Orson had just returned from a quick trip into Lorien Plains. He was technically trespassing but he did not give a shit. The pride was too big and open for the imposter to do anything to stop him. He had needed to go and retrieve his things, including his personal collection of shells and memoirs from his old home along with Anniston’s extensive collection of "treasures" that he’d bestowed upon her own the last few blissful months. Now Orson sat safely beyond the borders with his things laid in front of him, panting in the lingering heat of summer. He was still angry but feeling pretty smug. Not only had he trespassed but he’d also gone ahead and left his mark at the border just to add his own form of insult. He hadn’t even seen anyone let alone been stopped. "Pfft." Orson scoffed aloud to no one. "Some king." @Colby Trade Experience +20 ![]() (Site-Wide Double Exp) |

Summer
The summer season has finally reached its peak. The sunshine is plentiful, the days are long and the air is hot and humid - but the evenings do not seem to provide the same relief that they once had, and remain somewhat stuffy. Thunderstorms have also began appearing more frequently, particularly in the rainforest and eastern region, though the rain is welcomed after a relatively dry season thus far.

It felt like he had only just started to settle in, which made it or the more dismaying when everything had suddenly been upended. So much for everything turning up Colby. At least it had meant he hadn’t much to gather. A pelt was about it, which he felt silly for. What was a rogue supposed to do with a pelt? He’d left such things behind before in fear of having to leave them behind. But here he was again, getting sentimental.
Carrying the thing he couldn’t let go of slung over his mid-back, he hadn’t been intending to stray so close to the plains. Maybe it was some sort of symbol now. There was a decision to be made: did he return to a rogue’s life or embrace the purpose and comforts of a pride?
Distant in thought, Colby’s gaze settled on a resting shape in the grass. Striped, dark mane - wait, he wasn’t entirely unfamiliar. Another cast-out from Lorien, though Colby didn’t know his name off the top of his head. Whoops. “Successful heist?” he chuckled as he flopped down in the grass next to @Orson, teeth flashing in a cheeky grin.

Orson spotted Colby and turned his head, lifting his chin in a nod of greeting. He had not been all too familiar with the lion he saw approaching but recognized him as a former pride mate. The pelt slung across his back hinted at their similar situations and his words brought a smug grin to his maw. "Heh." Orson gave a snort of derisive laughter. "Some king. It was too easy." He paused, eyeing Colby warily for a second as a thought occurred to him. "Or are you here to stop me?" Orson wasn’t sure if this other lion had changed allegiances as some were known to do. "…Colby, was it?" |

They are kindred spirits in the sense they have both been displaced. He wondered how long it had been for Orson since he had last been a rogue - or if he ever had, for that matter. The paladin craned out his neck to inspect the baubles the younger man had recovered. Plenty of keepsakes, it seemed.
”Here to stop you? No way.” Colby assured him with a firm shake of his head, ”That’s your stuff man. No stress.” Truthfully he probably had the ‘goody two shoes’ vibe around him - a paladin’s upbringing tended to give that off - but Colby was not here to police a former pride mate. Especially when their home had been so recently disrupted and he was feeling disgruntled.
Oh blast, the kid remembered his name. Now he felt bad for not recalling his. ”Yep. Colby. I uh, can’t say I know your name though.” Maybe it was a byproduct of getting hit over the head one too many times but he had never been the sharpest tool in the shed. ”It’s nice to meet you properly…?” a seeking question with ample room for @Orson to inform his mental slip.

"Orson." He replied with no offense taken. They'd never been properly introduced. Orson was simply observant, and had been quite active with his previous role as Lead Hunter. He organized a good number of hunts for the pride, he talked most everyone, and he had an in with the heiress, so he tended to hear a lot. "It's nice to meet you too." There was no judgement of anyone being a goody-boy, seeing as Orson had been accuse of being one himself. Coming from a family of foul-mouthed ruffians, it was quite the anomaly but here he was. "Are you thinking about rejoining Lorien?" Orson would ask as a sudden impulse hit him. "Cuz... you shouldn't." He added somewhat lamely without giving any further reasons. His mind was working quickly to come up with them though, in case Colby needed convincing. His main reason was that he hated the interloper. He didn't know him, but the fact that he'd come in and taken Violarum's throne, upset Anniston, and stripped him of his home was enough reason for Orson to hate him, no matter what kind of lion he was. |

Formalities out of the way, Colby soon received the answer to his question. He’d commit the name to memory with a nod. He hoped to save himself any further embarrassing spots or moments of lacking. Being a rogue for many months had obviously made him sloppy. Or was it just not as big of a deal as he felt? Bah, the boy didn’t seem all too bothered, so Colby decided to follow his vibe.
It felt like they were on the same patterns, as although it hadn’t been exactly what Colby was considering, @Orson’s question caught him off-guard. ”Err,” he said, ”I don’t know if it’d be Lorien specifically, but I was considering it.” he admitted. “Whys that?” He was friends with Violarum and sad to see him dethroned, after all. But Colby honestly hadn’t given his next step much thought. What was he supposed to do with himself now?

Orson shook his head emphatically. "Stick with the real pride." He suggested. "Just because that fake came and took Lorien doesn't mean our pride has to break apart." He explained. "I'm still loyal to Violarum." Violarum had a large family and they would be sticking together. Orson cared about Anniston most of all, but he held the fallen king in high regard and wanted to follow him. And the more support they had, the better right? "Lorien Plains is just the name of a patch of grass. A real pride is made up of the lions who live together." That's what Orson had learned through his short time in this world, losing Scilla Lagoon again and again, his birth family scattering to the wind, and now Violarum losing Lorien. "Violarum founded Lorien. He can found something new." |

Colby took in @Orson's suggestion with great consideration, a slow nod dipping his maned head. "I hadn't thought of it like that." he replied after a pause. "I was upset, kinda. I felt like I was just settling in and then... that guy rocked up. Does it really not have to change?" He was keen on the idea immediately, it just hadn't occured to him that it didn't just have to stop because someone had said so.
Ever a big fan of found family, Colby straightened up as he listened. "Yeah... yeah you're right." he said with more confidence. Pride, schmide. He had liked the plains gang, and wasn't so keen to leave them behind for something so insignificant in the long run.
"Count me in. I'll be there." he said with a nod. "Fuck that faker." Strong words toward a man he didn't know anything about, but Colby disliked it when people messed with his friends.
