Had he won she might have started to wonder what sort of deals he had carved in the dark. Nut still, the ebon lady held a personal friendship with the pale lion and his mate, @Circe. She wasn't going to let them hang. So she stalked a few feet away, @Morrigan's words in her ears as her jaws parted and she let her voice ring across the island. A bit much, perhaps..but it would likely bring some allies of the Bluffs from their hiding holes.. to realize something had gone wrong. She settled her defenses in a practiced manner before she waited. @Vermier may have a lot to defend with his own claws.. as the last time, he had had an entire pride to back his laws. Unless he recruited within moments of his win -something she hadn't wouldn't because timelines stuck around for... jewel knew that he would have much to answer for. The dark lady rested in a precarious position in his conception of the world. Vermier had other priorities more interesting than the state of the Cove. He supposed he would find out whether she acted out of her own will or whether she was a vessel for greater powers, another puppet spreading out from the Lagoon. Or perhaps he would not. He had little interest in reconstructing the pieces of a broken vase.

He didn't know who she challenged for. This was unimportant. War existed and he beckoned to its call, careening in a charge aimed at approaching her blind left side. He attempted to barrel the weight of his chest into the outside of her left shoulder while his muzzle attempted to clamp within her left cheek. His right paw, belatedly, attempted to lash out horizontally to try to swipe along her soft abdomen. Already he exhaled in anticipation of potential impact. He felt his chest clench just from the breath. Most of his damage from the pride challenge had been bruising, or swipes across unimportant surfaces. He had no particular place to blame for his weariness. He felt amped, doozy, almost dehydrated - but as though he had consumed too much, experienced too much, rather than suffered from lack. His ears glued backward as though they were not capable of being anywhere else. The narrowing of his eyes seemed to be separate from himself. His anger seemed to come from another place.

She saw him, and parted her jaws in a silent snarl. His pride had stolen a child of the Cove.. she had failed that fight but wouldn't fail this one. Jewel attempted to brace herself for impact, the bruising across her left shoulder blossoming easily. Her jaws would part as she attempted to sink her fangs into his right jaw, as his fangs scored gashes across her left cheek.

The claws bit into her hide and she felt not for the first time the rush of adrenaline. Defenses remained in place as the dark woman attempted to life her left forelimb and try to rake talons across his chest, as his right leg had lifted to claw her left side. She would flatten her ears and try to maintain her balance with her tails. She could only hope that circe would take her children and leave in this dust up.

Unfortunately she spotted him. Maybe he should have gone for reverse psychology. But that would involve taking more time to position himself to go for her sighted side, and waiting did not please Vermier, nor did deliberately forgoing an advantage. She had been ready for him. He would take this as a compliment, however. She had expected him to show. No coward were the Dieudonné and he knew her experience with them would not have led her to a wrong conclusion.

Recoil reverberated against his chest as it slammed into her left shoulder. Despite his exhaled lungs, his chest cavity burned, internal workings proclaiming their indignity against weighty forms of combat. Shut up, body! Some more bruises wouldn't hurt. His fangs slashed across her left cheek, blood their only reward. In turn she chomped two deep lacerations upon the bony ridge of his right jawbone and he felt the blood and the new wounds, weakness and weariness tentatively asserting himself despite his effort to ignore them. Vermier growled and lowered his head (relief... lower your head and sleep) and forced himself, despite traitor tiredness, to attempt to bite into the underside of the neck, its long dark and seductive curve. He kept his ears back and his eyes narrowed, his tail strung out for balance, hindquarters dipping as her paw cut sideways against his chest, leaving light lacerations that were mostly caused by fur ripping away. His right paw now tried to strike back toward himself, attempted to cut along the outside of her left elbow.

His jaws sank into her neck, fixing into muscle, but she attempted to shift, trying to keep his questing fangs from her jugular and trachea. The ebony female let the snarl rise up, bubble between bloodstained teeth as she tried to return her left limb to the ground, feeling the lacerations across her ebony fur. Jewel adjusted her balance, attempting to keep from being knocked astray, her ears remaining pinned tightly to her skull. Tails were out for balance, and she made sure to try to keep her bodice lower.. though she knew her mate might take offense to the rather large wound she now sported in thr base of her neck, just above where muscle joined with her chest. Jewel attempted to jerk her left shoulder into her opponent, the position was awkward, but she tried to time it with the return of her limb to the ground, attempting to shove him away, to get some breathing room. He heard it.

