The arrival of more was set off by remarks and offers to play as bait, and Luther was ready to fulfill the same role if they were to take the famed thing down. He wondered how many more there were... and if soon they will be encroaching upon pride territories, disturbing the lions in their sleep and sentencing some of them to death.

As they began to form groups, Luther joined the distractors. The first signal was sent off and the group of bait began to run in different directions around the creature, proving useful in angering it forcing it to not pay attention to the danger that lurked nearby.

The second group came just in time to land their attacks, for Luther was already exhausted from running left and right, dodging that monster's onslaught. With the creature down, the hunt was successful and the Mire prince approached one of the tusks, observing it with piqued curiousity until deciding to use it as a chewing toy in order to sharpen his teeth. Once a legendary creature, now my dental floss.

Ah, well, that was interesting. Nephthys' eyes narrowed as a lioness walked up beside @Ronin, nudging him in a friendly fashion that she would have done if she had been trying to claim him out in public. She scowled and made a point to look anywhere else, happily pretending she wasn't furious -- though the target of her anger was undecided. Likely herself, but shh. It was all she could do to focus on the hunt at hand which, miraculously, ended in success. Nephthys took what she could to bring back to Ecrosia, not glancing one bit at Ronin as she turned to slip away.

Laveau shot a grateful look to her pride mates, especially Ludivine, who kept it off of the small Merle Lionesses hide, finally a pathway opened up, and she looked towards it, she could leave while the creature was distracted, but she wasn't a coward, and she would not spit in the faces of those that kept her safe. With all the speed she could muster up in her small, slender body, she took off like a bat out of hell before leaping up and scaling a few over hangs, then she waited for her moment.

With the beast distracted by Gauthier and Ludivine, Laveau saw her chance and leaped from the high rocky cliffside, and slammed right into the side of the overgrown hairball. Her claws sunk into it's hide as she gripped into it's skin so she didn't tumble to her death. Thanks to. The combined efforts of everyone, the beast fell not long after, and for a moment Laveaus heart stopped and her breath caught as she watched the ground come closer at a Fast speed.

She threw herself from the beast and landed, looking over to Ludivine with a grateful look before she walked. Closer and tore a chunk of it, big enough to share with someone.Then she turned and left, stubbed tail wagging.

Dio breathed a great sigh of relief as yet again one of these giant beasts fell to the lions. Maua thank you for this great feast that shall feed us through the cold. Winter was already waning but they'd all fair well not needing to jump to hunting so quickly in the spring. She stepped in towards the shoulders of the mammoth and ran her paw along the thick fur, claws carving a large portion free as she took some of the great pelt for herself. Mouth widened to grab some meat and then, prize slung over her shoulder, she is off.

The plan worked! As each lion and lioness took their positions, the mammoth went down. Keligan's claws and fangs worked on the animal as it fell. Fur from the mammoth flew off of it's body as he tore at the hairy creature. Life ceased and each predator took a piece of the prize. The beast decided to take his fill by tearing off a chunk of meat from the hindquarters. Nodding towards the others, he took his leave. He didn't know exactly where he was going to go make home yet but he would figure that out later. With the chunk of meat within his maw, he knew it was a well worth prize that could keep his sustained for a while.

Gauthier held strong as the beast swung and flailed, deafened by the pitch of its groans and trumpeting, blinded by blood and its wooly hide. His hind legs strained with the tossing like driftwood out to a storm, claws digging, teeth ripping. Cleaving piece by piece through the tufts of fur, the feat tested the strength of his entire body as he clung tight, dredging deep into the throat of the beast.

It seems like ages before the behemoth succumbed to exhaustion and blood loss at the claws and teeth of its many hungry foes. It swayed like an ancient mossy tree pulled from its roots, a haunting moan ripped from its monstrous tusked mouth before it toppled. Feeling the sudden quake of the leviathan's sway, Gauthier was quick to clamber up its meaty neck, bathed red in its silken gore. He held a last stand dug into its skull as it collapsed into a cloud of dust.

In the end at its stillness, his muscles tremored with the remembered strain, lingering over the herculean cadaver as the adrenaline tapered into the pounding of his pulse and the deep, cold breaths that swelled his lungs. He'd certainly be sore on the morrow - but it was worth the lives of his pridemates and the sizable remains he'd scavenge to drag back to the cache.

