As time was drawing near to her children's first month of life, Talisa had begun hunting a lot more. Not only for them, of course, but for the pride; it was simply her young, large and starving children that needed a lot more sustenance than she was used to. Pretty soon they would be trying to track down anything they wanted to pounce, play with or eat but for now she was one of their primary sources of food. That meant checking on the cache and wandered by and saw that they had eaten the last of the freshest meat (i.e. nothing in the cache smelled quite right), Talisa had to make a necessary hunt. Lingering for just a second to quantify how long before the last prey in the cache would be good for before heading out. Calling for any of her pride mates to come help her and hoping that she could rally them as swiftly and with as much strength as Morrigan could.

8 years, no trade bonus, pride tier 5 While Morrigan was certainly still the one in worse shape between the two of them, the barbarian Queen still fretted over her wife. It had by far been the most difficult pregnancy Morrigan had witnessed of her wife, no doubt helped by the number and size of the children Maua and her spouses had blessed her with. And so she followed behind as @Talisa seemed to be intent on a hunt, happy to be of assistance in her limited range of hunting skills as she was. No doubt others would arrive with better help and talents than she anyway. No matter how difficult things had felt, especially as the cubs grew nearer to leaving the den every day and Morrigan had still not been able to speak, at least there was the ever present bright spot of their love, complicated, but strong like woven together threads, made stronger by everyone they added into its midst.

Parvati happened to be nearly when an unusual but not unknown voice summoned. They knew the call for a hunt well enough and wished to attend, not to witness the slaughter but simply because the risk of injury had them worried and Parvati could not resist the impulse to watch whatever horrors arose with their own eyes. Green gaze lowered, held steady and shy. Parvati didn't like the smell of both of them. Injury and children, a difficult birth. If Parvati had been there, would they have made it worse? They looked with a flitting, gossamer gaze, and squinted aside once they came to a nearby stop. "S-saw some goats earlier. I think. Moving up on the ridge... it was hard to see... too sunny this morning. Snowblind." Maybe the goats were already gone... maybe they should have said nothing at all. Their worries switched to this subject as they stared at their paws.

Ghyslaine had promised to not be useless- to just be here and not participate in the pride's livelihood was not something she could do. She had been meandering about when she caught the gathering scents of the small group- Talisa, Morrigan and another she did not know, and when she approached- she could see that they appeared to be readying for a hunt. As she approached them, she would let out a soft chuff of greeting, and then take up a position alongside them- looking for whatever prey they would be going after today. One thing, Ghyslaine had missed in the last few months... was hunting, and aside from hunting with the Lagoon while she was a prisoner there... well, she hadn't gotten to do anything.

She hears @Talisa's call while on patrol, body stopped mid step as skull turned in the direction it had come from. It wasn't a call of distress or anger, which settled the Heiress' nerves, and when she realized it was instead a call for a hunting party to gather she wouldn't waste any time to join. The wildcat moved swiftly over the snow covered mountain, slipping over smaller rocks and keeping herself privy to where she stepped. Mismatched eyes would soon land upon the few that had gathered, moving toward @Morrigan and Talisa but not before nodding to @Parvati and @Ghyslaine. She crouched low, keeping herself close to the ground as she could, nose sniffing the air to see if she could find the scent trail of their possible prey.

Not one but two Oryx came into view not too long after she had joined. Isla's eyes would glance over toward the others before rocking back and forth on her haunches a couple of times to ready herself. She would explode forward then, moving at full speed across the snow and heading directly toward one of the Oryx. Once close enough, the wildcat would snarl while leaping toward their prey, forelimbs outstretched to wrap around the antelope species. Claws hook into its flesh and with the impact of her hit, both predator and prey would go tumbling. She would hold on with ferocity as they went, and as they finally came to a halt the Heiress would make her move - bite down hard on the underside of the neck.

Fangs dug into the heated flesh, feeling the rapid heartbeat of the Oryx while blood flowed. Slower and slower would the beats get, the animal flailing its legs at first but slowed in response as its life was drained from its body. And once Isla felt no heartbeat would she then release her death grip, panting heavily. Mismatched gaze would look to see how the others fared, and after a few moments (giving @Talisa enough time to give a prayer) Isla would grab at the animal again, this time dragging it toward their cache.

Parvati squint some more. Their thin fur didn't bunch very well under their eyes, not shielding the sunlight very well. Smell still worked fine, and the small lion sullenly set trail behind the others as they picked up a better track. It wasn't goats. Two long oryxes, their crisp outlines more suited to the plains than the mountains. Skull rose and shoulder blade whirred, twitching and shifting with their displacement of weight. As ever, Parvati found it difficult to judge when to pounce. When one was downed, they took that moment to slam their weight across a haunch to make sure it stayed that way, but firmer jaws took the risk and did the killing. The silver lion peeled a little meat from the haunch and chewed it slowly, like a herbivore chewing cud, but mostly to dampen their nerves.

Finding the prospect of conversation difficult to bear, Parvati scouted ahead toward the caches to tidy them up a bit before the heavier fresh meat would arrive.

Morrigan's faith in her wife did not waver as the prayers and hunt progressed in the familiar fashion. She had noticed Talisa's new resolve to refine her skills of this particular trade but had not yet asked if she had chosen it for the way it had once been Nymeria's most honed trade. In a way of remembering her sister who now lived amongst the gods. It was poetic, loyal, and only managed to deepened the fathomless pit that held the bond between them. Morrigan assisted where she could be most helpful, but mostly allowed the less injured to handle the hunt, before she would at least assist in the quartering before making the haul back to the cache with some leftovers. exit morrigan

The two oryx that she had stumbled across would certainly be able to be achieved by those that gathered. Thankful for each of their arrivals as she attempted to bow her head to each one and giving @Morrigan a soft headbutt to denote how pleased she was by her presence, but by their friends and family. Talisa was still new to being a ranger for the pride but she was happy that she had some that were willing to back her up. This should be relatively easy but so long as we keep our distance from their hooves, it will be smooth sailing. Talisa would much rather come out of this with healthy and unharmed lions than a good meal after all. Just stay together, then we'll have those on the outside of formation begin to put distance between us and that will force them apart and make them easier to grab.

Thankfully, her instructions had been enough to garner them two lovely pieces of meat to eat and store. Food that would last them a week or two if they played their cards right or if nature didn't intend something different. With the two downed, she bowed her head:

Once done, Talisa began to drag one of the carcasses back up the Summit. Stopping at the closest cache that she could find and tearing off a piece of its leg and placing it inside. There was plenty more in there now but at least now it was a little heavier. Little meatier. Before moving to the next one with the carcass dragging through the stone and seeing it was full, too; before carrying on to another that was quite empty. Making it easy for Talisa to simply move most of the carcass inwards and out of the snowstorm so that someone could find it and have little trouble. exit talisa