Despite his defeat, despite the wounds that littered his body, Zoticus heard the challenge summoned forth. @Jewel . Relief flooded his veins with the thought of his family being free- should she win Zoticus would be in debt to her, gladly so. He neared to see the challenge play out, weakly standing among the sideline with a hopefulness in his gaze. Jewel could do this. She was a strong woman- was a strong leader. She could get the freedom of his family, Zoticus was sure of it. Acidic eyes watch the fight and he can’t help but to feel shame for being in this position- but it was all he felt. Though there was satisfaction at knowing Vermier didn’t get off easy on taking Wolfbron

Finally! He achieved success. On the edge of sleep, fortune rushed in where control threatened to abandon him. He growled throatily, enjoying the neck muscle within his grasp, knowing this by itself was not a game-winning move because her neck-tube-things were still further yet this was a definite advantage just the same. She moved more carefully now, herself cognizant of the danger. His right paw returned to soil after he felt some success under its claws. He kept all four paws grounded, claws digging for traction, and attempted to jerk his jaw grip downward to try to bring her down. He felt the shift of her left shoulder jar bruising into his jaws, shaking against his exposed gumline and creating abrasions where the sensitive flesh scraped defenseless against her fur. Damn Jewel. Take a spa day.

He jerked downward and she knew that there would be yet another scar added to the repertoire upon her hide. Jewel attempted to brace herself as she tried to rip her neck from his grasp, knowing well that it would tear muscle and flesh alike. Everything happened at once. Her heart beat loud in her ears and her breath silently held- up until the point she heard the call of victory.

And it wasn't for her husband, not this time. Their fortune could only go so far, couldn't it?

Her heart sank until it felt it could fall right out of her chest, her legs felt like collapsing beneath her with her worst fear becoming reality. But she couldn't fall now- not for the weakness in her from her troublesome birth nor from the gravity coming crashing down upon her. Her newborn children's cries overcame the loudness of her own heartbeat.

Sucking in a shuddered breath and fighting back tears from the wave of emotion overcoming her, she turned around to them- but there was a hesitance. She couldn't carry them all- how was she going to get them all out? Before Vermeir found them, and either held them here or enacted an unspeakable revenge. She wasn't sure what he would do, but she was in no position as a new mother in her weakened state to take any sort of chance. It was only here, now- after the wars and the threats to the family she had built, the family she had come to care about far more than the pride itself as an entity- her realization had come full circle.

A realization that only added to the emotion that began to pour from her eyes, mingling with the panic as she picked one cub up before hesitating and putting them down once more- trying quickly to calculate an escape but fumbling- and cursing herself for it.

But then, there was a glimmer of hope. And more importantly, borrowed time.

Jewel. Her friend, the former leader of Caladan was calling to challenge Vermeir- for her. The wave of hope and happiness she felt for someone being there for her in this terrible moment was only dampened by the remembrance of just how dangerous her predicament was. Hesitantly, even desperately, she let out a call for whatever pieces of her and Zoticus' Wolfbron remained.

She was going to do anything to get her children out, and once they were assuredly safe- she would return for her former members. She had to, after all they had done in her stead, after all the trust and faith they'd put in her. If the new king let them leave- good, but if not... She'd lay herself down for their freedom. As Jewel was doing for her now.

Alma was quick to come to the scene still late for when the fight was already on it's peak. She didnt knew nearly no one present, only @Zoticus. But either way she already knew who she was to support, to fight for if it was needed from her. Ears flat as she eyed everyone. She was quick to go to stay close, there to be ready to help them out aswell. @Vermier was going to pay and she hoped @Jewel who she didnt know would give him what he and his ugly ass deserved here and now. Sitting still for now she watched and looked out for any incoming danger.
