It was pouring. Lightning slashed through the sky overhead, accompanied by a crackle of thunder that made the Hodari startle. "For fucks sake," she mumbled to herself as she slipped through the jungle. She had been attempting to venture out on a hunt, but nature seemed to have other plans for her just then. Safia knew with a quick glance to the sky that the storm was unlikely to move away anytime soon. There was no way in fucking hell she would be able to pursue prey with the scents washed away; the rain was not exactly considerate of the hungry lioness.

The mauve woman groaned and turned towards a river instead, frowning as she noticed the rushing waters. The river itself had swollen from the rain much to her dismay, so she finally threw in the towel and made her way to the watering hole instead. It was empty save for a few brave wildebeests, so Safia didn't feel too awkward wading into the waters to try and snag herself a fish. It wouldn't be ideal, but anything would suffice at that point.

The weather did look promising when she made her descent from the mountains. Key word being look. She was on a mission to do a little bit of exploring, wanting to stretch her legs and reacclimate herself to the world that was below her home. Staying up in the Summit's territory was making Isla feel a bit too comfortable, and once she realized that she knew that she needed some exposure to other places that weren't snowy and cold all year-round. So she made her way toward the watering hole, at first sprinting to release some pent up energy she felt within her limbs. She would sprint until she felt her muscles burn and ache, and as she slowed that was when the rain began to pour.

And pour it did.

It wasn't long until the Summit Heiress was completely drenched, thick fur now plastered to her body and dripping whatever water that could not be absorbed by now soaked fur. As an ear twitched she would catch sounds of wildebeests nearby, and as she lowered herself toward the ground in a crouching stalk would she creep forward, colossal form moving slowly and trying to keep herself as hidden as she possibly could. She didn't notice that there was another feline nearby, so she would continue to stalk forward, dual colored eyes narrowing on a smaller looking wildebeest.

Everything was worse in the middle of a storm. The fish had a tendency to collect at the bottom to avoid the droplets and the wind blowing them around near the top, so her plans needed to be readjusted slightly. Didn't matter. She was going to get in there and find herself a goddamn fish whether or not she needed to be fully submerged or not.

Safia waded until her ankles were wet, then continued in until her chest fur was just beginning to touch. It seemed like it would be deep enough to start fishing, so she hunkered down and began the search when she caught the reflection of someone else in the water. Startled, Safia gasped and jerked backwards, immediately slipping on an algae covered stone and plummeting into the raging rapids of the current. She was immediately lost in the chaos, only occasionally resurfacing for air before being swallowed back. Safia didn't know which way was up, which way was down, or how long she had before she simply drowned.

How she found out she was not alone was by the sudden sound of splashing very close to where she was at. Her body would instinctually go on alert, rising to her full height as eyes snapped in the direction the noise had come from. Narrowing so that she could shield her eyes the best she could form the downpour, it would take Isla a couple of moments before she saw what had made the noise: a lion! With a gasp, the Greyflood would lunge forward, powerful limbs carrying her over toward where she had last seen the body come up from being submerged.

Mud made the ground slick and slippery and a few times Isla would stumble and stutter, having to catch herself and make sure she didn't fall into the rushing waters as well. But her speed would not deter, running until she made it to the water's edge. Eyes would dart frantically, trying to see if she could spot the body, and before she were about to move to another spot the visual of a lion's nape would push through the water and to the surface. "Hold on!" Isla would roar out, unsure whether or not this feline was even alive.

She'd position herself so that she were about elbow deep in the water herself, stretching her neck as far as she could while jaws gaped open to grab onto what she saw. She'd yank and begin to take steps backward, dragging the body with her as fast as she could. Once the two of them were on solid ground Isla would use a paw to roll the lioness onto her back, placing both forepaws onto the woman's chest and beginning to pump up and down with force. "Hey, wake up! Breathe!"

