She had been in a constant state of turmoil since her reunion, if that is what it could be called, with Tripfire. She had tried to fight back the anger and pain. To admit her defeat and move on. But alas, every time her eyes slipped closed it was his face that haunted her. His saddened eyes and his deepened voice as he broke the news to her. News that had ripped the heart she had protected so fiercely from her rib cage and smashed it on the ground at his feet.

She had to let it out. Or at least, that is what she would claim she was doing as paws shifted over the various lands until they found solace in the dry, cracked earth of the Badlands. She would circle around the pit at first until she found a suitable clearing that lacked any obstacles that could possibly end up in the way within the crater. It is here that she would wait for someone to come along and allow her the release she needed. Her body was already morphing into that of a predator. Her body lowered on slightly crouched limbs as she centered her weight. Nub of tail straightened behind her as ears remained high on alert. She remembered that some liked to sneak up for the first move.

She was ready.

He came to the pit somewhat more often now, which wasn't uncommon for him. His training here frequently ebbed and flowed, with him making several visits in a row and then staying away for some time. As for why he'd chosen to come that day, well it wasn't for any particular reason. He'd just felt like it.

The woman in the pit already was small, and while he did have some misgivings about fighting anyone with that much of a size difference, he also knew that size didn't mean everything. She was likely fast, agile, and no doubt knew how to defend herself if she was looking for a tussle. Plus, he would give her the option of saying hell no as he descended into the pit and took a ready stance, tiling his head ever so slightly to the side in silent question of whether or not she wanted to proceed.

As she remembered, it did not take long for someone to find her. The sounds of paws shuffling across the ground caught her attention first. Head raised enough to allow her gaze to find him and track his path down the side of the crater. He came to rest somewhere before her with a readied stance. She only considered him for a moment.

Proceed she would. There was possibly a hint of a smirk on her lips as her small paws would rush her forward, bodice tried to remain low as she moved. She would try to use her shorter height to her advantage in this given moment, as she attempted to barrel her chest into his front limbs. An attack on his balance, if anything.

It seemed she would take him up on his offer, and he braced himself as she came at him like a miniature avalanche. He wasn't sure what her plan was, but slamming into him at full tilt wouldn't have been one of the things he'd guessed. His legs buckled backwards, sending him into a bow. He tucked his chin into his mane to help protect the underside of his neck and throat in case she decided to go for it, and he also opened his jaws and attempted to get a grip on her skull if he could, since they were so close. He was probably going to have a mouthful of her half mane in a minute, but such was the price to pay.

She had not expected to make contact with his front limbs. She almost assumed he would be able to just step over her or something of the sort. However, she was glad to feel his knees buckle some, but that was lost when his jaws came down on top of her head and mess of an ebony half mane. She winced and jerked her head up at the same time that she would extend her own front limbs from their crouch in hopes to knock her skull into his teeth. Her own teeth snapped toward his chest- knowing all too well she was about to be gripping at the thick of his mane. Well if he could pull her hair, she could pull his. The spar was already not anything she expected.

Yep, mouthful of hair. Mouthful of pain too as she jerked her head up, colliding with his teeth and straining his jaws. It probably didn't feel too good for her either, which he could take solace in.

His attempt at protecting his jugular had worked, but instead she now had a mouthful of his mane, and that was a new type of pain as some of the strands came out. It hurt more than he would have expected, actually. Not cripplingly so, but enough that he made note of it.

He shook his head, attempting to shake her as well. Maybe he could get her to let go, or maybe he was just making it easier to rip pieces of his mane out. Then he let go, lifting his front left paw and attempting to shove her to the side. He didn't want to keep his grip on her and inadvertently hurt her if he succeeded in his push.

Her head collided with his teeth when he made his grasp. She hoped she caused enough strain on his jaws to matter. Her hair was pulled as it tangled in his mouth. Her own clamped down on the dark mane that covered his chest and throat. Her Head pulled back a fraction more as she tried to rip at the fur on his chest until she could feel the tension on her be released. She had barely a moment to let go of his before the paw reached her side. In a last desperate attempt, she tried to grab at any part of the assaulting limb as she allowed the force to topple her over. Just maybe her added falling weight could at least hurt his leg cause she doubted she pull the monstrous-sized brute down.

Like a mouse who chose to fight a brick wall.

He'd never actually had anyone attempt to rip out his mane before. Part of him wondered if it would grow back. Surely it would. It was like all fur. Well, if it didn't then he'd just have a little bare patch. So be it.

He shoved, perhaps harder than he'd needed to as she went down. Oops. Her scrabbling at his leg left furrows in it, but he didn't yank it away, thinking she could potentially catch her balance if she could actually get a grip. Something he wouldn't have allowed had this been a true fight, but since it was just practice he didn't see the issue.

She didn't catch herself, however, and he set his paw on her briefly in a silent "pinned ya" before he removed it to let her up.

"The hair pulling actually hurts," he commented. "For the next time you go against someone with a mane."

He rubbed a paw against the underside of his mane, trying to get a feel for how much of it she might have ripped out. A shrug escaped him when he realized it didn't matter. He wasn't particularly vain, which was a good thing considering how many fights he got himself into. "A good fight," he said to her with a respectful nod before he turned to go. She might think he was screwing with her, but he truly wasn't. She had taught him something there that he hadn't known before, and he would remember it the next time he fought someone with a mane or other hair.
