It started out subtle at first, manifesting with the morning mist that seemed to hang around a little longer and a little denser than usual. It loomed across the valley in a way that could have been shrugged off as a simple shift in the weather — though, unfortunately, as the days wore on it became clear that something far greater, and far more powerful, was at play.
In the dead of night, the bulk of the mist rolled in fervently, steamrolling all in its path and consuming the lands in what could be described as an overtaking. Those present when Amaryllis’ gates first opened may remember something similar, but beware, as this incident seems far more daunting and far less predictable than it was before.
Because this time, the mist is more than just a barrier to the lands. This time it is mischievous, and is causing the disappearance of lions all across Amaryllis, swallowing them up as though they were there one minute and gone the next. Where exactly they’re going, nobody knows — but it is clear that they need to be found, and fast.
To make matters stranger, the arrival of the mist seems to have brought other things with it, as well. New creatures have started to appear, though it is still too early to tell the extent of what that means or what is coming.
Is this Maua’s doing, or something else entirely? Surely the creator would find no joy in such chaos — but what other explanation is there for such a sudden turn of events?
Following our previous teaser, welcome to the official start of our BTW, the Return of the Mist! This BWP will run for the entire month of March, meaning that there is lots of time to get involved and to see what will happen IC!
To signal the beginning of the BWP, several threads will be made by @BWP Events in some of the main territories today, detailing the arrival of the mist. These threads are free for anyone to join, and for characters to learn about what is going on - but you are also free to make your own and be creative!
The mist itself can be described ICly as a sort of barricade - it comes and goes through the territories and is not stagnant, but anyone who is not officially taken by the mist can’t get more than a few feet into it before hitting a sort of wall.
- Lost lions (i.e. those that have been taken by the mist) can also make threads between March 1-7 of them disappearing, if they choose to. This is not mandatory, and up to the individuals to decide.
In addition, throughout the month of March, random mist events will be dropped into all-welcome threads.
- These will come without warning, and by random selection.
- Some of these random events may include trade-related prompts or scenarios to help facilitate plot development and keep things interesting!
- If you have a specific request for a random event, please submit the applicable form in our Random Event Requests thread.
For every BWP-related thread that you complete, you will be able to claim an additional +5 exp towards a trade of your choice.
- This is a bonus and is in addition to your 3 trade tasks per thread.
- The thread must have 10+ with exits, and the main focus of the thread must be centered around the BWP, lost lions, etc., in some capacity.
- To claim this, please add "+5 - BWP-related thread" to your exp forms when posting in maintenance, with the appropriate link.
Lost lions are those who are those falling victim to the mist, and who are an integral part of the plot.
Given the large amount of interest we received for lost lions, we made the decision to implement a cap and a raffle (as noted in the original teaser) to determine which characters will be taken by the mist. This cap was set at 41, and a random draw was conducted from the list of sign-ups.
- This was done in order to ensure that the BWP Team has the ability to keep up with all of the threads, make sure that they have time to get involved themselves, and to ensure that everyone is given the chance to be found.
As a reminder, lost lions must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Won't be able to post until they are found ICly or until the BWP has ended, whichever comes first.
- Can utilize chatlogs to denote their time or experience in the mist, interactions with others in the mist, etc.
- Can respond and post to threads dated before March 1st.
- If they are a leader, becoming lost forfeits their rank. If there is no one able to take over the pride on their behalf, the pride will disband.
- Leaders can use their discretion ICly to address the status of ranked pride members that disappeared from the mist.
In order to find any one lost lion, a total of 2 completed threads are needed.
The first thread needs to be some sort of mist-related thread. It could be finding out that a certain character is missing, seeing them disappear, investigating the mist more generally, etc.
- This thread can be used as a prerequisite for multiple search threads. In other words, completing this thread sets you up for multiple searching threads later on.
- This thread must be exited before moving onto the next thread.
The second thread is where a determined search party will be actively attempting to locate a lost lion. This thread is based on dice rolls, which must meet our success threshold (i.e. cumulative roll over a certain sum) in order for the lion to be found and freed from the mist.
- All participants must have a mist-related thread prior to getting involved in a search thread.
Process for Search Party Threads:
1. Submit the following form as a reply to this thread to begin the search:
Lost Lion: @account (who they’re looking for)
Search Party: who is in the search party?
Mist-Related Thread(s): link to the first thread requirement for participants
2. Your form will then be taken, assessed, and then a search thread will be created on behalf of the search party by the @BWP Events account.
- You will be tagged here and in the thread once it goes up, and the log will be updated appropriately.
- This thread will set the scene, give you instructions, tell you what and how to roll, and how many days you have to reply before the next round starts.
- Follow the instructions given to you!
3. Then, it is time to roleplay out the search thread.
- There are 2 rounds of posting for participants in search threads. Every character will roll [roll*=1d10] during each round (2 rolls each).
- Certain trades will receive boosts to their rolls during search threads. This will come in tandem with random IC scenarios, and will be outlined clearly in the instructions.
- There will be a maximum of 5 days between each round of the search thread. Failure of search party participants to respond within the allotted time with result in them defaulting out of the search.
- In order to successfully find a lost lion the end of the thread, the sum of the participants' rolls must be equal to or greater than 60%.
- Example: If there are 3 participants, they must roll a cumulative sum of 36 throughout the thread to be successful.
- Example: If there are 4 participants, they must roll a cumulative sum of 48 throughout the thread to be successful.
4. Once both rounds of the thread have been completed, @BWP Events will post again with the tallied rolls and official results.
- At this point, a random roll will be conducted by the BWP Team to determine whether the search party found the lion that they were originally looking for, or if they find someone else by chance.
- If successful, the lost lion will be tagged and able to join the thread to write-out being found.
- If unsuccessful, the lost lion will remain lost and another thread will be needed in order to discover them.
Volunteering a character to be lost will automatically earn that character our BWP IC award (to be distributed at the end of March).
Non-lost lions can also earn this award by completing 2 BWP-related threads during the month of March.
- These threads need to be 10+ posts in length, with exits, and the main focus must be on the mist, in some capacity (i.e. investigating it, trying to find lost lions, etc.).
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to a BWP Team or Sr.Staff member! We hope you all enjoy this month’s BWP, and we look forward to seeing what’s going to happen!
