RETURN OF THE MIST

There is an eeriness to the lands - an unknown chill that seemed to hang across the air, threatening to consume more than it already had. The shift is undeniable and, evidently, had already garnered its fair share of attention, as lions flocked in an attempt to rectify the disappearance of their kin.

Here, the fog seemed to thicken abruptly, occupying the area as a swirling mass of white smoke and fading, hungry clouds. Listen close enough, however, and one may catch a sort of strange echo — indiscernible, mostly, other than the waning tremor that it left behind. There is almost no denying that there is someone in there, caught amongst the maze of wispy tendrils and omnipotent barriers.

And although the sound of approaching footfalls was beginning to grow louder, the question still remained - will they be able to find them?

They had to find their kin. There were too many of them missing. Granted, even one would be too many in her mind. Still, with this many of them looking, surely they would be able to find someone, right? Or at least have some idea where they might have gone? She couldn't imagine where they could have disappeared to, where the mist could have taken them.

"I certainly be askin' de spirits about dis later," she commented softly. Maybe one of them had seen something like this before.

First, though, they had to pick up some sort of trail or sign of those they were looking for, and she would simply pray they were all right.

She hadn't left @Renly's side the moment she had caught up to her sister, her shoulder pressed tight to the sunset girl's own, afraid that she too would vanish into thin air as the others had if she didn't. It was taking all she could to hold herself together as it were, and it would take even less to shatter her completely the more she heard along the way of all those who now stood missing. Their older brother, @Khal, had also gone missing within the dark reaches of the mists, and Nienna found herself lost in the overwhelming grip of panic for their family. They had to find them, they just had to! Though she could feel the familiar sting of tears beginning, the Valour girl would shake them away, gritting her teeth hard. She couldn't cry right now, not when so many needed her strength; and she would be damned if she let them down. Her bleary eyes would flick around the group in quickened succession to see what each were doing before she began to glance around their surroundings with sharpened intent, ears pricked forward to catch any sound that might lead to the discovering of a clue. Surely, there had to be something here that they would find that would lead them to their lost loved ones.

Every second that she was out looking for her siblings and Lena, the more she began to fear the absolute worst. Scared that she would never get to share in an adventure with her sister, never get to be told wonderful stories from her big brother nor any from Lena. All of them played a huge part in her life and after losing her own littermate/brother as well as her father, she couldn't bear the thought of losing anyone else. Renly was more than thankful to have @Nienna close at her side as they searched, occasionally pushing herself back into her sister's comforting gestures as that was the only thing keeping her relatively sane. That and she was scared that if she didn't stick close to her then she might disappear into the mist, too. @Heloise's voice made for a strong nod, hoping that the woman could get answers from them. At this point she wasn't all that sold into the spirits as some of her family was but she didn't dismiss them entirely. Renly had more on her mind than to consult with Maua or any other God. If someone else wanted to, that was fine, but she needed to begin the search first and foremost.

Tullia joined the search for her missed family, many of.tjem and that wasn't going to be left ignored. She took deep paused breaths, focusing. Letting the stress and bad omens go out if her mind, she needed it to be clean if she wanted to search, if she wanted to be able to do something. She sniffed the air, listening to each noise, every detail was needed and she was determined to find those missing. She looked at @Heloise as she spoken, she nodded in silence. Walking away. But staying at range, the last thing they needed was someone else getting lost.

The bronze male followed along with the party. He didn't remain directly with them though. It wasn't that he had anything against them but he was spread out and looking for clues. Every now and then he would pause to study a footprint or to listen for some sort of sound. He was looking for anything that might help them, anything that might direct them on where best to focus their attention.

It was hard to see anything with the thickness of the mist in some places, other areas were thinner but still one couldn't see a great distance. Ever so often Caligula could swear he heard the faint sounds of a voice. These instances caused him to pull up short and to stare into the heavy body of the mist, ears cupped forward as they strained to pick out words. The maneless lion stood entranced as he watched the ebb and flow of the mist. Was that a shadow? Just a trick of the light? The Noble could have sworn there was someone standing just beyond the mist.

nymeria knew not what they were going to find out here, but she did know that they needed to do everything in their power to get their kin back home, where they belonged. and so the druid’s heart thumped heavily in her chest as she moved alongside the others, eyes skimming purposefully along the edges of the encroaching mist, intent and focused, almost if she expected one of them to materialize out of thin air. but alas, they did not — at least not yet, anyways.

"arden, lena, khal!" the woman’s voice rang out evenly, carrying itself up and across the forest breeze as her brows furrowed, her frame coming to a halt upon the edge of the fog. the silence was heavy, however, and it was with a sombre, telling stare that nymeria would glance back towards the search party, muscles stiff as she wrangled with the anxiety that swelled beneath her surface.

once voluspa had realized that this whole ordeal simply could not wait, she had sought to immediately veer in the direction of the grove. each step that took her further away was like a dagger to her heart, each second feeling like a cruel and long eternity — so, much to the sigrun’s relief, when she realized that a group had already been assembled to assist with the search for the vermedans, she could threads of hope (though hesitant) emerging.

dark eyes flickered between the collection of faces, some familiar and others not — but even though they were not family yet, they would be, one day, which meant that the brook had voluspa’S fealty all the same. shifting instinctively towards @Renly, a stoic expression would overcome her features then, concealing her turmoil with the overwhelming feeling of desire and duty that soared within her cheat. vellen, bring them home, or i will do it myself.

He wasn't a super skilled hunter or tracker. He could walk the borders from dawn to dusk and know if something was there that shouldn't have been but this? This frustrated him. Worry blinded his better senses and he was rushed. Anxious, face twisted deep with lines of fear. As if each second was crucial. Maybe it was. He lifted his head up from the ground where he had sniffed around, trying to track and pick up scents with no luck. Through the mist he looked particularly for Nymeria and Caligula who were more likely to be successful than him. "Anything?" His deep voice rumbled quietly as he moved to come stand up beside Caligula, brushing his shoulder to the smaller male for comfort.

They gather, finding some sort of unity and camaraderie beneath their common cause, bodies and minds working as once to try and find those that they had lost. The echo continues for a while longer, buzzing beneath the surface of the mist as if trying to break free — though it would find no avail. At least, not yet, anyways.

For it was abruptly that there was another shift, the air growing taunt as a small gust of wind pushed out across the landscape, demanding the attention of those present.

Only a moment later, a strange, unfamiliar shape tumbled from the shadows of the mist, their movements clumsy and uncoordinated as they staggered before the search party. and while it was no ordinary lion, but instead a leopard, the state and condition of their body was apparent all the same — for it would only take them all a moment to hone into the disheveled pelt, wide, anxious eyes, and the blistered paw pads that coated the air around them with the smell of iron. "i- help me, please," the creature rasped, before the pain of their bleeding feet overcame them and they shrunk to the ground before the group, clearly at their mercy.
