It started as a rumble and grew into a roar.

The bluffs, he knew, were inherently dangerous. It was part of what had drawn him to the territory to begin with. Treacherous paths, loose stones, one wrong step could send you tumbling, broken, to the lands below. It was thrilling, never quite knowing when the stone below would erode to the point a previously safe trail became deadly.

What was less expected was the sudden cacophony of several tons of snow and rock dislodging without warning.

Those nearby might have been able to hear a slightly-manic cackle of 'Fuuuuuuuucck!' echo through the air, as Ryker scrambled to find some form of safety. Followed by a quickly repeated litany of the same curse as the man found himself racing the reaper in a far more literal sense than he'd hoped so soon in life.

He threw himself, rather unceremoniously, into the first open cavern with no thought given to checking whether it was occupied or not. He skidded and turned, and ended up ungracefully rolling to a halt - helped along by a slight collision with the rear wall - as a curtain of white fell over the entrance, soon plunging the space into near-pitch dark with the depth of the snow outside. With a groan, he pulled himself to his feet, only to sit back down upon realizing his predicament. "Ah....fuck." Still sounded like things were shifting and crashing out there.

Charax

Charax was instinctively good at reading terrain. It was her greatest purpose in life. Understanding the rise and fall of the earth, or why mother nature did what she did. What she had yet to determine was what had caused such relentless assaults of natural disaster in the recent days - or even, why the mist had been what it was. She was quickly coming to realise that not everything could be understood, and that was unsettling.

Still, the woman had felt the deepest need to stay away from the slopes; instead resting in the lower branches of sturdy trees. She spent a lot of the day with an eye cast curiously to the peaks, watching as the rocks shifted and the snow fell. Now, she can see the dark form of @Ryker in the near distance, and she is not half surprised that his presence causes the downpour of an avalanche.

Rising to her feet, she watched, pulse quickening as the male darted down the banks and disappeared into the mouth of a cavern moments before the ice covered the entrance. Her ears pinned, lithe bodice dropping back to the earth with a hasty thud, physique slinking with cautious urgency across soft embankments.

She would chuff, repeatedly, whiskers flared; hoping the lion would reveal his location so she could... help?

Once things sounded a little more calm outside, he pulled himself to his feet with a grunt. If he was going to die, it wouldn't be from starvation waiting in a cave for someone to come dig him out. If he was gonna go down in an avalanche, it would be while trying to get out.

"HELLO? HEY! ANYONE OUT THERE?" He clawed at the wall of snow, shoveling paw-fulls to either side. Ryker figured he could probably get out on his own, after a while, but if there was someone out there on the other side, he wouldn't reject a little effort on their part. Not that he had any idea if anyone could even hear him.

Maybe, after this, he'd take a little break from pushing himself to test the most dangerous paths of the bluffs. There were other places in the lowlands he could train, where he was far less likely to become a battered broken thing tumbling down the mountainside. His eventual death was supposed to be a spectacle, not the consequence of bad luck and a little natural disaster.

Charax

The placement of her paws are calculated, her senses trained to the soft earth beneath her; vision scanning the freshly covered mountain for further risks. It had seemed the dark male had disturbed the abnormally wet slopes, and though she would have to be careful, the Bluffs seemed settled... for now.

She could hear him, but barely. Through her knowledge of the earth and her instinct, she manages to pin-point a location within the snowy embankment. With great caution she chose the safest place to dig - undoubtedly a bit of a guestimate. "I'm digging," she called back to @Ryker, unsure if he'd hear through the seamless blanket of white. A slow, anxious momentum of her forelimbs beginning the rescue mission.

It was frustrating, because this kind of weather wasn't supposed to persist into the warmer months. Sure, the bluffs were cooler than the rest of the lands, due to altitude, but this much snow this late in the season was weird, wasn't it?

He thought he heard someone outside, though it was muffled. He'd choose to believe someone else was digging in from the other side and they'd meet in the middle or something.

