Now that this land was hers and the pride was starting to grow, it was time for them to begin to stock the pride cache. It had been left to rot when the last inhabitants had dispersed thanks to the disappearance of their leader - and may she stay missing, for all Tia cared - so she'd had to clean out old food and bones that were no longer fit for consumption.

Now she needed the help of the pride to fill it again.

The scent of something wafted to her on the wind and Tiamat dropped into a crouch, scenting the air and selecting a direction based on where the smell was coming from. Softly, she chuffed for the pride to join her, hoping that, as small as it was, a few would join in to help her stock the cache again. They needed it, especially if they were going to be growing their numbers.

Some old and aching part of her missed hunting in the sand. A lion could never be sure-footed, the spray of granules kicked up in their fray almost delightful. It was far less murky than the Mire, but their numbers were far fewer, and it would be long before they'd amassed a size comparable. However, the camaraderie of a small pride never fell short on Tinúviel, who had grown up in the close-knight Cove under Sahir's rule. She'd known nothing grander than recognizing each face, knowing each name.

As she arrived, she took residence beside @Tiamat, leaving enough room between them to breathe comfortably, but close enough to show solidarity between the stranger-Queens. A small, shy smile unfurled upon her lips, ears twisting forward and nose twitching in its attempt to catch onto the scent the High Sovereign had found upon the salty wind.

Lyric perked up from the bone they had been gnawing, lifting a brow to attention as the sound of a lioness's chuff tickled at their ears. While the sunlit cat could not exactly pinpoint who it belonged to, context insisted that it could only be one of so many voices. She would answer regardless.

Trotting along the sands with careful footing, they came to see two figures crouched in the distance. Understanding shone in Lyric's gaze as she attempted to near silently, confirming the tiny bear and chiseled ivory of the new queens. Where they led in this hunt, Lyric followed.

Caelum had been nearby when he heard the soft chuffs carried on the gentle coastal breeze. Being that he was doing nothing of importance, he made his way towards the sounds immediately, eventually finding a small group of lionesses - one maned - grouped together, crouched in the sand. Caelum crouched, too, coming up behind them with his bulk as he waited for the signal to begin.

"Queen," he greeted @Tiamat with a murmer, though his eyes lingered on the bronze and vibrant form of the one maned lioness (@Lyric). Her coat was stunning even if her appearance was a bit confusing. He admired the way her mane coiled in neat waves, adorned with various flowers and herbs... almost like it was an intended mess. He easily became distracted by the unique appearance of his pride mate, forgetting for the moment about the hunt.

Wandering her new land, she had quickly discovered some pigeon pea hiding away in a tucked alcove along the cliffs. It had been a tough grab if one was afraid of heights or had a fear of falling, but Carina had managed to pluck just a couple. Carefully removing the plant as a whole, even though she only needed the leaves and seeds, but trying to get those specifically while on a very limited platform was quite difficult. So she removed a couple plants on the way forward and once she was on solid ground, she picked apart the two she needed and carried them back to her den just in time to hear some shuffling nearby.

Quiet steps led her nose to do its work, testing the wind and letting that take her to where the others were. The scent was a strong one and made sense as to how they had managed to track it out this far. Carina had not seen any prints in the ground aside from a half-smudged one that someone else might've stepped on since it didn't look quite right anymore. Carina couldn't imagine it would be anything super large, definitely not an elephant, so she didn't worry herself as she strode to the gathering. Tiamat was already present to which she bowed in a friendly and respectable fashion, teeth gleaming in a smile before she looked to see if she could spot their target.

How a giraffe calf had ended up by the Lagoon unattended by any parents Tiamat might never know, but she wasn't about to let a good opportunity go to waste. Unfortunately, this was not easy prey. They were so close, working like a well-oiled machine to try to bring the beast down. And though they were able to do some damage the calf ultimately escaped.

She huffed as the chase ended and they were left empty-pawed. What a shame. Her tail flicked in annoyance, but Tiamat lifted her head. "Good work," she said to the assembled lions. "We'll get the next one." Her confidence was unwavering even in the face of defeat.

Beginning to take her leave, she stopped near Caelum before heading off to patrol, her eyes seeking to catch his. "Are you enjoying your new power yet?" she crooned to him, stepping close and giving him a knowing grin as her eyes sparkled.

Then, not waiting for him to response, she slipped away, slinking off among the palm trees.

Lyric stalked after the giraffe calf, her heart thudding with anticipation for a grand beachside feast. They moved with precision, light on their paws and quick in their strategy, but it did not matter. The calf would narrowly escape their pursuit. Panting to regain her breath, she looked around to ensure that none of their hunters had been injured by its powerful hooves in the process.

"I think we should use that one as bait next time," they teased, tossing their nape in a gesture toward the only male among the bunch. In the little time that Lyric had spent getting to know males, they had gathered that gentle bullying was the way to their hearts, like children always begging for what they may not have. Tiamat's proximity to him did not go unnoticed – the way she lingered near him, murmuring what she could only assume were sweet nothings. With only a showy wave of their tail, Lyric winked at the group and turned to find a shady spot to recuperate.

It was ambitious of them to attempt such a difficult prey, but Tinúviel had seen similar feats accomplished by lions just like them, and was hopeful they could pull it off. However, as the minutes drawled onto into nearly an hour, tiredness began to take hold, and they'd been forced to give up their pursuit of the creature lest they be too tired to hold off against injury. A frown settled upon her lips, a sore disappointment in her first truly failed hunt deep-seeded.

It is the optimism of the others that lifts her spirits, however; determined are they to rest, to regain their composure, to try once more. It is not so swiftly a bad omen when she sees their determination, and Tinúviel tiredly lifts herself back to her paws, content to allow herself the surrender of rest before they would try this pursuit once more.

To say that she was gravely disappointed and flabbergasted was an understatement. Carina had chased as hard as she possibly could to try and maneuver this beast around but it seemed that no matter what she or her pride mates did, this thing out-witted them at every turn. Once she realized that @Tiamat had slowed and was letting the giraffe make its hasty getaway, Carina halted her tracks and furrowed her brows.

If it were anyone beside Tia that was offering them a confident boast she might've laughed haughtily; but she could only be pleased that even in the face of defeat, her friend was not so easily shake or put down. That much was obvious in how she challenged for the lagoon until she won.

To this relinquish exhaustion, she gathered whatever strength she had left and began scavenging for more pigeon pea. At least another branch would do. Shuffling awkwardly away from their failed hunting grounds, to an open clearing. Opening her jaws delicately over the plant which happened to not be a huge branch but something much smaller than the others. It would simply be the easiest to carry back when her paws felt like fire. With a gentle snap it came undone and she began a slow, glacial pace back to her den.

Only when she got back to the den did she realize that something had been here. Not a lion, but something smaller and it had decidedly munched on some of the plants she had had drying outside in the sun. With a grunt she let go of her pigeon pea and covered it up with a bit of warm sand, before lowering her nose to the ground to find the culprit.

Already built on frustration and adrenaline, she was prepared to ruin this plant-eating herbivore's day. Moving quickly along its scented trail and following the sloped tracks that it had left behind. Luckily for her, it was harder for smaller prey to move along the sands and thus she was able to catch up to it quickly and as a result, had a happy meal after all. exit carina
