It would be hard to miss such racket, even within the ever-croaking mire. Bruno perked up from the task at his paws, having just gotten done covering his scent with that of the prey stash. He would smell like a delicacy to any he passed by, rather than signature mire muck. That was the plan, at least – for it seemed his talents would be wasted upon meager prey. Twitching his whiskers with interest, he let out a series of summoning chuffs for the lazy whelps of Ecrosia. Let them pull their weight for a change, instead of leaving it all for the growing princes to do!

Once he was satisfied with his alerting efforts, Bruno set off through the trees in search of the trespasser. He knew the sounds of an elephant's call well enough, especially since witnessing those colossal beasts of the last couple of months. If they could pull enough hunters together, he was confident that their cache would be full for a week. The curled boy ducked within the foliage to wait until the time was right to strike.

She is sharpening her claws on a tree by the border when the trumpet sounds, hailing for the lions of the mire to come still its murky thrashing. It is a sound that is familiar but not entirely so, lacking the sheer bone rattling bass of the woolen beasts from winter but still piercing nonetheless.

The hound's claws make a final scrape over the bark of a tree before she slips back down to all fours, ears perking at the sound of the young master's chuff. So he was already at the scene. It wouldn't do to let any harm come to the boy, so good dog that she was, Dobromira came to heel on steps that traced the last stretch of the scentline she was patroling. Her path winded, taking her closer until she could see both the wading behemoth and faintest suggestion of curls among the damp foliage.

Keeping low, the hound waited.

The thunderous trumpet that pierces the air and seems to rattle even the boggy earth of the swamp is impossible to miss, whether one considered themselves a skilled hunter or not. As is the following racket of splashes and squelching caused by the colossal beast flailing in the treacherous muck. Myra smirks from where she sits, examining the newly sharpened tips of her claws.

Such fearsome beasts, and yet they seem to have a habit of making themselves vulnerable within the grasp of the Mire lions.

Myra won't complain when the beast's stupidity has provided another opportunity to fill their cache up to bursting. With her golden pelt dimmed by a layer of mud and mulch, the huntress weaved through the familiar paths in well-practiced silence, stalking ever closer until she could finally behold the beast in all its short-lived glory. She registers the presence of one of the young princes and the newest Gentry with a faint glimmer of approval.

But they would need more numbers than these if they were to break through the elephant's desperate defenses.

A call rang out for the Mire lions and Adeodatus was keen to answer it. He wasn't lazy but he had been neglecting his duties as of recently so why not force himself out of that rut by helping out with a hunt. Adeodatus caught the scent of an elephant as well as some of his pride-mates. Bloodied jewels catching sight of the newest Gentry and @Bruno ♔. Ears pushing into his mane as he forced his rather large body lower to the ground and move closer to the lions who were already there and waited for the right time to strike. His ears twitching on his head, even bumping against @Myra.

Now that her leg was healed, Tiamat had begun to try to throw herself into things again. She'd had few chances at the passage since bringing Dobromira home with Bruno, but that didn't mean she couldn't be useful in other ways.

The trumpet of the elephant immediately caught her attention. How could it not, when creatures such as that were so incredibly rare in a place like the Mire? The massive beasts were not suited for the tangled growth of trees in places like the jungle or the swampy Mire.

The sound cut through the air like thunder and her head raised immediately from from what she had been doing, her ears straining forward as excitement raced through her veins. She loved a challenge, and this would be one hell of a fight for anyone involved. As she made her way through the undergrowth she noticed others making their way towards the sound. Good. They would need all the help they could get.

They gathered together, keeping low in the brush around the thrashing elephant. It would be dangerous, but if enough of them gathered they could manage to take the massive beast down.

one year, pride tier five

Carina had been biding her time in the quiet shadows of Ecrosia. Lingering and mostly interacting with @Tiamat and learning more english as the days went on as well as trying to teach the woman what she could of russian. So far, she hadn't a large or good impression of the pride that had secured her at the Passage but she held loyalty and respect to the wheat woman. Nonetheless, she knew it was in her best interest to help at hunts even though she was a ghost.

Busying herself with collecting herbs around the area was usually what she did aside from helping her adult-friend. Sniffing out each and every herb that she could and not only making a note of their location, but occasionally taking it from where it had grown and placing it in a cache that she had hidden along the border. In the event that she was no longer a part of the pride, she wanted to be able to snag it without trespassing as to avoid attack.

Carefully taking some crabwood stems and a few nuts and wrapping them in a giant leaf, binding them all together with some vines before carting it to her cache. Nudging them into their location before taking a swift look around her to make sure no one was itching to take what she had found. Swiping some dirt in front of it to cover it before departing towards the call for a hunt. Sweeping through the area and putting her nose to the test. Trailing the tracks of a beast that she was surprised she hadn't heard until getting closer.

If the tracks hadn't led her carefully through the muck of the mire, the trumpeting of an elephant had. It's tracks were large and unmistakable and unavoidable, four times as large as her own but the depth was quite the sight. Eyes locked onto the gray scaly-looking pelt of the behemoth and hunkered down, feeling bewildered in its midst even if it hadn't looked her direction. Yet.

Its shrill cry is undeniable as it blasts through the humid peace of the swamp, stirring the chestnut Ecrosian to curiosity. The woman had been patrolling the borders opposite to where the elephant had entered, but even though she had missed its scent, there was certainly no mistaking its presence now. Her attendance to its location was without hesitation, and she arrived on the heels of the others. Hazel eyes shifted over those who were only vaguely familiar, and she would stalk forward – not bothering overmuch to obscure herself, since the beast was ensnared in the mud – and would pace to the other side of @Adeodatus. She spared him an affectionate nip to his flank as her gaze flicked over his back to consider @Myra, and she would nod if the huntress looked her way. Otherwise, her attention shifted back to the beast that was trapped in the muck of the swamp and caught in the sights of the lions who ruled here. She would then wait quietly for the hunt to begin.

The distressed sound of thrashing and trumpeting sent the lion forward, swift to see why an elephant was causing such a ruckus in the Mire. Maybe it was a bull that was trying to get a female? Arriving, he noticed the group hunkering down and tilted his head a bit before looking at the stuck elephant. Oh, feeling suicidal were they? Sure, why not. Livyatan moved his bulk to position himself just out of sight of the elephant rolling his shoulders and getting his body coiled to bolt. He wanted to run up and take a piece of that ear…

He's startled awake by the thunderous trumpet that shakes the air, the prince nearly falling from his branchy perch to the damp earth down below. Elephant. Right. How terribly rude of it to disturb his otherwise peaceful nap. It's only fair that it should provide compensation by feeding him and the pride, no?

He carefully makes his way towards the origin of the noisy chaos, darting from branch to branch with improving nimbleness. His ebony coat drags against rough bark and fragrant moss until he practically smells like the trees himself. Are the others aware of his presence above them? Would the elephant notice him in its panic?

The beast is not quite as massive (or as hairy) as the elephant-like creatures that had recently popped across the land, but the sight of its thrashing still brings a sharp smile to Hubert's lips. He'll work to take this creature down as he had done with its more unusual counterpart. At this rate, perhaps he'll be able to decorate a den of his own with those pale ivory tusks, just like Vater did.
