Summer
The summer season has finally reached its peak. The sunshine is plentiful, the days are long and the air is hot and humid - but the evenings do not seem to provide the same relief that they once had, and remain somewhat stuffy. Thunderstorms have also began appearing more frequently, particularly in the rainforest and eastern region, though the rain is welcomed after a relatively dry season thus far.

a debt now owed
Linnæa harbored mixed feelings about her situation with Aeistrios coming here with Ingrid. There wasn’t a part of her who could turn own an innocent child who couldn’t choose for themselves. The sharper side of her realized what place this put Aeistrios in, to owe her. A powerful place for her to be in. Though the softer side didn’t appreciate that a child’s life was used to get there. Linn chuffed for @Jafar. She was pretty certain her scent would give away something had transpired when new scents lingered upon her gray pelt as she waited for her husband.

Looking after his own cubs was a duty that he was happy to fulfill when he could. Taking off valuable moments in his busy schedule where he could look after them, follow them and see what adventures they found all by themselves. Thankfully with Thrain now Heir he had a bit more time to spare which gave him just enough time to follow @Linnæa's call. Finding someone to take a moment to look after the kids while he did so but he wasn't expecting to find another cub sitting at her feet, sleeping by the looks of it.
Eyes squinted, recognizing instantly that it was not any cub of his but more importantly, that this whole situation smelled ... different, literally. What is this? he asked, pointed purple gaze drifting to the child, whose is that? Not that he was truly a lion to shove a helpless child away from the things it needed to survive but based on what he was smelling, he couldn't be too sure that he liked it.

She expected @Jafar to dislike it immediately. Ingrid brought Aeistrios and his newborn son to our border and asked me to feed the cub until he can be weaned. A simple explanation. Her posture remained relaxed. She aimed to remain calm in the face of how Jafar felt about the situation. This boy’s mother had passed away shortly after having him. I have plenty of milk left over to ensure he is fed as the transgression of his father does not belong to him. A careful reminder. Linnæa would never hurt this cub or any cub nor could she turn away one who needed someone. Aeistrios owes me his son’s life and it’s an opportunity for us to live a little more comfortably while removing a threat. Linn didn’t start with ulterior motives, but she sure found some.

The moment that that name came cascaded out of the lips of his wife, his hair stood on end and his muscles tightened. As though the male were standing in front of him preparing to attack. Every inch of the Casales male felt as though he was suddenly hearing, seeing and feeling everything -- his senses altered to sweep in to protect. Realizing that @Linnæa had seen the guy and had not called for him, had not screamed for him to come.
Nose flared, deep inhales and deep exhales straight through his nose as he unintentionally stared daggers into his wife's face. Feeling rage and hurt, panic and heartbreak all in one sitting was not what he had expected to receive coming to see her. Yet, he could hardly see the silver lining at first. All he saw was red in his vision at the prospect that he had even been in the same proximity as her once more. That he had even deigned to look in her general direction and ask her for a favor.
Eventually his gaze cast to the boy and while his own features were lax (because despite how hard he was on his children, they did have that affect on him), he only saw the "father". That male will not move passed the borders. At all. A firm order, reevaluating the situation second by second in his head. Child of his or not, this is my home. Surely Linnaea understood now that she had her own children that this stranger could very well still be a threat to the safety of everyone in the Rainforest. Even though the child was cute and should not pay for the sins of the father, Jafar would not be trojan'd here.
As far as having an opportunity for more comfort, he understood it to some degree. This would-have-been potential usurper will owe her, owe them, and even though it took a while to sink in, Jafar was planning mentally. Dark purple eyes casting down to the child again and staring at it as though he contemplating eating it as though saying that it was never delivered. He wasn't a lion eater, though, so that wasn't the direction but the thought was humorous even if just for a moment.
What would you have him owe us, then? Jafar knew what he would ask of the brute but as far as he was concerned, this was Linn making the arrangement and saving the child. That meant that it was, essentially, Aeistrios indebted to her.

Linnæa remained calm while she watched the tell-tale signs of anger filter over her husband. If it weren’t for the child, Linn would have chased Aeistrios away herself. She wouldn’t be making deals with the very man who upset @Jafar in such a manner if it wouldn’t be worth while. She let him feel and stayed quiet until he began to ask her questions. I have told him as such and he made it clear he wasn’t joining either. Linn had her own political head on her shoulders. I even said if he needed or wanted something else besides his son’s life he would be asking you, not me. She could pull some strings, work some things, but she wouldn’t do this behind her husband’s back. I propose an alliance of sorts, make the problem no longer a problem. I’m not saying to be buddy buddy with him, but if he ever takes a pride of his own, it would be better not to hate him. At the least it is a growing family who must side with us for this little life here.

Even though the thought of the male owing them a debt felt like a boon, he also could not dispose of the belief that he wanted nothing to do with this stranger. That he needed the male far, far away from Linnaea - and possibly from Maia - and all of his children. Now that he knew anything about the guy other than that he had the hots for his newest wife and that he had wanted Firnen for himself. @Linnæa, ever the thoughtful individual, proposes that they strike some sort of neutrality/peace between one another. Jafar can't see passed his own nose, metaphorically, at this point. Yes, but how far is he willing to go to continue that once his son's life is saved? How much trust can I put into him once we have paid our due? The response came a bit late as he mulled over every detail of what could go right and what could go wrong. Feeling like he was caught in a bear trap with no way out. Finding some sort of peace between each other was a nice thought, but that could very well be all it could ever be - a thought.

I don't know. She would admit. That would require another conversation to see how far he is willing to barter. She would release a sigh as she rolled her shoulders to let go of some built-up tension. Chaos has shaken many of the prides so far, it would be better to find allies rather than enemies. Her fear and hatred for the Rike hadn't dissipated and she felt the land could very well be divided between the Sigrun and the Rike. She did not have the distaste for Aeistrios as @Jafar did, only the respect of her husband to not seek out the lion who'd found her mercy killing another lion.
Jafar could safely say that he didn't know anything about the guy other than that he had apparently winked at his new wife that was heavily pregnant, and had had the intention to come for his throne. Truth was, however, that the former had a bigger impact than wanting his home. His family was his home and she was more important than a physical place. For me, personally, I would be alright if he would simply agree to stay away from our family. If @Linnæa wanted to be friends with the guy, he could somehow manage it (maybe) but somehow he doubted that the other dude would be accepting of such a position and its limitations. With likely little else to say, he let the conversation dim in an effort to move onto healthier topics. As well as to make it clear by her scent alone that she was never alone. exit jafar
