Dusk was approaching, and the blanket of humidity that had lingered through the day had receded a bit, allowing a shifting breeze to whisk away residual heat collected in the heavy mane of the ranger and serve him the scent of opportunity as well. Leg healed and belly empty, the promise of dinner is enough to lift the titan from his place on the earth and set a smooth pace across the prairie.

The circumstances were ideal; failing light offered long shadows to cover his silhouette, and with the heat easing, the lion felt rejuvenated and prepared for the excursion of a potential hunt. The scent trail of the quarry grew stronger, mingling with the earth and metal aroma of a watering hole, and the lion would shift into a crouch as he approached – mindful to keep his steps quiet and head low beneath the grasses. Claret irises would slide over his peripherals, checking to see it was necessary to take other predators into consideration before he would return his focus to the prey that awaited its potential doom.

Zelda was carefully and concise as she rolled ever so slightly upon a large boulder. Sunbathing in the midst of the dying afternoon light and delighting in the warmth written upon her stomach in gold ink. The sun's rays did well to make her feel as though her whole body was riddled with flames and she certainly delighted in it all. Maneuvering herself carefully to roll slightly so that another less warm part of her body could get the last of the sun's rays before opening her eyes and zeroing in on a dark figure.

The posture that he wore was enough to indicate that he was hunting something so Zelda mentally shrugged and removed herself from her perch. Angling her body carefully and with a full stretch before moving towards him, nose lowering to the ground as she attempted to catch the scent of whatever it was he had found. Tracks leading along the shoreline of the pond as she continued to follow its pathway until eventually she could either continue following the prey's trail or move towards @Marius. Despite how little she cared for the opinions of a stranger, she knows that it would do her no good to chase after the prey on her own and take it from them.

So she moves off towards the dark figure but continues to track the beast through the scent it leaves on the wind. Eyes glancing over at the dark male every now and then as if waiting for him to give a signal.

He casually walks alongside the water, close enough to observe every feather on the bodies of the flamingoes fringing the pond. But it's not the birds he's after; he's looking for anything that's worth relaying back to the pride. So far, though, it's mostly been pink, pesky birds, and not much else. They're chorusing tirelessly, and he's briefly reminded of the equally noisy rainforest. It's not long before he notices @Marius and @Zelda, one of which he recognizes, while the other had, unbeknownst to Ambrose, been concealed in a tree the last time they were in close proximity of each other. Seeing the large male half-hidden in the grass, he decides to tail him too, curious to see where he will lead them this time.

she cannot deny the appeal of a hunt, even though it pulls her away from her exercising. she comes to a halt, from the boulder she had been pushing, as familiar scents filter by on the wind- that of @Ambrose and of @Zelda and that of prey. as she joins them, she sees a male she does not recognize but she merely offers him a nod, and ambrose a friendly chuff of greeting- as she approaches zelda. "long time no see," she greets with a grin, before she looks to the stranger. it was his hunt, and his shots to call- but she would lend a paw or four.

she lopes through the fields, unworried about anything- uncaring really of any potential dangers she may encounter. helah isn't one to really think of such things, and perhaps it is her arrogance that feeds into her belief that she is the most dangerous creature in the world. is it true? she thinks so. the running pace she has set for herself, is good for practicing her speed and her strength- so that she can keep up her endurance.

when she scents the small gathering of lions and lionesses, she saunters towards them- not really interesting in working for her food, but... she can't deny that she does enjoy flirting with strangers and flaunting her muscles- and hunting down prey is a good way to practice her speed.

strolling past to the group, she comes up to one of the males- a younger looking one - @Ambrose and bats he eyes at him in a flirtatious manner- before smiling coyly at a gray lioness @Zelda , and then... she grins and speaks sweetly to the male they all seemed to be looking at... @Marius - "well hello handsome," she trills, joining the group with no other looks- other than a flirty grin to the other lioness present- the wheaten colored female.

