The youth had a natural sense of direction; a familiarity with the earth that comforted her soul and made her feel at home in almost any surrounding. She need only pass the same turf once to have the quirks of the land begin a thread of memory within her mind. Each step would spin another thread, sew another stitch; and it did so as she walked. Slowly, Amaryllis would become a detailed patchwork quilt that encased her mind. As of now, it was barely a few patterned squares.

Ever-aware, the tabby-marked lioness perched herself atop a wind-smoothed rock. Small, cupped ears swiveling in the direction of a lowly slide amidst a thirsty tuffet of grass. It took a few moments for her dark naires to catch it’s scent; reptile. Athletic haunches planted, orange gaze watching the shuffling vegetation with interest. Snakes in her homeland were nothing like she had seen here. There, they were the thickness of her neck and swallowed lion cubs like spaghetti. But the snakes of these lands had their own sens of danger; though small, her brother had once been bitten by one and taken incredibly ill.

Charax’ mind meandered between that of her lost brother and the tawny snake that lingered before her; it’s body flattened beneath the morning sun, recharging it’s batteries.

[Set after she officially joins the Cove but before the VB challenge - she should have Caladan Cove scent rather than Brook]

These lands weren’t exactly one she’d found herself in before - they were a decent trek from both the Cove and the Brook, so it made sense as to why she’d not gotten the chance to explore them quite yet. But now that she had officially settled into the Cove she figured she might as well explore some of the areas she hadn’t gone to previously. So that was why the yearling had made her way from the Cove over to the Badlands.

The Caladan Princess had been sniffing around the area, searching for the sign of anything around her. Duotoned eyes caught sight of another lion perched on a rock not far from her, and Cassandra started to head in her direction when her ears picked up the sound of a creature moving through the grass. Her gaze flickered to it, studying it for a moment. Unsure as to if it was dangerous or not, she made sure to quietly give it a wide bearth from the direction it was coming from. Better to not take a chance on getting snakebit. That was the last thing the Valour girl needed at this point in time.

Making her way over to the stranger, Cassandra made sure to give her space, not intruding on her bubble of personal space. Last thing she wanted to do was come across as a threat. "“Greetings.”" She said quietly, sitting down so as to not be presumed as a threat - even though she was merely a yearling at the time. Perhaps she could bring someone home to the Cove… invite them to join her mother’s pride if they so desired.

The creature was far from menacing. It bathed beneath the mild morning sun with a near-obliviousness. Truly, Charax was sure the wily creature was entirely aware of her, but it’s choice to remain calmly beneath the warmth of the sky was questionable. Did the cold-blooded creature lack the energy to react, or was it aware of it’s own sting more so than the poorly educated lioness before it? Rogue life kept the chocolate-coated woman almost eternally hungry; her ribs unusually apparent and her instincts always seeking food in unlikely places. She briefly debated if the scaled creature was cold enough to kill easily -- but the train of thought was interrupted by company.

Mildly alarmed despite the teenagers polite greeting, Charax raised to all fours. Truthfully, the disciplined woman was usually far quicker to notice the arrival of companionship than she had been in that moment. Her unease is apparent in her stance; rigid, her ears taut against her skull. A quick glance around the perimeter reveals the young lioness is alone - or at least appears to be. “Hello,” it is not a greeting of welcome, and in fact the yearling might sense a degree of awkwardness to the air following the elder woman’s startle. The earthy-hued youngster smelt of pridelands, and her obvious health only reinforced such an observation. “Are you alone?” to somebody with better social skills it might have been considered too eerie a question to ask.

It would appear that she had surprised the older lioness with her approach, even though she’d not meant to sneak up on her in any way. A quick scenting of the air and a once-over of the other’s frame would confirm Cassandra’s suspicions that she was a rogue lioness, since it was uncommon for a pride lion to be that underfed unless they had some health reason. The other woman’s while stance would tense up, becoming rigid with her ears pushed back against her skull. "“Apologies for having startled you… I didn’t realize you hadn’t seen me approach.”" The Valour yearling said, flicking an ear as she spoke.

The voice of the other would seem awkward in her greeting in return, and she could tell that she wasn’t exactly happen to have company. If the other lioness was truly that unhappy with her presence, she was fine with leaving. There was no reason to impose herself on another that didn’t wish for company. However - the next words to leave the stranger’s mouth would cause Cassandra to tense up slightly herself. Why did she wish to know if she was alone? Was she planning something if the yearling truly was alone. Best to be strategic in her answer. "“I’m never truly alone. My mother is always within earshot.”" Cassandra said, her answer intentionally vague as she spoke. She knew how to raise her voice loud enough for Morrigan to hear her cries if need be.

And in a more spiritual way of thinking, Maua was always around. Even if you couldn’t physically see or feel the deity, they were always lingering. Always watching over those who inhabited their lands, and protecting them to the best of their ability.

She is an oddly polite youngster; her dark face soft and unimposing. Kindness and openness was not something Charax was particularly used to, and it's foreignness only seemed to brood her tension. The lioness' weight would shift to her hinds, almost as if preparing herself to move quickly. Suddenly the snake seemed of much less interest as the clay woman swiveled her head to check the surroundings once again. The teenagers response to her question was suspiciously hazy. Distrusting (a trait ever apparent in that moment), Charax almost expected some sort of an ambush. It took a few uneasy moments for the lady to remind herself she was far from her old life, though the impact it had had upon her character was still as close as ever.

She eased, if just slightly, "Where are you from?" If she was to remain within these lands it was high time she learnt of the pride lands and those who kept them. On another train of thought it seemed her reptile subject was gone. Charax pivoted, attempting to spot the tawny creature. Alas with no success. "There was a snake here, did you see where it went?" in all honesty the rogue woman was entirely unsure if the pair should be concerned.
