Hmm. Well, that was something you didn't see every day. Myra can't claim to be familiar with the placement of every rock that happens to lie in the swamp, but there is something suspicious about the gray lumps poking out of that particular mud puddle. Rounded curves that looked like ears, sloped ridges that looked like shoulders and a spine...a pair of thin, whip-like tails that occasionally flicked out from the mud, a brief flash of movement that did not escape the huntress's notice.

The little things must have thought themselves clever. A shame that she would have to burst their bubble.

Since the young beasts didn't seem like they planned to move anytime soon, the golden woman would settle herself within the grasses some distance away, letting out a series of low chuffs to gather her pridemates to her. It seemed that they were due for a decent feast today - a pair of rhino calves was an exceedingly good prize for the dead of winter.

Astarte lowered her head as Myra investigated the rock like things that had just appeared in the Mires mud, she stalked around, circling, eyes warily watching, uneasy about it. That was until she spotted the tails flicking gently, and she perked her ears, she was still eyed the new prey warily, rhinos were dangerous, even baby rhinos could be, or an angry mother, her eyes glanced towards the foliage, before she shrugged and looked at at Myra.

She would wait for her call, the crimson lioness settled amongst the tall weeds and swamp grass, her eyes focusing on the pair of gray boulder like babes, clever little things, but not clever enough. She heard Myra's low chuffs, soon more of her pride mates would appear, the call of a feast would be too enticing.

@Myra's call to hunt was a welcome distraction from the humdrum of Slaine's daily routine and the lingering, persistent thoughts of Ronin that squeezed her heart more often than she would admit.

The Scot moved slowly, allowing each of her feet to caress the newly hardened earth silently as she came up behind the golden hunter. Whiskers twitched with interest, wondering what Myra had found today.

Sapphire eyes glanced ahead of the noble and spotted the two gray rock like lumps protruding out from the water's surface. An oddity indeed, as the sovereign did not at first see the beasts for what they were. Only the swing of a tail informed her of the prize that was within their grasp.

Without a word, the blue lioness moved off to the right, calmly and methodically setting herself up for the hunt ahead.

It was woman's work, wasn't it? Bruno mulled over this fact as he lurked within the mire greenery nearby, unease churning within him as he drank in the scent of the rhinos. It was woman's work, and yet, there did not seem to be enough women there to do their job. He could practically hear Alaric's voice in the back of his head lecturing on about the responsibilities of a royal as he imagined that his father would not be too pleased if the rhino calves got away. With a begrudging sneer, he stalked forward to start his pursuit.

He attempted to take up a position relative to the few others stalking nearby, mentally noting Slaine's presence and noting that it was too late for him to back out. Bruno would hate to have anyone reporting back to his father, after all. Rolling his shoulders forward, the teen prepared himself for the chase that was about to ensue.

He hasn't forgotten Vater's words of advice, that becoming skilled at hunting would be the first step to becoming skilled at everything else - or something along those lines. In any case, Hubert is beginning to grow bored of just watching everyone else work from the shadows. He wants some of the excitement for himself too. And though it is, at first, difficult for him to make out what was so fascinating about the pair of rocks that the lionesses (plus a certain half-brother of his) were gathering around, the telltale flick of a tail was enough for him to make a decision.

Thick-hided beasts like these would make for an impressive prize for a first hunt, wouldn't they? Vater would surely be pleased if he contributed to bringing them down.

The slender boy would slink his way out of the shadows of the swamp, his ebony pelt smeared with enough mud to cover his scent. (Could those things even smell? Eh. It wasn't like this wasn't his default appearance anyway.) He stalks his way into a position that seems appropriate (sending @Bruno a challenging smirk as passed by), mimicking the patterns and behaviors he's seen the hunters use before. Gleaming claws flex deeply into the mud as the Prince crouches low, tail tip twitching behind him in anticipation.

This should be fun.

Carina had not come to enjoy the Mire as much as she had hoped she would. The scenery wasn't all that grand and she wasn't having a whole lot of luck connecting with her peers. Not that she had truly expected anything more than what she was given. After all, she struggled with their common tongue and it likely seemed to turn everyone in the opposite direction. Tiamat was doing a nice job at teaching her but it was a long road and she was happy to play the unexpected yearling within the group of Ecrosian's. Lingering at the hunts edge and waiting for her cue to help where she could.

Wandering through the slick of the mud and giving a gentle noise to alert anyone who cared that she was here. Keeping herself relatively hidden as she had eyed the calves in quiet hunger. Longing to get a good rip out of one of them to satiate a hunger that had been growing in size since the second that she had woken up that morning. Surely just a single taste of one of them would soothe her appetite but even then she could always find something to finish it off so as not to steal from her pride mates. That wouldn't be very nice of her, would it?

As soon as they had finished off what they had been chasing, Zelda took to hovering where she had been when it fell. Vision staring directly down into the mud of home as she struggled to catch her breath. All she knew was that there was a patch of mossy goodness somewhere within Ecrosia that had sunlight all over it and was calling her name. Nothing was better after a hunt than doing absolutely nothing. Not that she intended to tell her pride mates that this was a one-and-done kind of situation. Doing what she could to appear helpful and open to instruction should anyone directly ask her to help with something, she took her leave as soon as she was able. exit zelda
