Prompt: A giraffe has somehow found its way to the Summit and it is suffering for it as it gasps for breath in the thin air of the mountain top.

András had spent far too much time with his children, had neglected any sort of duties to the pride; though he'd been kept a prisoner, and perhaps could have argued that he owed them nothing. Yet, the conditions of his lingering here had been ones forged out of blind faith, and though he were still suspended between his loyalty to his past and his hopes for the future, he figured the very least he could do was be here, now, staring down as the giraffe struggled against the snowy slopes of the Summit.

He prowled from afar, his white coat blending in well between the snow-dusted earth and the gray backdrop of cliffsides stretching far above him. The giraffe was far too large and noisy to go unnoticed, however, and though he perhaps could have bided his time and waited until he could spook the beast into falling to their death, it would more likely end in a hunt between many of Illyria's lions. Thus, he laid in wait, his eyes never quite leaving the beast.

Caltáriel was quite the huntress. So she'd like to think.

Despite her injuries, she remained well-hidden, silently stalking through the sparse underbrush of the mountain. Though she did not quite blend in as well, she was silent, and had made herself small, and stalked the scent and the angry noises of the giraffe as it attempted to scale the mountainside. What a rare and unique sight, Caltáriel had thought at first, choosing to gawk at the thing rather than stalk it. But, the idea of such a trouble beast being up here almost delighted her, the prospect of it feeding them for days too much to turn away.

Thus, she lingered. Waited. She never quite let the beast get out of her sight, but gentle chuffs alerting anyone else nearby attempted to gather more of them while she slunk after the prey. Steady, unwavering, well within her element.

what was this?

the other adults, already gathered to witness the giraffe’s struggle, might be worried on how to take down such a difficult tier prey. but virgil? virgil is awestruck. it’s an ugly little beastie with a stretched out neck, towering high like the summit itself. it’s fur is stark against the greyscale landscape and is littered with spots, and it has strange little stick-legs compared to the heft of the rest of it. it’s misshapen and out of place and most curiously of all, the creature seemed to be struggling with breathing in the thin air. which, like, #same. wolfish ears tick forward as he stares, all wide-eyed and enthralled. the idea of hunting it doesn’t even come to mind, not yet.

This was different.

Isla always found it amusing when animals that had no business in a climate such as the Summit found their way there. The confused and worried looks they gave off did sometimes make her feel sorry for them, but the instinct of a hunt was what always overpowered all other thoughts and emotions. And as she made her way along the pride's borders, her patrolling just finishing up, it would be the scent of the giraffe that would catch her attention.

She'd move swiftly over the snowy, mountainous terrain; she had become more than accustomed to how to navigate through her home, making it easy for her to move from place to place with ease. Two toned eyes would land upon a couple of members already gathered, watching the giraffe as it seemed to struggle to breathe in this climate. Pity, she would mutter softly, body crouching low and beginning to slowly stalk forward and keeping herself apart from the trio. She wanted to take on an air of surprise when it came time for the hunt to begin.

seven years, pride tier five. With anticipation of what she assumed was her own self being pregnant, Talisa carefully moved through the Summit. Taking extra precautions with each step and ensuring that the livelihood of whatever was brewing inside of her would reach the light of a beautiful day. Moving into a gathering of her pride mates, family and friends alike, did she settle amongst them. Smiling brightly to @Isla ♔, pleased to see her excel and grow as their heiress and to @Virgil who was growing into quite the adamant figure. While beaming to another of Morrigan's kin in @Caltáriel and a nod to @András. Her feelings towards the male still uncertain. Happy that he was sticking to Fernweh and their children but still quite conflicted with what his familial alliance might mean in the future.

seven years, pride tier five At least it wasn't an elephant. Or, gods forbid it, whatever the hell that mammoth monstrosity had been. It was a giraffe though, which made things more difficult than the mountain goats and other smaller creatures who normally called the Summit home. She was glad her children were here to see this, as well as her kin and beloved wife, moreso because they were all more agile hunters than herself no doubt.

That meant Morrigan got to do what she did best and just be a dangerous hunk of muscle with claws and teeth. She would even cast a vaguely grateful look at @András that he had been the first to stumble upon a potentially dangerous creature. She stayed well back with her own dark coat and waited to be of most use.

fernweh is quick and eager to be by her husband's side while eyeing the giraffe that had wondered here on its own. admittedly, she's here just to make sure no one attacks andras, but she's also craving for the exhilaration of a hunt. as the kids are old enough to be left alone, fernweh feels confident in their ability to not drop down the summit and injure themselves. she was often alone as a cub and she came out alright.

i want the neck as a gift she mutters, only to andras as she slides up toward him. the giraffe is big enough to be divided amongst everyone. but it's not fatty enough for her taste. still, fernweh is excited so she drops down onto her belly, ready for the hunt. With grace and strength, the group of Illyrian's race against the steady but hindered run of the Giraffe. The prey truly does not do well in this climate nor its geography and thus it truly is no match for the lions that call this Summit home. The giraffe is felled with his neck draped over a nearby rock as its breaths decreased until it was no more. Talisa bowed her head in quiet prayer... Bless us, Oh Creator, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive, from thy bounty, through Maua, Our Creator. ...before moving in to take what she could of the giraffe and begin to relocate whatever needed to be. Leaving enough time and room for anyone to take what they needed or wanted, of course, all the while hoping that the pride would be sustained and satiated for a time. exit talisa