Slipping down from the mountainous colossus, he gathered his breaths and lapped the thick, luscious blood that pooled at the edges of his mouth. Power, a taste divine, to dine on the ichor of such a godly creature - he savored the taste, felt his own veins stir with the heat of its greatness. Above, though the clouds passed and hid the beauty of the sky, he knew that his actions were watched, worthy to be a piece of its history. And he closed his eyes as he felt the wind drag its chill across weary flesh, a soothing howl of victory riding its gale.

He was brought to with Ludivine's touch - his expression contorted for a moment of barbaric jolt, confused by the warmth of her breath and the tender touch of her nose. And when she took away to seize her pounds of flesh, the sensation still remained like heat bloomed and tangled through meat, bone, marrow. He watched her snatch a chunk of the mammoth and retreat to devour deservedly, those spindling vines of wonder encroaching on hunger, craving. And though it may not have been the cure - he turned its barbed desire on cutting his own slice of the mammoth, teeth bared to any who came close.

Before she can fully register what's happening, several lions are already bearing down on the beast from all sides. Not how she expected her day to go, but it wouldn't be the first time she played things by ear. Emboldened by the presence of her pridemates, she allows herself to slide off the crater, tentatively at first, then breaking into a run. It is a dangerous endeavor, but she can only hope the others are close behind.

In a great leap she closes the distance between herself and the quarry. The fall has her feeling like her insides are climbing up her torso, but she just barely makes it. Landing (slightly painfully) on its back, she wastes no time mooring her claws deep into its thick hide for stability before she tries to gnaw her way to its spinal cord.

It must be the one of the more thrilling hunts she's been in, and when she feels the mammoth's legs buckle, she knows it's finally over. She carefully meanders her way down its back onto firm ground, relieved the long battle is finally over. Feeling weak and clammy with exertion, she takes a few moments to catch her breath before deigning to dig in. Many lions fill in.

Too many.

A half-hearted hiss is sent towards those who wander too close before she returns to her neglected herbs. She scans the soil in search of her flower: very little herbs grow here, so it doesn't take her long to pick out the purple among the featureless rock and dirt. She digs out a couple more, swoops them all up, and meanders her way back to the jungle.

She couldn't help it as she gave an eyeroll to the young lion's words of allowing the men to distract while the women moved in to make the kill. But Artemisia would rather they be the ones to meet sharp tusks if anything were to turn sour. So instead would she give a curt nod, and soon enough the hunt would be underway. She would crouch and wait as those that wished to distract made their moves, and once she found the sweet spot in time and movement would the lioness spring forth.

With a snarl would she hook her claws into the tough hide, jaws snapping at whatever vitals she was closest to. She could feel the coarseness of the fur in her mouth, a rather unfavorable taste. It all seemed to become a blur, but in the end all the lions that had gathered would become victorious. It was an incredible win, and for a moment Artemisia's mind could not wrap around the fact that she had taken down a creature that was said to be extinct. The overwhelming sense of pride would swell in her chest, her eyes glancing towards the others with a satisfied grin on bloody lips. She would waste very little time, though, to enjoy the feast, digging in and taking as much as her mouth could carry. And then she would slip away to find somewhere safe and secluded to enjoy the spoils of their victory.

and then there was the disassembly.

it was almost like an art, this process. he didn't like it though. twisting, pulling - and not a little tug, either. beetle was made to clamp his jaws tight and heave his entire body backwards to hear the necessary snaps. he let the others chew through skin and sinew themselves, though. germs or whatever.

there was meat enough at home from the other two monsters. but a tusk could provide support for a shelter, once the marrow was gone.

he held tightly with his newfound strength, and got to work.

The trembling of the earth made the scraggly plant she had been eying tremble, and she held her breath for a solid moment- as she looked around her. The last few leaves of the tall fading dark green plant fell from it, and she shook her head in distaste at the waste- as she turned away from that to study the danger that the tremble announced.

The beast that had evidently produced it was massive and hairy, something she had never seen before in her life and in all of her travels, and it sent a quiver of unmistakable fear through her. The tusks on the creature looked like they could easily pierce through a small lion if they managed to catch them incorrectly, and she definitely didn't want to land on the business end of that.

As more and more lions gathered, she joined them, and fell into step alongside her pride-mates and strangers as they all ruthlessly went after the mammoth and took the beast down. Somehow, they all managed to escape it rather unscathed... and she breathed out a sigh of relief, as she waited her turn to take a hunk of meat for herself before she would take her leave.
