The winds were changing. Tomas was not sure in what direction they were moving, but he was certain that there was change on the horizon. Personal or natural, though, was questionable. It was early morning and Tomas rose from his slumber a little earlier than his other siblings, like he always does. A lion who had become accustomed to quite a routine, the strawberry child slipped out of the den and, with a stretch and a yawn, began his daily walk around Obsidian.
With the recent storms and violent weather that Amaryllis had been experiencing, Tomas had a growing concern in his chest that had been eating away at him: What if another one of his siblings were to get lost, injured, or killed? He didn't want someone else taking away from him too soon. A heavy sigh slipped passed his lips before a crack and a physical rumble brought the boy to a halt. Lavender eyes rapidly and frantically scan the surrounding tunnel, his pointed ears swivelling in a bid to find where the sound had come from. Eventually he pinpoints an area in front of him a little further on, and so the boy (without even thinking), puts one paw in front of the other and went to investigate. When he arrived, the Casales child discovered a large hole that had formed in the center of the pathway, preventing him from going any further into the Hollow. A frown formed on his features as he looked up at the surrounding walls, studying them carefully as loose sediment slipped from the roof. There was an internal concern that Obsidian would become a place too dangerous to live, and that he and his family would once again be forced to go elsewhere.

After losing Amandil to wherever the mist had taken him, Jafar had become increasingly less hard on his remaining children. Not entirely, of course, as he still wished to set them a fine example of how to behave in this world but he wasn't as aggressive about it. In the very least he wanted to provide a strong front for all of them. To be able to put forth the correct strengths so that they could see life without fear.
Today, @Tomas and himself shared the same fear. That Obsidian would crumble and impact their daily life. Jafar had no true inclination to retake a throne any time soon as he was more interested in focusing on his children and his love for Maia. Wanting nothing more than to strengthen his relationship with each one of them while also trying to keep himself occupied and helpful to Roan and Faelyn during this time.
Slipping away he caught sight of his strangely strawberry son. Following after him without hesitation and spectating the boy as he took note of his surroundings. While Tomas might be small, he at least was smart enough to know to be careful.

It is as though our Hollow trembles with fear,he comments as he strolls out of the darkness of a nearby path. Slowly coming to stand at his son's flank and slowly turning his head downwards to see and hear the boy's response.

The relationship Tomas had with his family had been questionable as of late. Amandil's disappearance had been heavy on the strawberry child, and he'd felt disconnected ever since. His lavender eyes study the walls as they tremble, and he quietly watches as sediment falls from the ceiling at its own free will. There is concern laced across the boy's features, unsure of what might have caused this change. Was it his fault? He wasn't sure.
But before he could delve further and search for answers, @Jafar came up by his side. The boy looked up at his father and, with a solemn nod, agreed with what he had to say.

Do you think it is angry at us?He asks, almost naively, not sure what other reason there was to give for the sudden change to the land they called home.

At us?he repeats, purposefully setting his face to show that he was contemplating and considering the scenario. A few seconds was all it took before he shook his head.
I don't believe that it is angry at us. All of Amaryllis has been quite different by means of its environment and weather.A pause as he takes a seat, ignoring the rumbling of the Hollow but keeping his ears alert for any close changes.
Prey is either scarce or outside of their normal and the weather, well... it's not one to be messed with.Shaking from the mountains, thunderstorms in other areas, floods and poisonous algae. There was too much going on in any territory you went to but when it came down to it, he only worried for the Hollow's and what it could potentially do to his family and his pride mates.
We must not fear too much. If we do, we must hone it so that we can help others with theirs.Jafar wanted @Tomas to know that fear could also be good. It could hone itself and make you that much braver, sometimes. An ability that could help the strawberry boy to protect someone who might need their life saved.

His eyes remain fixed on the figure of his father for some reassurance and confidence from him that things were going to be okay, and that he wasn't going to be impaled by a falling piece of rock. But @Jafar's shaking head confirmed to Tomas that the land, or Obsidian, was angry at them. Jafar has a perfectly reasonable explanation as to what had happened to their home and, the rest of Amaryllis.

Why are these things happening? He asks, more curious than anything else. But his father spoke of honing the fear to help others, and he nodded.
I want to help others if I can.He comments, looking around as the Hollow's continued to rumble.

The trembles and shakes were alarming, he could address that much. Tiny rocks occasionally falling from the ceiling in various places but where they stood remained safe. For now, at least. At the slightest hint of a disturbance, he'd be quick to usher @Tomas out of the tunnels.
Too many tunnels had been taken out in the Hollows and Jafar had done whatever he could to help break up the rocks that had closed them off or found new ways to get in or out. Regardless, nature was making a new map of Obsidian and they were going to have to make due.

That is an answer I do not have.Plain and simple, despite the fact that he valued the knowledge that he was able to give to his children but this was not a time that he knew why or how these things had come about. Only that they had to be vigilant and prepared to do what was necessary. To know when to hide and when to fight.

