He runs across the flat rocky surface, the red melting of horizon tinging his ivory coat slightly crimson. The air is thin here, and he can feel his body working overtime as he goes. Launching himself off powerful hind legs, he clears a twisted branch in his way before noticing a large assembly of lions. Viggo starts towards the crowd in an easy and cumbersome saunter, still breathless. One girl around his age proposes a hunting tactic while another shoots her down.

The bickering warrants a small scoff from him, but he's not here to socialize. Claws unsheathe and patiently drag across a proximate tree, his attention trained on the brown man who brought them all here.

Sharpening her hunting skills was always something Leilani enjoyed. She had been stalking around the grove when she heard a chuff calling toward any lion nearby who wished to join in on a hunt, and from the sound of it it seemed it would be a lion she had hunted with before. Abyss body moves stealthily toward where the call had come from, pink eyes soon landing on several lions already gathered. She listens to some speak but keeps silent, instead allowing for her nose to sniff the air and wonder what they were going to be blessed with today to both hunt and eat - and hopefully enough for them all.

An elephant calf ended up being what was on the menu, or such was what the scent trail ended up leading to. Now the question was whether or not the calf would end up in their bellies. They should have numbers enough to manage it but stranger things have happened before.

The male jumped in where he could once the hunt was underway. He was eager to get a taste of the youthful flesh. And it would seem that he would get his wish when the young elephant fell and its life was extinguished from the combined efforts of the group.

The Ranger took a hunk of meat from the soft belly of the animal and slipped away into the surrounding brush to enjoy his meal.

the elephant calf is not hard to spot as it tramples through the thicket and all of the vines and thorns that she had maneuvered about herself. nervously, imogen looks around, expecting the mother elephant to burst from the brush at any moment - but she never does. at the beckon of the hunt's lead, imogen leaps from the foliage and sets on bringing down the calf. despite its youth, the pachyderm is still large and puts up a fight. however, its brought down and the grove falls silent. imogen slips in and grabs a chunk of meat from its belly, enough to sate her hunger and disappears into the cover of the surrounding greenery.

As a scent drifted nearer to them, the group stalked forward, using the thick vegetation as their cover. It soon would become apparent what creature had wandered its way here - and once he laid his eyes upon it, he'd realize why.

It was a baby elephant, and he had no idea how it managed to get itself stuck in this area of the forest, but he did have an idea about how it would die here. Its wrinkly hide was scratched up from the trees and branches here, and even as it struggled to escape the lions closing in, it would find that it couldn't so easily squeeze through the thicket and the bramble.

Even with his scent expertly covered, he supposed it wouldn't matter too much here. The creature would see death coming before its swift embrace. It died quickly, though, and he was happy for that. Something in his cold heart bled when he had to pounce upon young animals and tear them apart for a meal.

Heh, what was he saying?

Poltergeist moved in to take his chunk of flesh before he departed from the area entirely, slipping through the tight foliage with ease. He soon forgot all about feeling bad for his prey and was chowing down in no time. /exit

Truthfully, Valaine saw no benefit in laying out traps when there were a good number of them here already. She might’ve noted her sister among the bodies gathered had she bothered to look at the rest of the group... but she was only here to hunt, not socialize. So, @Viveka blended right in with those she assumed to be strangers.

She followed the party as they began to stalk forward, and Valaine, too, tried her best to blend with what clung to the thicket’s floor. Careful steps allowed her the silence she aimed for, while pristine positioning enabled her to remain downwind.

The stalking lions would eventually find their prey at the edge of the bramble - an elephant calf. Strange... to find it in such a place, but Valaine wasn’t about to question it. She wanted to eat, so she followed suit with the group and the creature - trapped as it was - was brought down quickly. It wasn’t so big to provide a hearty meal to all of them, but Valaine had come for a snack, and she’d make sure she’d at least leave with one.

“Goo’t huntink,” she praised them (no one in particular) before bending to tear away her pound of flesh. Once she was satisfied with the piece she had, she trotted off with it, seeking to eat alone and in peace. /exit

He watches as they filter in, noticin' some of them and others unknown. He was about to answer the younger lioness' question when another chimed in, his ears flickin' backward slightly. "Both are good ideas," he chimes in, golden eyes flickerin' between the two of them. His attention is stolen away when he catches sight of the elephant calf, lips turnin' upward in a satisfied grin. He waits until it's time then lunges forward, keepin' the calf from escapin' while another lands the killin' blow. It was a big meal, more than enough for all of them, and after he digs in and fills his belly the cowboy decides to find a quiet place to rest and allow for his stomach to settle and digest.

The girl's idea has barely hung in the air for more than a few moments when the voice of a woman Maven hadn't noticed before cut in abruptly, tones made harsh and gruff by a strange accent. The dismissive words bring a hot flush to Maven's cheeks, a stutter upon her tongue. "I-It was just a thought." She protests, maybe a little petulantly. The dun male, at least, isn't so quick to brush her off, and she lets out a quiet 'hmph,' resolving to at least try it out, tying the vines between the trees more firmly.

Sadly, however, there isn't much that can trip up an elephant. Even a calf. The vines snap beneath its stomping feet, and they are left to work with claws and teeth indeed. Even so, Valaine better not be holding her breath for a 'you were right,' Maven thinks with a sniff.

Once she'd re-collected herself in the aftermath, the abyssal girl would tear away a decent sampling of the meat for herself before quietly slipping away to enjoy her peace, brushing past the ragged vines a little bit apologetically. Such damage...but she expects the thicket will recover, crimson eyes raising to study the overgrown canopy once more.

The wait is always the most boring part. More and more felines emerge from the thicket's verdant depths, though Viveka doesn't pay the individuals much mind, gilded eyes focused on peering through the shadows and leaf litter for any signs of what creature may have pushed past the dense undergrowth.

At least until a familiarly accented voice drew her attention. The Rike huntress is hardly the type to squeal and run for a hug whenever she sees her sister out and about, but a devilish smirk tugs at her lips nevertheless, bicolored eyes gleaming with cruel mirth at how that silly little girl puffs up and sputters beneath the obvious truth of Valaine's words.

For in the end, it is brute strength and sharp talons that brings the young elephant to its knees. She can't imagine how the beast had found its way in here, but it certainly wouldn't be finding its way back out now.

@Valaine offers generous praise - though not specifically to her, Viveka notes with a huff, neck arching haughtily. Once she'd taken the time to wrench her own (slightly over-sized) portion from the carcass, she would trot after the other Rike woman, tail sweeping sharply behind her.

Perhaps her sister was due for a reminder about precisely how Viveka felt about being ignored.
