed others to hunt with but he worried over them being Fair Ones and having to give up his entire kill.

Leopards were compact and athletic, flexible and adaptable, but they were no match when set against the pure strength of the larger cats. And in a world governed by lions, a wise creature such as himself might think twice about insinuating himself into one of their hunts. Cyrus, however, found himself willing to gamble when the trail of prints he had been tracking intercepted with the fresh scent of a lion. It was at least enough to give the small cat pause, and dual-tinted eyes flicked up and around as he sought the source – noting in the distance the outline of a lion. His ears flicked forward and back in an atypically restless fashion, before the man continued onward. He veered off the path for a few moments, crouching low and rubbing his cheeks and neck against some of the local flora – hopefully veiling or completely disguising his scent. He would pace forward once more, his dappled hide blending well with the grasses as he fell into an easy crouch, allowing the lion an easy lead while he remained, ideally, almost completely obscured by the grasses. Cyrus was not here to steal the others catch; in fact the opposite was true. The leopard wanted the help of the lion so that they both might profit – but he also did not want him to react negatively to his presence which might potentially disrupt their hunt. The sunset woman had long since been following the trail of what seemed to be a rather decent meal. Something that she was interested in continuing to hone her skills with so that she could better provide for her family in Vermeda. Ranger felt like her calling so she tracked the footprints as they winded down through the valley and turned in every which direction. Occasionally the scent lingered heavily in one area which only proved to throw her off a little but eventually she found her way and continued south. Eventually, the ground was just soft enough that she could begin to make out the footprints even better than before and the scent was getting heavier and thicker.

With each step that she took it became far clearer and easier to detect what it was that she was following. Perhaps it was a lesson on her progress being made as a Ranger but either way she was going to be proactive enough to continue following it. Wishing to put a name on the animal that she was tracking so that she might remember for later what the prints were to match. The scent was overwhelming at best, taunting her as it crossed between trees and a myriad of different plant life. It was hard to match it up with the footprints but it was just as distinct and powerful that it took only a second to be able to discern what she was following now and what was old news.

Idleness does not suit the golden huntress. Excursions away from the Mire have not been uncommon for Myra, but today she has decided to return with something more substantial than simple knowledge. As much as she can appreciate their use as cover, the trees surrounding her new residence are beginning to feel a bit…constricting, for the purposes of the hunt. It is this reason that sent her out to the prairie, the openness more familiar to her. The scent of prey on the wind urged her further onward.

She relied on her nose to trace out the path that she needed to take. She prowled through the grasses at a slow, steady pace, her masked face poking above the stalks periodically to better sample the scent she was pursuing. Not the simplest of tasks, as her elusive prey led her in loops and crisscrossing paths, dragging her over a myriad of flora and older, useless scents. But Myra was nothing if not persistent.

And it seemed that she wasn’t the only one. There were other felines here, proven by their recent tracks. ’Good’. Their presence was an advantage that she would not pass up. So long as she got her share, she would be pleased with this impromptu arrangement.

we slipped into midnight
like the death of the sun

She has ventured from the desert, slipping away from the relentless beat of the sun. This is her reprieve, and a shiver slips through her as her body sinks into the cool of a tree's shade. As she reaches the fall-struck field, she catches a new scent. It is one that awakens a hunger she did not know she harboured. Her head lifts, her lips curling up to better taste the scent of prey upon the wind. it does not take a moment to consider, before her path is swayed and the desert orchid is edging through the field, sea-green eyes waiting for the first sign of prey upon the horizon. Soon there is a gathering of lions following the wilder scents. Her heart stutters with anticipation.

Icefang had found a good patch of mud in the Mire before heading out to the plains. She had rolled around covering her stark white fur and turning her into a dark brown to help conceal her scent. She had done a quick shake to remove any excess and despite a few white patches left on her face she was mostly covered in muck.

It wasn’t long before the scent of prey drove her and as she approached the gathering spot, she was overwhelmed with several other lions. The others had not taken the same precautions as she did, but if the wind remained on their side it wouldn’t matter much anyways. She gives a nod to any who might glance her way before crouching into position, awaiting a signal from whoever was leading the hunt.

He saw fresh tracks, but their scent was obscured by the obnoxious horde of felines following along. Some pride thing? His lips curled. A little bit of sniffing revealed that few if any of these lions were related, at least by pride, and their tracks came from different directions as though they had all been sieved in by chance. The prey seemed to have been traveling together for some time. He wondered what was on the other side of the fields that had their attention. Or maybe they were headed toward a prime water source hidden among the grasses. That would be useful. If this was an impromptu thing... maybe he could slide in a bit, pretend like he'd been invited. He was hungry, anyway. Thin and rangy looking with his freshly adult body, muscles too scraggly for the tanklike proportions of his limbs. He caught up quickly just with a lope. His pace was easy but his neon gaze was vigilant, dark brows quilted with suspicious questions.

Ten years, no perks

He wasn't following Quill by any means, nor was Quill technically following him either. They were just two lions from the same pride who happened to end up in the same place. To be honest, Tobin liked the fields. They were peaceful and beautiful, especially this time of year. Well, maybe today it wasn't so peaceful, judging by the gathering of lions that was occurring.

He rose from where he had been lounging under the shade of some shrubbery and approached the gathering to see if he could be of any use. They were likely hunting, which he wouldn't say he had picked up at his old age, but he would say he had been participating in more frequently. Mostly, he just wanted to back up his pride mate should anything happen. He could always be useful helping to herd their quarry in the proper direction, if nothing else.

It seems she is not the only one who has caught the stench of prey; it’s scent raw with the promise of a feed. Exactly what beast it was remained to be seen, but for Charax the opportunity to hone her skills was always welcomed.

She arrives cautiously, bypassing a singular, massive oak tree that had unfurled its shading branches on the outskirts of the field; it signaled west, the way back home to Wolfbron, and she noted it quietly into her memory.

There were many gathered, and the Wolfbron woman came to linger upon the edges of the formation in wait.

Not all of her time is spent in these fields, to be sure, but Celosia is certainly a common area for the Wolfbron lioness. It's too full of prey to resist, so when in doubt one could surely loiter in the fields if they sought her. Sooner or later she'd be bound to pop up over one of the hills, cloaked in a myriad of flower-scent. Ursula has taken to rolling in the proffered, natural perfumes, dampening the musk of her lion flesh so as not to spook a meal away. Even the softest whiff of predator could send a morsel fleeing to the horizon, especially so out here where the wind isn't so obstructed. Clear, too, is the sky today, with not a single cloud to throw shadows onto the ground, nor even rain to reduce visibility. Her victim's eyes aren't as good as hers', but they're decent enough to spot her dark pelt from a distance. Unfortunate, but not enough to stop her. Nor others, it seems. Finding other lions isn't a surprise, nor is the realization that they too are all hunting. Ursula is used to joining in by now, and does so easily this time just as before. Crouched, she sidles in closer to the group, glancing among them for the first to step forward so that she can follow their lead.
