She'd ceased hunting for the pride once Drakon had been overthrown, but now that she was in this new place she supposed she ought to at least pretend to be useful. While she much preferred offering her services of "poisoning your enemies", collecting food was generally considered much more useful. Unfortunately.

Naturally, she wasn't inclined to go out and start hunting parties, but when she spotted a prime target taking a nap on their territory she was quick to look for others to come join her. Sure, she could try and take it down on her own, but if she succeeded and there was no one around to see and give her credit then what was the point?

XVIII     the moon ☾

she was not the first to arrive, and for that, aidoneus felt gladdened. the huntress slipped along side @Arcandia, a slow languid motion moved her to the woman's left. her pale lips strewn wide in a welcoming grin as she paused. her eyes left her newfound hunting companion and went in search of their dozing quarry. a hunger for the chase thumped at her heart, and already the adrenaline for what was to come throttled through her veins. she was adept at this, she thrived in it; she breathed in the chaos and satiated her hungers on the act over the prey. her mouth ran quick, wetted at the burgeoning elation she'd felt bloom. her tail lashed at her hindquarters as she situated herself better for the hunt. she'd glance about next, also seeking the faces of those who'd lend a helping hand at filling their food stores.

A hunter he was not but still he did his part when it was needed of him. The desert was his home. It was the life he knew best. He knew that everyone was needed in order to ensure survival whether or not it was their main trade focus. The desert made you work for it. It was what Iofiel knew.

A silent nod was given to the two lionesses that had already gathered there. More new members. Or perhaps they were older ones. He wasn't certain either way as he wasn't the most social of lions. It was plants that got more of his attention than lions did. The lions mostly got his attention when he was treating them.

Crimson eyes searched the horizon for their prey. He didn't notice it at first. But there it was, a dark spot in the sand. It was small and there wouldn't be enough left for the cache. But in the desert every little bit would help. It also meant another hunt would be needed.

'fieeel! diantha squeals as she half-tackles the man's rump in her hope to surprise him. yes, she knows there is a hunt going on, but little diantha, with her chubby rolls and fat legs, couldn't keep it to herself. after her attempt at a tackle, she moves around to @Iofiel's front and plops herself down between his paws. can i help? she asks him, mindful of the fact that adults are nicer if she asks first. not like she would be able to help. but the prey looks small and funny looking so maybe this time she can join? diantha looks around for signs of her sisters and parents, curious as to if they're joining too. looks like it's just us she says, rather cheerfully.

It was difficult not to know exactly where her sister was when she squealed in such a manner. Victoria had been close by and not necessarily following @Diantha, but the exclamation was undoubtedly that of the oldest Miroslav girl. Victoria's eyes narrowed briefly before she slipped quickly after her sister, in time for her to ask if she could help. A scoff of derision came from the middle sister, who approached her larger sisters side as she mentioned it was just them. I'm afraid not, darling sister.. "Don't be silly Diantha." Her words were a little scathing. "You're too young and too little to hunt, you'll only get in the way." Victoria offered, tail swishing dismissively at her sisters wild notions. What use could she be, when she was still too small? Of course, there was nothing to say they couldn't watch the adults.

There was a familiar voice calling his name before he was run into. There was a rare flicker of a smile as he looked towards the girl. He watched as she moved around to place herself directly in front of him. It was an odd placement and had him glancing around for Seneca or Genya. Damn if it didn't look like he was trying to steal their cub. But it wasn't like he could exactly tell Dia to move either as she was royalty. This child kept on placing him in awkward predicaments that kept the pale male looking over his shoulder.

He had opened his mouth to respond to Dia's request to help when along came another cub, one he could only assume to be sister to Dia. He didn't know of any of the other pride members here having cubs. Granted he hadn't gone out and taken a census either.

"Actually both of you can help. Because it is small that means it is going to be fast. If both of you can stay here and watch it to make sure it won't get away that will be a great help. Just let everyone know which way it is going so we can catch it. Then you can help me make sure it doesn't leave behind a curse." He wasn't certain how well that would go over but he was trying. And it really was an important job to be a lookout when the prey was so much smaller and nimbler than the adults were. Plus appearing the Rwh was the most important job of all.

Iofiel carefully stepped around the girls when the other adults made the move to start the hunt. He listened out for the cubs voices to see if they would do as he said and couldn't help glancing to them to make certain that they didn't get too close and get hurt.

Eventually the duiker fell. "Diantha, Sister." He called the girls over. "Just repeat after me." Not that he could really force them, or even expect them to do it. "Thank you for your sacrifice so that we might continue to live. Your gift is greatly appreciated. May you go forth with all the honor and respect deserving of such great offering." Iofiel spoke the words of the prayer slowly in case the cubs did choose to repeat after him.

Then he did something he didn't normally do. He tore into the animal. Iofiel took out a portion of the soft belly meat and placed a mouthful before both Diantha and Victoria. Still he took nothing for himself but he watched to make sure the girls got to eat.

There was a severe temptation to snap at the pair of cubs that appeared to join them, and in fact she was in the process of opening her mouth before another spoke up instead. Her jaw clicked shut again and she turned back to the others, schooling her expression into nothing once more.

Luckily, their party was in search of prey quickly, and it was quite the small creature. She wasn't sure what the point of going after something like that was, but hey, no complaining. She knew better than that at least. Trying to play nice with others was so difficult.

There wasn't much point to sticking around in her mind, as it was small enough to be carted off by the others. At least her first hunt with the group had been productive.

Another successful hunt. Another opportunity to see their stores filled and at the ready. Those there were slowly becoming more recognizable, better known. Their voices aided in the growing sense of accomplishment, in the feeling of belonging. She listened, though the figure on the outside and relished the sense of community all the same. And once the lesson was made, their hunt completed, she seated herself in a reclined posture, her breath collecting itself from expense. Politely, her ear bent towards Iofiel and the children. Though she wanted to stay, the huntress instead stood and quietly departed from the lesson being imparted. There were other things afoot needing her attention. exit
