RETURN OF THE MIST

There is an eeriness to the lands - an unknown chill that seemed to hang across the air, threatening to consume more than it already had. The shift is undeniable and, evidently, had already garnered its fair share of attention, as lions flocked in an attempt to rectify the disappearance of their kin.

Here, the fog seemed to thicken abruptly, occupying thr area as a swirling mass of white smoke and fading, hungry clouds. Listen close enough, however, and one may catch a sort of strange echo — indiscernible, mostly, other than the waning tremor that it left behind. There is almost no denying that there is someone in there, caught amongst the maze of wispy tendrils and omnipotent barriers.

And although the sound of approaching footfalls was beginning to grow louder, the question still remained - will they be able to find them?

Whatever this is, Seneca is hard-pressed to believe it's just a strange phenomenon of weather any longer. This is different, strange and otherworldly, and he wonders what sort of place it is that he's settled in to behave so erratically to the laws of nature. He ascends the peaks of the gorge, alert to the strange noises that tumble from the mist around them, echoing off rock walls and seeming to come from nowhere and everywhere all at once. His brows furrow and he glances back to his current company, wondering what they make of all this strangeness in their world. search roll: Rolling 1d10: 2 trade boost: n/a

This mist lingered and lingered still. Waiting it out was proving an impossibility. Could it be the Rwh then? He had thought he had cleansed the pride. And this was happening outside of the pride as well. So what was there to explain it? Iofiel couldn't put anything towards it but the Rwh.

A nod was given to Seneca as he joined the High Sovereign. There as a sound in the mist that he couldn't exactly explain. "Rwh?" But he had never heard them speak before. He couldn't explain what else would make such an odd sound though. It wasn't as if anything could be seen through the mist.

"What are you two just standing around for? We have to find him!" There was a frantic note to the lilac lion's voice as he moved past the two males standing atop the gorge. "Haros! Haros!?" He called out, his already savaged voice muffled further by the seemingly impenetrable mist. How was the cleric meant to hear him? Now more than ever he cursed what had happened. If he could still sing...

The thought broke off by the sound of footfalls within the mist. "Haros!" Vitae called out as he surged down the slim ridge of rock that acted as a path towards the bottom of the gorge. He only got a few paces in before he ran smack into an invisible wall.

They gather, finding some sort of unity and camaraderie beneath their common cause, bodies and minds working as once to try and find those that they had lost. The echo continues for a while longer, buzzing beneath the surface of the mist as if trying to break free — though it would find no avail. At least, not yet, anyways.

For it was abruptly that there was another shift, the air growing taunt as a small gust of wind pushed out across the landscape, demanding the attention of those present.

"help me!" an unknown voice cried out suddenly, slipping out onto the edge of the mist before their body collapsed to the earth, covered in blood and wounds and dirt. the man’s eyes, however, looked towards the group in an expression of panic and anxiety, desperate despite his fatigue and injuries, as he reached a paw towards them. "they’re chasing me!" he pressed further, voice hitching as the shadowy shapes of two hyenas came into view, crimson staining their maws and their eyes set hungrily upon their victim — almost daring the other to come between them.

There was a cry for help and Vitae was surging forwards. "Haros!" He called out as he moved. But no, it wasn't Haros. It was... he had no idea. But it wasn't who he was looking for. Gaze slipped past the injured man to look towards the mist. Who was they? And then Vitae saw them.

A snarl lifted his lip from his teeth at the sight of the hyenas. If they had done to Haros as they had did to this man. The lilac male slipped into a battle stance. "Where. Is. Haros!?" The words were growled out.

Iofiel watched the lilac man race ahead. Clearly he was worried but still caution was something better advised. They had no idea what they were dealing with here to be running about like that. Especially on the edge of a gorge. One false step and that was it. If one didn't die from it then they would wish themselves dead.

Then someone emerged from the mist with a pair of hyenas close behind. The purple lion was already set against the threat so Iofiel moved towards the injured party. He didn't give platitudes. He wouldn't say things would be fine when he has no idea if they would be or not. "Let me look at you. I am a healer by trade." He spoke quietly, trying to soothe the man's nerves.

Vitae is panicked, rushing forward with no logical thought; Seneca knows the dips of the gorge, the drop-offs, and the added danger with this mist covering most visibility. The lilac lion is lucky that he is stopped by the invisible wall before he falls off the ledge, and a bloodied stranger spills forth from the fog, begging for help. The sovereign's gaze snaps to the new arrival, and then the movement behind of just what is chasing them. His lips curl into an instant sneer, and he swears he can feel the burn in his injured leg again. "I fucking hate hyenas," he snaps, surging past Iofiel and the injured lion without warning, attempting to snap his jaws around the back of the neck of the one closest to him. search roll: Rolling 1d10: 4 trade boost: paladin level 2

the hyenas mocked the injured lion as he fell to the earth, slipping into a halt, shoulder-to-shoulder in front of the andal trio — well, wasn’t this interesting?

the rogue, however, was clearly in a panicked state of mind, even as he struggled to find physical strength. if was evident in the way that his eyes darted nervously to the healer that approached, before the hyenas garnered his attention anew and prompted a cry to gurgle up from his throat. a moment later he was back on his feet, wobbling but fuelled by his flight instinct, despite the severity of his wounds. "n-no! I need to get out of here!" he nearly begged, before stumbling away from the search party, looking to rod themselves completely of the hyenas - for he knew, surely, that they would come for him again.

the hyenas had their own issues to deal with, however, snarls slipping across the air as one of the men retaliated, teeth meeting flesh as blood spattered across the earth. knowing that their fun was over, both creatures would look to remove themselves, scampering back into the thralls of the mist in search of their next victim.

The injured rogue was up and gone. The hyenas were the next to make a hasty retreat after Seneca went on the attack. That left Vitae turning to the mist once more but still there was no Haros there. The lilac man even made an attempt to enter the mist himself to go and look for his mate but his way was blocked by an invisible wall. So how had that rogue and those hyenas get through?

"We have to keep looking. He has to be around somewhere. If that other lion and those hyenas can get through then there has to be somewhere else that we can get through and find him." With that Vitae made his way away in order to keep testing out the mist to find a way through.
