If she was to be bound here in these marshy lands then she would do as she had been taught and make herself of use. To stay too idle for too long made the hound's paws itch, so she found a casual route along the borders turn to something more proactive as she caught the scent of something on the wind. Something lesser than lion, prey. Perhaps something to keep the caches topped off during the late winter chill should the weather grow temperamental all of a sudden.

Dobromira was not too injured to hunt, and frankly, she would need to be laying broken and bleeding for that to be what kept her down, so the night-shaded woman allowed her movements to grow longer and slower as she followed the trail left behind. It was fresh, prints left in snowmelt that telegraphed the movement of something further into the territory. Something doomed.

Slowly, ever so slowly, the weather was growing warmer, the modest layer of ice and snow that sealed the swamp thinning out with each passing day. And yet, the approach of spring is no excuse for laxness, welcome though seasonal transition might be. The Mire houses many, and the cache cannot be allowed to dwindle. So when the scent of prey crossed Myra's path, it was only natural that she should follow it to its source.

When she emerges from the undergrowth, the huntress is pleasantly surprised to see that another is already on the trail. Dobromira is a new face to her, though she seemed a skilled enough tracker. Myra would offer her a nod, distantly approving, as she stalked near the darker woman to corner their prey.

Hopefully, some of her other pridemates would catch on as well.

He had been making an attempt at keeping tabs on the lioness. Dobromira, while she seemed to be bound to a set of strange laws, was still deemed as a flight risk in Bruno's mind. Or, perhaps he was trying to gain an understanding of the woman. Regardless, he was trailing loosely behind where he scented the cat to be, his berry-pink nose twitching to idly pick up what information he could as he tramped through the familiar mire territory. This was when he caught traces of another animal on the light breeze – perhaps something his real target was stalking.

Breaking quietly through the underbrush, he was able to catch sight of both his dark prize and one of their pride nobles in a hunter's stance. The yearling arched one brow, tossing a curl from in front of his eyes as he mulled over this turn of events. Silently, he wondered whether the attempt at feeding the pride was earnest or performative. Regardless, he attempted to take up the rear. No point in taking his sights off of her after getting so far.

Ever since his first attempt at tree-climbing not long ago, Hubert has been 'practicing' the skill on and off again around the swamp, whenever the whim happened to strike him. It so happens that that was what he was doing again, when the first dark lioness passed by beneath him.

It seemed his initial thoughts were proving to be correct - perched up in a branch, with the scent of the swamp mud and moss masking his natural notes, the woman doesn't seem to notice his presence as she stalks along the trail of some prey animal. Neither does the stripey noble that comes to join her. Nor does his half-brother.

Hmm, this was turning into a full thing, wasn't it? If it was to be a hunt, he supposed he might as well help out. It would be more exciting than just watching.

He shifts carefully, working his way down to drop behind Bruno in...relative silence, instinctively moving to mirror the curly-maned yearling on the still-open side of their little hunting party.

2 years, ranger level 4 New faces always gave her joy and excitement, well most of the time for sure. And even if she wanted to say hi to the new pridemate, she knew this wasn't the time for that. They were hunting, and quietness and focus was needed beyond anything else. If she talked she could scare away any prey. Maybe she could leave it for later. With that out of the way she arrived with a calm expression, hiding the discomfort left by Adalwolf. Whom had been mean to her, which wasn't new. New in the way of being picked on by others. This was far from being the first time, yet it wasn't like she enjoyed it whenever it happened. Calmly the small lioness went to kneel, hiding between some bushes. Ready to jump or chase at anything. Waiting for any signs to start the hunt out.

Doomed indeed. Even as a newcomer to these swampy lands, even she could see the advantage the thick murk gave her paws over the more spindly, hooved legs of the zebra. It was built for drier, sturdier grounds and it showed through the frantic motions that lead up to its death.

Dobromira's inky cloak was splashed in cold mud from the chase but her limbs tingled with energy from the hunt and iron of blood on her tongue. This chase upon unfamiliar terrain was a novel experience to the hound, though no matter where she may be, there was something about the thrill of the chase that left her bristling in sharp-edged glee. Like all of her senses were focused and singing out at once in a cry that burned through generations past to reach her now; hunt, kill, chase.

But the hunting, chasing and killing was done, and she was returned to the meek beast that she had been molded to be.

These lions smelled of the mire and moved with much more confidence on the slick terrain, making them pridemates, making them surely ranked above where she currently was. So, Dobromira hung back from the kill. Whether they followed the same rules of feeding that she had grown up with or not, the hound would wait to touch her teeth to prey until it seemed the others were satisfied. If there was nothing left, she would try her luck again later.

Exit via stubbornly hanging back and waiting.

It's been a little while, she thinks, since a zebra had made the mistake of venturing into their gloomy territory only to end up tangled amidst slippery muck and murky pools. But there will always be beasts young and foolish enough to fall victim to the predators lurking in the shadows. As far as Myra is concerned, it was the striped equine's very purpose to fall beneath their claws here.

A job well done, all in all, especially considering that it was some of her more youthful pridemates that had come to participate (though Myra has long known that Caillen, at least, is more than capable). Though it's not the largest prize in the world, so the huntress is content to depart without taking anything from it, already planning to find something else for herself while she was out and about.

She offers Dobromira an approving nod as passes by, pausing momentarily with a raised eyebrow when she notes that the darker woman seemed to be waiting for something. "When you're done, take whatever remains to the cache." And with that little verbal nudge for the newcomer, Myra would disappear into the underbrush.

His ebony coat blends in well amidst the swamp's darkest shadows, the broad leaves of the undergrowth brushing lightly against his fur, the territory's bittersweet scent further masking his cologne beneath it. The zebra cannot claim to use its camouflage quite as well. The white fur between the inky stripes practically shines in the low light.

He's fast enough to cut off the beast's short-lived attempt at escape when the attack finally begins, darting out from the shadows to snap at the lanky legs, ducking his head away from the sharp, flailing hooves. It does not last long, once the rest of their claws and fangs descend upon it.

Unlike the hunt's initiator, Hubert has no qualms about digging in until his hunger was sated. He feels rather proud of his contribution, and his spirits are high when he finally departs, his tail raised high. He trusts the others will sort out the matter of actually adding to the cache.

He craned his neck as he felt the warmth of another lion near him, quickly able to recognize Hubert's small frame and turn his attention back to the zebra they hunted. Bruno stiffened slightly, his mind working to recalculate whatever was about to be said with the knowledge that his little brother would be witness to it. For reasons the prince could not place, he certainly did not want to be witnessed.

As they closed in on their prey, Bruno served as blunt force, in the end, to help take down the striped toy swiftly (and preferably without anyone getting kicked in the head). He sank his long fangs into its hide, reveling in the metallic warmth of a successful kill as he set about ripping into the thing with the others present. There was no denying a royal's place at a meal – Bruno intended to head up the table.

Once satiated, he straightened up to begin running his paw slowly over his pelt in a meager attempt at cleaning the scarlet red from his coat. This was when Bruno noticed that Dobromira hung back, her eyes boring into the ones that ate as she waited.

Interesting, indeed.

He only watched the woman for a few moments, his expression neutral, before turning to take his leave. Perhaps this was what the hound waited for.