There are many ways to help another,he clarifies to his boy as he rolls his claws against the ground beneath them,
you can defend them in battle, you can heal those who have been in battle. You can take care of young cubs for new mothers or you could feed the pride as a hunter. What interests you?Regardless of what rumbling around them, he was curious to know what his smallest son had in mind when it came to wishing to help others.

Despite the alarming nature of the rocks and debris that seemed to fall from all angles of Obsidian, there was something about them that Tomas found fascinating. Lavender eyes watch some loose debris fall above them, eyes tracking it as it fell through the air and landed a few paces away from them both with a slight crackle and echo.
@Jafar states that there are many ways to help another, and Tomas listens intently to the varying ways. Eventually a question was planted on the end, but truthfully, Tomas didn't know.

I think it's interesting,He remarks quietly, out of the blue.
How things shift and change at a moment's notice. It was fascinating to the strawberry child how he - and others - had no control over the demands and wishes of Mother Nature.

I'm not sure. Maybe I could defend lions in battle, or... learn the way the land lies? I'm not sure if I would be very good at either of those, though. He remarks with a slight sigh and a twitch of an ear. Behind them, more rocks and debris continued to unsettle, echoing through the caverns.

The two of them sitting within the tunnels of Obsidian like simba and mufasa on top of pride rock gazing into the sunset, Jafar feels comfortable even through the tremors. @Tomas is not entirely unlike him and sees that there can be some good even when someone else only sees darkness and evil. That despite the shakes and quivering of the land, that something good could still come out of it.

Nature can be quite finnicky sometimes. How easily our futures, both near and far, can be altered with just one single event.A wise slew of words given to his young son as he was coming into his own as an adult. Not quite the most adult as he still had a year but he was at least able to begin taking his own life and figuring out what he wanted from it.
You could be a paladin, to save others that need saving. That was the opposite of what he did, obviously, but truth was that he didn't mind what any of his children wanted to do so long as they enjoyed it. Brownie points if they were good at it, obviously, but enjoying it was half the battle.
Pathfinder, then? Not a bad choice. They typically route out the best ways of travel through territories and are very good at discerning future weather patterns.Though, what happened here couldn't have been prevented but it could have been predicted.

There was something about spending time in his father's company that Tomas found comforting. It felt good to be able to have some quality time with him without having to fight between Sedona and Thrain, who seemed to be his particular favourite. Tomas would grow up to be quite the solemn man, kind but calculating in his actions.
Tomas nodded at his father's suggestions.

Has nature impacted you before?Tomas asks, curious whether Jafar had ever experienced anything like this before in his older years. Maybe these events would become an annual thing, and each year they would all have to battle through the elements.
Tomas nodded at his father's suggestions.
I think that would be good,He remarks, looking down at his paws briefly before arching his neck to look up at his father.
Could I change them if I'm not very good at them?He asks, just as a large piece of rock seems to fall from the roof and shatter in front of them. Tomas rises back to his feet and steps forward toward the shattered rock, climbing over it to discover a new pathway that had collapsed through because of the rock.
Hey, look!He calls over to Jafar with a grin.

Bright purple eyes never seemed to waver from the falling rocks that scattered around them and echoed in the halls. Vividly listening to anything that might upset their location in a more permanent sense but so far, everything seemed eerily quiet aside from the occasional light quaking.
Thankfully, @Tomas was a good tether and happy to think about trades which was a good buffer for his own fumbling emotions that burned inside him.
Shoulders shift as his rear lifts off the ground as a rock falls and creates a chorus of sound around them. As soon as he's realized that there is little danger his body looses while his son was grinning from what had now been discovered.

It has, yes.The thought triggered the memory and it took a lot longer to continue his reply than he would've liked. It wasn't particularly harrowing to him specifically as it had happened long enough ago to not but it had left a mark.
Back before you were born and before your mother and I truly knew each other, there was a flood in Ecrosia. The picture was vivid in his mind and he could feel his heart that had raced with fear and panic as he'd seen Maia get washed away.
Your mother was swept up in the floods and me and another member, who was it? Was it Roan? Jafar believed it to be Roan but couldn't quite remember who it had been,
made the move to save her. To rescue her.He swallowed and took a deep breath.
The flood took the life of one of Roan's brother, Kiton. He was our High Sovereign back then and one who I had pledged my loyalty to.Jafar would've done anything for the Hodari's then as he would now, but through time it had become more and more obvious that his electric connection was to Maia.
Thankfully, @Tomas was a good tether and happy to think about trades which was a good buffer for his own fumbling emotions that burned inside him.
You can, but it is a big decision. One that you should think on further. Don't rush into choosing. He had plenty of time to figure out what it was he wanted to do in life and if he wanted to do many things, Jafar would support him. Tomas would find what he wanted, of this he could be certain.

Looks like we're being offered a way out,he looks down to his strangely colored strawberry son,
should we take it?He was the maybe-pathfinder so he should make the call. Assuming that Tomas did in fact want to take the risk, Jafar followed after the boy carefully and was on alert should anything further shift around them. The last thing he needed was his small son made even smaller.