Pushing, digging, clawing, he worked with steady determination. Panic could kill, and he didn't believe the snow was so deep he couldn't make a way out before he succumbed to something stupid like hunger.

After several moments, he noticed lightening of the snow - or, more precisely, more light coming in through the snow. Another moment or two and @Charax would be treated to the sight of his nose popping through the wall of white with a determined huff. "Fuckin' mountain." The rest of his head followed soon after and Ryker squinted in the light. Her dark color was easy to spot against the pale backdrop, "Hey! Over here!" Still needed a wider hole to drag the rest of his body out, but at least he knew how far he'd have to dig now. And it'd go a lot faster with some help.

Amara wasn't pleased with the new weather that was settling over the Bluff's. Just like the mist, it wasn't something she could control at all and she struggled with that a great deal. Enemies were one thing, she was able to target them but snow and this much of it wasn't something she was keen on at all. The ground shook under her and a loud rushing sound caught her attention on the far side of the land. She watched as snow rushed toward the lower parts of the island unable to do anything to stop its path. She hadn't seen things like this before here. In the old lands it happened every so often on the mountains that were capped with snow but the Bluffs weren't like that. Once it seemed that it had passed, she made her way closer to make sure that everyone was ok. She heard @Charax talking and saying she was digging. She moved quickly to her side and started to dig along side her without any question as to why or who they were getting. Charax

For some time if felt the woman was fighting an uphill battle, as the snow would loosen and cover the hole she had created. Eventually however, she is joined by @Amara, and silently the pair manage to make some ground - peeling the snow away bit by bit until it thinned enough to hear @Ryker inside.

Overhead, the sky still rumbled, threatening another flurry of ice and snow. Through the effort of the dark male inside, combined with the two lionesses, it wasn't all too long before they had managed to scrape the snow away to reveal the white-faced lion within.

"Are you hurt?" she asked, relatively soft in tone given the potential gravity of the situation; tense, she eyed him, backing away from the break in the ice in case he wanted to get out.

Oh, hey, @Amara was here, too.

The marbled girl was questioning him, and Ryker frowned. "Little pissed off, but fine." It had been exciting in the moment, racing for his life, but now it was just annoying to be trapped in the cave. He supposed he would have eventually dug himself out, but having someone working from the opposite side really sped things up.

He pulled his head backward out of the hole, to give space for his paws to work. After another few minutes he wormed his front half through, and pulled his rear end free afterward, shaking himself off as he straightened. There was a slightly sore spot on his back from his light collision with the rear of the cave, but it wasn't anything that would linger more than a day. "Dying in a frozen cave's not the way I'd planned to go out. What the fuck's up with the weather?" Snow was supposed to be gone by now, even here, right?

The sounds of the pair clawing at the earth surrounded them as they worked together. His scent slips out and she knows that @Ryker had gotten caught under the collapse. The new noble seemed to be testing the limits of the lands. Her ears folded back as the skies above them threatened to continue showing them the strange weather they were having. She wasn't keen on remaining in an area with unstable ground longer than they needed to. Finally, they got enough moved that Ryker could work his way out. @Charax questioned his well-being and Amara gave him a look over to make sure he wasn't bleeding or anything too badly. His question was one that had been circling in her mind since all this started. No clue but clearly these lands aren't as stable as we all thought when we first came here. She had hoped for a place that would be like the lands they had been in before but that didn't seem to be the case here. They had been tricked into thinking that things were going to be great and wonderful but nope. The lands just kept trying to kill them and the lions that were around were far worse than those in the Valley before.

Eventually the hole is large enough for @Ryker to sneak through, and the marbled lioness stood back to allow him ample room. She didn't know the male particularly well, and made a mental note to try and cross paths with him again soon. If not just to... test the waters a little, get some idea of who he was.

She nodded simplistically as he confirmed he was okay, her vision again cast skywards as a menacing breath of wind rolled down the peaks. "The wind will pick up in an hour or two," she could sense the low weather system approaching from the ocean again, "We need to move out."

And with the information offered, the woman sought to dip her head politely to @Amara and ease her way carefully back down the slope.
