As they all walked from the Hollows to the Pit, Keligan had given the option for Lucanus to save his little dove. The blackened beast wouldn't have normally done this, after all, both of them were of enemy prides to the Cove. But he was on neutral terms with the Andal lion but if Keligan won this fight, Caltáriel would be coming home with him. As the Cove lion walked down into the pit, he looked at Calta and spoke sternly, He wins, you can leave with him. I win, you come back to the Cove with me. If she hadn't been a part of an enemy pride, he wouldn't have taken her to begin with. Man, Sunder is gonna be annoyed with him. Oh well.

Then Keligan shifted his body to be in defensive mode. His ears pinned back against his skull, his eyelids narrowed as he bared his fangs. His jaw slightly agape to help protect his throat, his bobbed tail flicked behind him while his claws extended. Giving courtesy to waiting until Lucanus was ready, he watched the other lion. His muscles flexed beneath his skin as he then ran for the Andal lion. Keligan ATTEMPTED to ram into his opponent as his RIGHT front claws ATTEMPTED to catch Lucanus' foreleg to catch him hopefully off guard and unsteady him.

It felt strange—wrong—being a damsel in distress. What would Morrigan think? Caltáriel, here, with two men fighting over her?

She might have been giddy and tickled pink were they fighting for her hand. But it were her freedom on the line today, and it caused a knot to swell in the pit of her stomach, a lump in her throat she was unable to swallow.

As they arrived at the Pit, @Keligan turned to her and spoke sternly, words which caused the Illyrian to flinch, her lips to twitch into a frown. That is so considerate of my feelings and desires, she retorts, her lips pressed into a thin, firm line. She had little room to talk, however, given the nature of her brutal loss. Even the trek to the Pit from the far distance of the Hollow had ailed her, and she had leaned on @Lucanus in order to keep pace.

She spared her companion a final glance before their battle started, her stubbornness and ferocity suddenly softening, shifting to something more embarrassed, more riddled with guilt. Despite the heat that unfurled deep in her chest at his valiant efforts to save her, she couldn't help but feel she had imparted a heavy weight onto him, a battle that he shouldn't have had to fight. Had Caltáriel known it was so dangerous to simply attend challenges, she would never have done so.

She never would have put him in this situation.

But Gods, did she hope he'd win.

SUNDER

Sunder couldn't help the feral desire that coursed through her anytime she was near @Keligan. She had become fond of him from the moment she watched him fight Gauthier for the position of Gentry. She had spent so long being nothing but a servant, not even being given the slightest form of attention unless bidden by her master. It was a great thing not having to serve anymore, she had her freedom now and the one thing she intended to pursue was him. She wouldn't lie to herself, she was being nosy as she drifted from the Cove and headed towards the neutral lands, specifically the Pit. She'd heard plenty of this place but hadn't actually stepped paw in the arena before. Sunder didn't have any intentions of being seen, at least not right away anyways. She moves quickly and quietly, keeping her dusty frame low to the ground to take up a spot amongst both large and small boulders. Wedging her frame in-between she would peer downward, folded ears craning to listen to the voices that carried. One belonged to Keligan, making her core turn molten just by the sound of it. He wins, you can leave with him. I win, you come back to the Cove with me. The other voice was so obviously feminine which piqued her curiosity and interest. She looked downward, eyeing @Caltáriel. That is so considerate of my feelings and desires. The sarcasm oozed from her words but even Sunder could admit that the woman was beautiful. She could see why Keligan had staked a claim. Her blue eyes would flicker to the contender, interested to see what his abilities were when it came to defending a pretty lady.

They arrived at the pit and as soon as their paws hit the dirt, @Keligan again laid out the terms of their duel. Lucanus felt the tension tightening in his frame, felt the anxiety sparking between his ears, felt the weight of it all pressing hard on his chest, robbing him of full lungfuls of breath.

@Caltáriel once again expressed her disapproval and Lucanus turned to look at her then, full in the face, doubt and anger and sadness and determination chasing themselves over his dark-light features. In his eyes, however, was a tender clarity as he held onto the sight of her, the warmth of his gaze resting upon her longer than was prudent. It was the sound of his opponent stepping into place that at last tore his attention from her and, grim of mind, Lucanus took his defensive position opposite him.

As Keligan charged, Lucanus pushed off as well, his forward momentum helping to absorb some of the shock of his opponent's body slamming forcefully into him. He felt Keligan's claws dig into his left foreleg, causing him a quick stagger-step to his left to catch his balance. As he leaned toward his left, Lucanus swung his right paw toward Keligan's left cheek; his claws were fully extended but his intention was more to land a hard, hopefully disorienting smack against the lion's face.

Little did @Caltáriel know, it was for her hand. But Keligan was a selfish bastard. Yet, he was giving Lucanus the chance to win her back. The lioness was sarcastic in her words and he just shook his head slowly. The woman was then ignored as he focused on Lucanus.

Keligan's claws caught his opponent's leg and caused him to stagger to his left and then the Cove lion felt a slap against his cheek. Lucanus' claws raked against his skin as it started to bleed in rivets. Growling, he kept his eyes narrowed and ears pinned as he swung his jaws to ATTEMPT to catch Lucanus' paw that assaulted him. His own claws stayed extended as he lifted his left front leg to swipe at Lucanus' shoulder. His back claws digging into the dirt beneath them to help balance him as his bobbed tail twitched behind him.

Keligan's jaws clamped around Luc's right paw, causing a snarl of pain to reverberate from his throat. He reflexively flexed the claws of that paw in pain, hoping that he might at the very least make it uncomfortable for his opponent to continue to hold onto that paw. With his paw caught in Keligan's mouth, it was easy for the dark lion's left claws to slice into Luc's right shoulder, tearing the flesh there open.

Hoping to take advantage of Keligan's head being in one place, he aimed a bite toward his opponent's right lower jaw, his eyes narrowed protectively, desiring to grip onto Keligan's face with his teeth. As he leaned forward to do so, Luc also aimed his left claws behind Keligan's right shoulder/upper back area, attempting to dig his claws into the flesh there in order to further get a hold on the lion that also had a hold on him. He felt the stance of his hindlegs naturally widen, hindclaws further digging into the soil to best support his weight.

But in doing so, he felt the piercing of Lucanus' claws against his tongue which caused him to let go and move his head away. Spitting the blood out of his mouth, he kept his eyelids narrowed and ears pinned down as Keligan felt teeth scrape against his muzzle. Growling, he felt claws dig into his shoulders as Keligan countered and ATTEMPTED to scrape his own left front claws against Lucanus' right side of his face. Using the strength of his hind legs, Keligan ATTEMPTED to push himself forward to headbutt into his opponent, feeling the claws in his flesh while doing so. Hoping to disorient the Andal lion.

The sensation of Keligan's claws slicing into his right cheek pinged painfully in Luc's brain, but he forced his jaws to attempt to snap toward the right nonetheless, hoping to grab onto Keligan's left wrist with his teeth. Keligan's head butting into his made the young Savante see stars; he reflexively swung his now-free but bloodied right paw toward the area behind the Cove lion's left shoulder, attempting to dig his claws into the meat there—hoping to match how his left claws were dug into a similar area behind Keligan's right shoulder—not only aiming to inflict damage but also to steady himself while his vision cleared.
