CAUGHT THE AIR IN YOUR WOVEN MOUTH

She was feeling much better after her battle with Ishak thanks to Sabine's handy work with healing. Her movement was less restricted and she could sleep without pain. The afternoon had come on faster than she anticipated, the day whisking away with great speed. With the sun only high in the sky for shorter periods of time in the winter, Rivia felt as though she hardly had any time under the light of day.

With her pelt donned, hood heavy over her head, Rivia moved through the rainforest with a casual stroll. A rabbit lay limp in her jaws, swinging with each step she took. She came to a break in the dense trees, a cluster of boulders created a pile worth lounging on. Skillful paws navigated the stones until she came to a flat enough surface to lay with her meal.

having beorn as a permanent houseguest had kept her busy - though her fear for the hyena's leg grew almost daily. calypso was certain it was festering, and knew that the time was coming when she would have to remove the damned thing. that was something she had only seen done once successfully, and the idea of having to do it herself made her ill.

calypso had begun to gather the necessary tools to complete the looming task, and clutched in her jaws were some more broad leaves and some moss and lichen she had travelled north to fetch. it was on her way back to the den that she came across rivia, the scent of a fresh killed meal heavy in the air.

it wasn't as though calypso didn't have access to food, only that she had been busy and distracted and hadn't eaten as she should. the smell pulled her closer and had it been anybody other than a crewmate she might have sought to steal the snack right from between her paws. as it were she offered a quick smile of greeting, setting down her gathered items as she spoke - "ye look better." focusing instead on the healing injuries, even if she was a bit put out that Rivia had refused her help and had gone elsewhere.

Violet eyes met her peachy comrade, lifting her head up with a shake to loosen the hood and let it fall upon her shoulders. Rivia glanced at her own wounds at the mention of their healing and nodded to her. "Thanks," she replied, "Kinda bummed I'm not getting any cool scars out of it." A shrug rolled through her shoulders, chuckling a little dismissively. At least she knew she bested her opponent and that was a decent enough take away.

"That woman really pisses me off," she stated, thinking back to Ishak's attitude towards... everything in life. "I thought I was a bitch." Rivia referred to herself, fully aware that she can have her own moods towards things. Despite that, though, she found that she was becoming pretty apathetic to life as of now. She just couldn't bring herself to care or feel much about anything. Nothing seemed worth it enough. She blamed the rainforest for dampening her spirits.

She sighed and looked to her meal then back to @Calypso. "Want some?" Rivia offered. She wasn't going to finish it anyway. The exercise to catch it was more than enough at the end of the day.

She ducked her head, guilt rearing it’s ugly head again as she thinks am back to Ishak. The woman had not seemed the type to cause such chaos (or is she fooling herself?) and though calypso did not see a fault in seeking a rank she wished things had gone differently.

“ye’ll just have to pick anot’er fight,” she ignores the guilt and adopts a teasing tone, half considering offering a rumble right then and there. The notion of actually permanently marking her company isn’t really appealing, though, and so she swallows the idea and allows the conversation to move on.

As if reading her mind she offers some of the meat, and the peach medic is helpless to stop the quiet rumble of her stomach in answer. She laughs, though, and shrugs her shoulders - “aye, if ye don’ mind.” there was food aplenty in the cache’s, but the freshness of the recent caught snack was too appealing to resist.

The idea of picking another fight was always on the table for the sea witch. A few puffs of air expelled from her nostrils in a sort of soundless chuckle. "You know I'll get into another one sooner or later," she quipped, grabbing her snack with the accepted offer and climbing down from her perch.

With skillful teeth, Rivia tore a leg off of the carcass for herself and slid the rest over to her counterpart. "I don't," she noted with a nod of approval to indulge in her offering, leaning down to chew on her piece. There some silence that she allowed to fall over the two for a moment before she looked back at the ocean druid.

"How's that hyena doing? You seem exhausted." She asked, genuinely curious about it. The injuries seemed to be far greater than anything she had seen or had to assist with. Rivia could see that @Calypso much have been tending to this canine around the clock.

She might have rolled her eyes, except she could hardly blame @Rivia. Fighting was a new thing to Calypso, at least the kind of fighting that she enjoyed. She had learned how to defend herself when she was young, but learning how to scuffle with the pirates had been another thing. And then she had discovered just how much fun it would be.

The meat tossed her way is still warm, and she wastes no time diving in to the snack. Rivia is more than generous and she swallows the food with thanks in mind -- it was a bloody relief to taste something fresh and still bloody.

They eat in silence for a moment or two, and she licks her lips when the question pulls her from the meal. "Not as well as I'd like," she admitted with a faint frown, "her leg.." Her voice trailed off as her gaze lifted to the dark feline, lips twisted with a wry and steely expression. "I will have to remove it."

And now that was out there, and she could not help but physically cringe at the notion.

Rivia's lips curled in a frown when @Calypso answered regarding the status of the hyena in her care. "Damn.." She hummed, finishing up her piece of her snack and lapping at her paws and jowls. There was a minor wince that twisted her expression at the thought of how she would going to navigate a procedure such as that. Though, perhaps it could be easy since the canine was so much smaller than they were.

"I'm sure that can't be easy," she replied quietly, pushing to sit up, "I bet you'll figure it out," Rivia bolstered her, picking up a paw and cleaning it up a bit more. "And I'm here if you need anything."

It was reassuring, even if the words were simple and easily said. To know that there were those that had faith in her even when she did not have it in herself.

"I appreciate d'at," she responded with clear sincerity in her voice. "I jes' hope it works." If she removed the leg and the hyena didn't get any better... well, let's not cross that bridge just yet.

Swallowing the last bites of meat she breathed a contented sigh and flashed her friend a grin. "D'at hit de spot," she breathed, overwhelmed with appreciate for her crewmate. There were few women that she trusted, but @Rivia had rapidly become one of them. "I owe ye."

She gave her a curt nod, leaning inward and scratching at the back of her head with her hind foot. "You don't owe me anything, Calypso," she responded, waving a paw dismissively, "Can't have ya starving to death on my watch," a pause, "or working yourself to the bone." There was a cheeky smirk prying at the edge of her lips. Rivia rose to her feet, turning to the stones behind her and pushing off of her hind legs to hop onto one of the stones. Orienting herself back to look upon @Calypso she craned her head to the side. "Don't you do anything besides work or worry?"

A wry smile twisted her lips, too, clearly not bothered by the teasing tone of the dark woman. "An' fight," she quipped back, though she couldn't help but add "or fuck."

And then she laughed, because the brazen statement would probably seem shockingly out of character to her crewmate who had only known her a short time. It wasn't far from the truth, really, because what more had her time been filled with since coming to Amaryllis?

Mirth sparkled bright in her eyes, clearly feeling a thousand times better with her small meal.
