"Hey,"
She nodded to his answer. She just had to keep it a secret long enough for them to understand and keep it a secret to. Zinnia didn’t fully understand why it had to be a secret that he was so old, that he had been turned into a tree and that he had been reborn as a lion again. She thought it really cool, but if others thought the way Miaran did…she could see why he wanted it to be a secret.
When he spoke of the tree, she listened with rapt attention, a look of sadness in her eyes when he mentioned the land had become sick. Of course, the youth wanted to know how the land had gotten sick in the first place…it was land but she didn’t want to interrupt him (again). She tipped her head to the side when he mentioned he never saw the tree again. "It didn’t die?" She asked, wondering if he had moved on to Reti’s body when the tree had died…or if his soul had just…left the tree.
When Reti burst out laughing, she laughed as well, only for it to be stopped at his hiss of pain. Yellow gaze looked him over, just to make sure that he was still ok. "No laughing." She ordered, though she couldn’t help but grin as she said it. The girl listened as he continued on, chuckling but not full on laughing this time, a fleeting nod of approval given as she noticed he didn’t wince or hiss in pain. He had seen and learned many things, but he had still tried to kill Miaran and failed. She wasn’t sure what to make of that.
When he described Hunter, she listened with interest, finding it fascinating that he remembered what he looked like and that his previous form had bled into his current one. "That’s so cool!"She squealed softly. "If you come back again…do you think you will look the same?" At what point would he become a new canvas? Would he even be allowed to come back again?
He nodded to her question about remembering becoming a spirit, but he did not elaborate. Her jaws parted, breathing in to ask a question but then she would stop and frown as her jaws clicked shut. There was probably a reason he didn’t go on. Instead she simply nodded, despite the itch to word vomit all of her questions. Reti chose to continue on about Miaran and Zinnia listened intently. Her nose wrinkled at the mention of others siding with the crazed queen for what they could get from the alliance. Others would because they liked violence and chaos.
The yearling would grin at the idea of sparring with Reti once he was better, it would help them both he said. She nodded eagerly. "When you’re better." She promised. They would spar and help him get better and he could teach her some cool moves that he learned over his twenty-five years of living.
Then he yawned and her grin faded to an amused smile. The herbs were starting to kick in. Zinnia frowned, however, as he continued, telling her that he needed her close to home to watch her siblings…that wasn’t the real reason. What if Miaran caught her lone while traveling? Zinnia snorted, expression twisting into a defiant pout. "It’s not the first time I’ve been hunted Reti." She pointed out sharply, perhaps too sharply, before she sighed with exasperation. "I can do it. I know how to stay safe." She tried to assure him, but she could tell from his expression, he wouldn’t give in. Sure, she didn’t have the skills to fight…but she could run. She was good at running. She’d evaded her family’s killers and she had been a baby then!
A low, tantrum-esque growl rumbled in her throat as he promised to have her help him once he was healed. Ears fell back against her skull, but she grudgingly mumbled, "fine." The young healer could tell he was getting tired, that he was losing the battle he was fighting with sleep and she knew he needed the rest. When he spoke, she had started to cut him off, but she paused. Reti was old, he was wise. She should listen to him. Huffing softly, she nodded to his warning of making new friends, some were cruel just beneath the surface. "Ok, I’ll be careful." She promised. Forcing a small smile.
"You should rest, old man. I’ll bring fresh herbs when you wake and will make sure my brothers and sisters are taken care of." She tried to joke with him, but it was hard. She was tired of being seen as a child ( even though she obviously still was a child). After a few moments, to make sure he was actually going to go to sleep, she would leave the den to go and collect more of the herbs she had given him for when he woke up and...to go do what he told her not to do.
