She’d done it dozens of times. A big enough rock or stick and a well timed drop on the head was often more than enough. Never had she come close to a bite from the fanged creature. How was she to expect this time to be any different? “Fine ye big wimp,” it was all fun and games as she teased him back, hurrying in her scan before the creature could escape. There was no rock but a sizeable (and heavy) branch lay nearby. Calypso grasped the chunk of wood in her teeth and moved towards the front of the snake, keeping her distance while planning her attack. A “watch-and-see” look was tossed towards @Leviathan before she lobbed the log carefully towards the slithering creature. At first she thinks it was a perfect attack. From her angle she cannot see the head and while the body still writhed (pinned by the log) she fully believed it was merely the death of the nerves. And it was. The only problem - which she discovered when she moved around the front of the log - was that she had pinned the creature too far down the body. Enough of the snake was left uncovered that it was able to strike her poorly placed paw - sinking its teeth in near her ankle. The pain doesn’t register at first, though she instinctively pulled her leg back, and she blinked down at the two beads of blood that welled to the surface. “Oh…” Almost in slow motion she looked up at Levi, faintly aware that the snake had fallen still at last. “well shit.” And then the pain hit and a whine rose in her throat.

The brute rocks back on his ankles wearily, squinted eyes watching the serpent as she draws closer with her chosen weapon. She looks back up at him, as though ensuring he was watching her perform this mundane task. He was watching; he couldn't look away.

With a loud thump! the wood appears to find its mark and the creature squirms in silent agony as it enters its death throes. His eyes flick to hers as she round the log, and from his angle, Levi doesn't see the serpent bite @Calypso. Yet, the sudden change in her expression followed by the low whine coming from her throat has adrenaline immediately coursing through his system.

"Blast it ye STUPID girl!" He bellows loudly, racing towards her to push her away from the serpent as though it might bite her again. He looks angry - he is angry! He liked this stupid girl. "How ye managed to live te see yer second-year a' mystery teh me. Let's go, before ye can't see yer third." He begins in a biting tone, perhaps truthfully believing she was a second year. Then, he starts to usher her away towards the rainforest, knowing her best chance at this point was with her pride and with her belongings.

Maybe he would think it was funny that she was already three. Maybe he thought her a fool for her actions -- she could hardly blame him. Calypso had killed many snakes, though, and her only downfall this time was her own cockiness. And, perhaps, some small need to prove herself to the man who had known her crew longer than she.

The pain was intense and she knew that she was in trouble. They were a healthy walk from their home, and mentally she made a quick checklist of what herbs she had in her den. Would she have what they needed? Would she stay awake long enough to tell them?

There was no time to waste, she could feel the swelling already, and she did not even bother to respond to the male. With a quick duck of her head she tugged the damned serpent out from beneath the log, relieved that it was as dead as she had expected, and hurried in the direction of Firnen with the pirate by her side.

There is a quiet panic in her eyes and that scares Levi even more. She stops for a long enough moment to grab the snake and is off with him. For as long as she is able to, Levi encourages her to run ith hurried steps, and as she slows due to her pain Levi would all but drag her behind him as they made a beeline to Firnen. It was wrong to be fleeing inland, but with the crew and in a pride, she stood a fighting chance.

Calhoun was going to be furious, probably.
