He was left in a regretful silence, beginning to worry for his mate. What once was an understanding of her need to be busy and be adventurous, was starting to become a mopey sense of loss. Would she return?

So, he is thankful for the scent that carries onwards from Celosia Fields; ripe and warm with the possibility of a full belly. With a hefty groan Violarum flopped from spine to belly and finally to his limbs, and looked back towards the central pridelands with a beckoning chuff.

Orson had been lounging nearby, sprawled out on his side in the tall grass. An ear would flick at the King's beckon and he would rise, hauling his massive form up on long legs and trotting over to join Violarum. Jaws would part, his nose crinkling in a slight grimace as he too scented the prey, his pulse quickening with the prospect of a hunt. The newly re-established pride had yet to rebuild their cache, which meant that they were living hunt to hunt at this point.

With any luck, they would pull down something big.

Anniston Frei trailed through the moonlit grasses of Lorien with her head tucked low, eyes narrowed and a smirk etched upon her muzzle as she walked. She could smell her father nearby and she was already making a trotting pursuit when he let out a chuffing summons. Had she been discovered? The heiress glanced around her with uncertainty, expecting Violarum to whirl around or do something, until she spotted a specific giant approaching him.

Forgetting her stalking game, she marked a diligent trail through the plains and attempted to approach Orson's other side with a mischievous bump of her shoulder. Tall, dark, and handsome covered it pretty well – more so every day.

she creeps under the guise of night: dark-toned flesh emulsified in midnight shadows, vastly strewn across the plains. there is a calculated manner in the placement of each footfall as she heeds his late-night summons, hyper-vigilant with senses trained upon a target she could not yet see beyond the tall grasses. but she is quick to locate the distant gathering of peers along the outskirts of the field, offering a curt nod to @Violarum in wordless communication of her readiness. they needed this win — if only to reestablish the close-knit bonds of lorien with a cooperative task, well-executed. and she needed this win — if only to prove to herself that she were still capable of success after the continuous failures she’d encountered during anni’s imprisonment.

Unlike others, Violarum wouldn't summon a midnight hunt just for shits and giggles. Aurochs expected he had already found something, and arrived only half disappointed. The scent of prey from the Fields was ripe on the air... the exact nature and number of their quarry, however, was still a couple landmarks away. The others were happy to sniff nose to ground. Aurochs, being taller (and manlier, and most handsome) deigned to lift his skull and trace nose and whiskers along the highest air he could reach. He twisted his chin and the stars whirled faster. "Probably bedded down on the far side of a hill," he noted. "At this time of year the low meadows will get chilly." Not at all speaking from experience. Except maybe.

She stiffened somewhat at her other pet's arrival. Anniston studied her for a few moments, taking for granted that the shadow of night would disguise her lack of subtlety. Look who's hunting now, she might have said. Weird, you do know how. Ultimately, it was only indecision at which quip to pull out that had her staying her tongue until the time for the hunt had already arrived.

She braced herself in a crouch, studying the scene for their target with all the precision of a predator. There in the grasses lurked more than one hare, their scent earthy and warm on the breeze with their rapidly beating hearts. Suddenly, they leaped from the fields and began skittering away from the hunter's pursuit, only for them to freeze as if on a dime. Anniston blinked and craned her neck to try and make sense of it; there they gawked openly at Olive, eyes beady and transfixed. Those proved to be their last moments.

"How.... how did you do that?" Anniston questioned between panting breaths, face furrowed in thinly veiled bewilderment.

Where had that been when she was shackled?

It was much to Orson's disappointment when the hunting party happened upon two hares, grazing warily. Crouched beside Anniston, Orson crinkled his nose in a grimace of disappointment. He had been hoping for something bigger to chase and sink his claws into. When the hares broke, sensing the hunters' presence, Orson only half heartedly broke cover. He loped towards the target, but without enthusiasm and he lagged behind. If one of the speedy little mammal's doubled back and made a break towards him, perhaps he'd grab it. But he would never had the chance, because it seemed that @Olive had taken both targets out swiftly.

Orson pulled to a stop, then stood there surveying the scene with his tail flicking about in irritation. Admittedly, he was impressed. But two little bunnies weren't a enough for the pride. They were hardly enough for even one lion. "We'll need more than that if we're ever gonna fill our cache." Orson said, speaking mostly to @Anniston to whom he stood closest.

she is a sprite amongst the many behemoths of lorien, and it serves to her benefit upon the open range — and against a target, so flighty. but even she is bewildered by her own finesse as both hares fall victim to the guillotine snap! of her jaws, releasing pained shrieks into the dead of night as applied pressure snuffs the life from their very veins. and though the limp hang of their bodies testify of her own success, their corpses are only but minor consolations for a growing pride of gluttonous couch-potatoes.

clenched teeth relinquish her prize as she nears the center of the hunting party, inviting her peers to take their piece while she intentionally foregoes her share of the kill. and though she’d long since understood the splendors that accompany queendom, olive refrains from indulgence as @Anniston twists the knife with biting words, meant to guilt for previous failures. “bunnies, elephants… what’s the difference, really?” she snarks in return, tones cool with the challenge she offers. a shit-eating smirk curls bloodied lips before she collapses in the dirt besides the snubbed heiress, rolling upon her spine to the sound of torn flesh and sinew in her peripherals. “should get us through the next... mm.. ten minutes?” she agrees with @Orson between yawns, content to nap in the meantime.

Olive offered no real explanation for her sneaky tricks, sending Anniston's ears flattening back against her crown. Fine, keep your secrets. She flared the pink leather of her nose as the lioness flopped over beside her, gazing down at lidded ruby for only a moment before Orson voiced more practical matters.

"We'll need more than that if we're ever gonna fill our cache."

"Think a giant, purple guy would do the trick?" She questioned with a crimped smirk. Attempting to knock her shoulder playfully into his, Anniston turned to leave that napping Olive, marking a fresh trail in the grasses as she went.