She spends some time claw-sharpening on a nearby tree. After her latest bout of sparring, Uma had set off directly to Celosia, its yellow grasses and many-colored flowers a familiar sight by now. Seeking to improve her strength, she's mastering the valley's undulating hills; up one hill and down another she goes, not stopping for anything. It's a rough terrain, and her limbs are screaming for relief, but it's a welcome pain. She lets it flow through her, knowing her muscles are responding-- getting stronger. The wind carries a familiar scent to her then, and now she finally does take pause, regaining her breath for a moment before following it to its source.

The grasses surrounding the pond are flecked with many a flower; little bursts of color half-glimpsed in the green. They catch her eye easily, and she can't help but stop each time she sees one she doesn't recognize. Their properties interest her greatly, and she ends up digging some out of the soil with a single claw, and collecting them between her jaws. She's all but forgotten about the world around her when she sees something move in her peripheral. Her head snaps up, a petal twisting to the ground. Not something. Somethings. Quickly, she drops the herbs she accumulated and uses both front legs to bundle them into a freshly-dug rabbit hole. She'll come back for them after. She joins the group with an eager flick of the tail, her voice dropping to a lower register to avoid alarming the prey. "Let's do ziss, lions."

His survey had caught upon the silhouettes of others – first a lioness, who seemed to have been taken by the scent of their quarry just as he had; it was wise for them to join forces considering the challenge that lay ahead, and he would offer @Zelda a brusque nod of comradery should she glance his way. There was a familiar male – the chatty one, Marius had marked him silently from their previous hunt together, although the unnamed lion was hardly such at the moment so perhaps that was an unfair judgement. Marius did not have time to contemplate philosophy and opinion however, as other familiar faces joined them, the roaming hunters of this continent, he supposed and his gaze slid to @Helah ♔ with piqued interest as he caught the scent of Wolfbron on her coat. “Let us hunt, shall we?” Baritone rumbles quietly, claret gems fixed to her while his voice lifted only just enough for the others to hear. It was only then he noticed @Uma, the alabaster of her fur catching his eye – she says nothing to him, seeming determined to maintain her focus on the hunt and the ranger could hardly pause their party to strike up a conversation. Not that he wasn’t tempted to do so.

His gaze returns to the lone hippopotamus calf that had inspired their group, and the titan would stalk low in the grasses of the prairie – focused and intent and waited for the perfect opportunity to strike.

Between their efforts, the calf was felled and Marius would tug and pull and drag at its heavy carcass – ideally alongside the others, the thing was quite heavy – until it was safely away from the waters edge. Only then would he step aside for dual purpose, catching his breath as he surveyed the prairie and watering hole, keeping an eye out for any angry hippo parent or intrusive predator that might want a piece for themselves. Should nothing else be said, the ranger would then take a portion of the kill and make his way back into the prairie to dine on their prize. Exit.

Soon, they're joined by Uma and Ghyslaine, and he regards them familiarly. Another Wolfbron lion joins the party, a silver lioness, with pointy ears that sooner remind him of a lynx than a lion. She bats a set of beautiful, pink eyes at him, and he can't help but smile at her stupidly. How cute. Soon, however, she extends her attention to the others, and Ambrose looks on, decidedly befuddled. Oh. He thought he was special!

Marius' baritone brings his attention back to the task at hand, and he crouches down, eyes on the quarry. His gaze is split between Marius and the calf, regarding the latter impatiently. The large lion waits for a while, possibly seeking the opportune moment, and then, finally, goes crashing through the grasses towards it. Ambrose follows him out of the tall grasses and into plain sight, and for such a young creature, the calf puts up a surprisingly good fight.

He can't really find a sweet spot for it, except maybe its face, but somehow, they manage to tear through its thick hide and take it down. But their work isn't done yet: he helps the crimson-maned man drag the carcass away from the water's edge, and for a second there, dark spots are appearing in his vision from the sheer effort. God, that's a heavy baby. Exhausted, he crashes down onto his rump to catch his breath, muscles burning from the unanticipated workout.

When he's ready, he gets back to his feet and tears off a juicy front leg with some effort. "You guys are pretty good. Until next time." He lopes off, the leg a grotesque trophy as he disappears into the bush.