When she finally started coming back around, Safia knew she was dead. It was a bit of a contradictory statement, yes, but the Hodari knew damn well she was in heaven being welcomed into the flock of Maua themselves by one of the most beautiful women she had ever seen. Granted, she only saw the beautiful woman for about one millisecond before she then began tap dancing on her chest. Safia groaned and accepted her fate at having her chest crushed in by the angel (that was apparently sent from hell), but suddenly she could breathe and she was spitting up water and coughing and: "fucking FUCK!"

Because that was what every lady did when they woke up, thank you.

She noticed, however, that there was something hooked on one of her claws and glanced sidelong to see a fish speared through. "Aw, fuck yeah. Fuck." Safia groaned, trying to roll back over onto her stomach and empty out the remaining water from her lungs.

The thought of having to deal with a dead lion kept going through her mind; what would she have done with it? Bury it? Leave it? Drag it back to the Summit and ask Mutter on how to dispose of it? Those were questions that would not be answered today, thankfully, as the lioness underneath her paws came to sputtering out water. With a sigh of relief would Isla cease the pumps on the woman's chest, taking a step back and grounding herself by taking in a couple of deep breaths.

Dual eyes would glance at the fish that was speared by the spotted woman, letting out a slight chuckle. "The fish died so that you were spared." What a philosophical comment. The woman would roll over and get rid of the rest of water she had inhaled, ears twisting backward slightly as her head turned to the side. Once the noise had softened, Isla would readjust her attention back on the woman: "Are you okay?"

Her mane was plastered down around her face, blocking the majority of her vision and causing her to slick some of it back with her non-fishy-speared paw. It wasn't an attractive look, but it didn't matter. Her looks never had. Isla, however? "I'm much better now that there's a fuckin' smoke show of a guardian angel standing in front of me," she said with a lopsided smirk before lifting the fish towards her. "It's not roses, but it's more useful. For you, gorgeous." God, she hoped Isla liked fish. The lioness took another few moments to gathering her bearings and rose to her paws a bit unsteadily, shaking off and beginning the process of combing her mane back down into some semblance of normalcy.

The woman's forwardness on the compliments would cause for a brow to raise, Isla watching the other with a grin of her own. "I'm not sure I would categorize myself as an angel," she would quip, a soft hum vibrating in her throat after she spoke. The fish would be offered to her and with a delicate bite would the Heiress free it from the woman's claws. She would place to before her whole the maned woman got to her feet, waiting a moment before speaking once more. "Would you like to share?" Before getting an answer Isla would be already go to work in splitting the fish, tearing it with both jaws and claws. Once it was in two she would slide one half toward the other. "I'm Isla, who're you?" Might as well get to know each other a little since she saved her life and all, right?

"You're mistaken," she replied with a lopsided smile. "I've never seen such an angelic face before. Especially not immediately after almost drowning, although.. well, that's the first time I've ever almost drowned." Safia sighed, doing what she could with her mane despite the still-falling rain. It was a fruitless endeavor, but at least she could say she tried.

Her ear twitched towards the woman as she offered her a part of the fish. Safia didn't even need to reply before the other half was being tossed her way and, not wanting to offend her guardian angel, accepted it without hesitation. "Thanks. Appreciate it." Before she could dig in, she shook her head again. Mane. Sticking. Everywhere.

"Safia. What about you, hot stuff?"

Isla had never come close to drowning, and after experiencing herself on rescuing and reviving another from such a disaster she hoped to never come this close to death - not for a long time, that is. "Well thank you," the lioness would respond, accepting the continued compliments with a grin. Her offer was accepted and she would give a slight nod as acknowledgement, watching as the woman shook out the tufts of hair that created her unique mane; she was quite the looker, herself.

"Nice to meet you, @Safia," would come her response, dual eyes now glancing up at the sky. She had to squint to try to keep the rain from hitting her eyes directly, and with a soft sigh she would look back down at Safia. "I must go, but it was a pleasure saving you, Safia." A jest spoken in a teasing tone. "Keep away from deep waters, ja?" Jaws snatched up her portion of the fish before she turned to leave, tail swishing behind her as the rain continued to pelt down heavily.
