The morning sun broke over the mountains and Hiccup, who had been waiting inside the archway of the Hollow, finally stepped into its shining light. He deliberately avoided looking in the direction of where blood had recently been shed and passed by in uneasy silence. It was only when he was standing in the sunshine that the boy realized he had been holding his breath …

It would take some time before things were back to normal for him but until then, he thought a distraction would help. The yearling headed out across the territory, keeping his eyes open for anything unusual, which didn’t take long. Below his own paws were the fresh tracks of other animals — something had just crossed their borders. There were a good many trails, and some of the tracks were easily identifiable. But what was the most recent animal to have passed through? That would help Hiccup decide which path to follow.

Lowering his head, the cherry-red youth slowly slipped along the trail, gently inhaling the scents that hovered over it. There was one that seemed especially promising, making him turn back towards the Hollow to chuff for those who wished to join him. The pride had seen much success as of late, but there was always the chance for another win, another opportunity to fill their cache — or just their bellies, if they wanted! The thought of breakfast had Hiccup licking his muzzle and his belly rumbling hungrily. The only question was: what were they having?

Six years, no perks

She would always join in a hunt, and she wasn't surprised to hear Hiccup calling for one. At this point she was starting to wonder if they shouldn't offer him the position of Lead Hunter, and allow Avana to be their lead medic. She knew that Roan had considered asking her if she would prefer that at some point.

Faelyn made a mental note to bring it up with her mate later, instead moving to join the other male and scenting the tracks herself. Yes there was definitely something to go after there, she thought. Hopefully they could bring something down and continue to fill their caches. She knew it was only going to get easier now that the warmer months were on the way, but that didn't mean they could become lazy.

1 year no perks

Spring was here, and Toblerone was already outside. The dark tunnels grew stale with familiarity. Outside the wind changed every day. The colossal yearling was half snoozed, half resenting something when she heard the familiar call. That boy sure was useful for picking up snacks. Toblerone yawned, tidied down her pelt where she had nap hair, and sidled toward the Hollow entrance. Yep, there was Hiccup, exasperatingly chipper, and that old lady @Faelyn she kept seeing around. Not too old to hunt. Probably the best age for it. Toblerone would let her be kicked around, if whatever they were hunting had hooves.

She wasn't in the mood to dirty her muzzle with sniffing, so she drifted in the red male's wake hoping he knew where he was going.

Still just as meandering, Juliette wandered close to the group and primarily kept her focus on @Hiccup and the prey he was currently after. She wanted to help but she also didn't wish to be in the way, which was what she felt most often when it came to large gatherings. While not as submissive and shy as she had been during the first hunt, she was certainly coming into her own and doing what she could to keep her head up. To at least appear that she belonged here, especially now knowing that one of her childhood acquaintances apparently lived here within the pride. She'd only seen Kallan once but it gave her a small fraction of hope.

With the warmer weather came more of a reason to be outside. The fresh air was welcomed as the sun warmed the king's fur. Though he had grown fond of his tunnels, there were still times needed to stretch his legs beyond Obsidian. Roan wasn't inside when @Hiccup first called for the pride, but he was at least close enough to catch a faint linger of the call. Hunts were always better the more lions that joined in, leaving the king no hesitation on whether or not he would heed the call.

By the time the masked man reached the red yearling, a small group had already gathered. Surprisingly, their lead huntress wasn't there just yet, but Roan had little doubt that she wouldn't be there soon. The Hodari offered a light smile towards those gathered before moving in alongside his wife. Attention remained on Hiccup, ready to see what was on the menu.

Avana heard the chuffs of Hiccup echoing through the tunnels of Obsidian, but the strawberry lass was right in the middle of prepping some herbs in her den. The maned girl hardly ever missed a hunt, though, so Avana quickly rushed through the rest of the prep before finally leaving her den. With fear of missing out ever present at the forefront of her mind, Avana races through the corridors of the Hollows to reach the small hunting party. The usual suspects came into view as the huntress came to a winded halt. "Sorry, I'm late!" Hopefully she wasn't too late to have missed out on the hunt.

Lotus has been doing a diligent work around the borders, exploring, eyeing for any unwanted quests or anything out of the normal. She slippered through the caves and halls, like the ghost she was. The ghost of obsidian hollow. Eyes narrowed, stoic expression on place but as she walked alone, a call for a hunt echoed across the caves, reaching the woman. She nodded and quick on her slender paws she navigated through the granite floors silent. She found many faces. @Avana and @Roan were the only familiar faces, the others were yet to know better including the boy who called. She hides and prepares for this. Ready or not.

Hiccup, having extended his invitation, lowered his head back to the ground and continued his investigation while he waited. The hooves were cloven-shaped, but the accompanying scent did not belong to the common antelope. He wondered what else could be out there, and as tempted as he was to pursue the creature, he knew he needed to wait for the others.

And they didn’t take long. @Faelyn was the first to arrive, followed by the growing @Toblerone. He smiled at both, and to @Juliette as well when she joined them. The hunting party continued to grow as @Roan came onto the scene, then @Avana and @Lotus. Together, they made quite a formidable hunting party!

“Think I got something,” Hiccup announced with a grin and turned to lead the group along the path he’d picked up. Every so often, the tracks vanished, but he still had the scent to lead him. Soon, their quarry came into view: a wild goat— a male ibex with massive, spiraling horns, grazing on the green buds that now dotted the once dry twigs, courtesy of the spring rain. The youth looked back at his companions and tipped his head at the creature. That was their target.

Taking lead, he lowered himself into a crouched position and slipped onward, using the rocks and twigs as cover to get into position. Quietly, he tiptoed his way around to put himself in front of the animal, to flush it back into waiting teeth and claws. It was a simple maneuver, and a successful one — given the combined strength of the pride, the goat didn’t have much of a chance.

As the goat was captured, Hiccup regrouped with the others to grin. “Anybody hungry?” It was an invitation to stay and eat, rather than take the goat back to the cache. The creature didn’t offer as much meat as an adult zebra, but it would make a nice snack — a little something to hold them all over. They could just pick it clean there rather than drag it home.

All the usual suspects arrived, along with a pair of yearlings that Faelyn actually didn't know. One of them had a gorgeous tiger strip pattern going on that Faelyn adored, though she refrained from saying as much because she didn't want to seem creepy in anyway.

The goat they tracked down had some very interesting horns that she was careful to stay away from, sensing those would be more dangerous than its hooves. Luckily, there were plenty of them to bring it down, and she was more than happy to share a meal with her pridemates. She did want to get to know them all, and not just because she was their queen either.
