Oh boy, what was that? Ignoring the fact that a freaking herbivore was trying to claim his own crown of the Rainforest, Roan knew exactly what kind of prey was staking its claim. The king's mouth was salivating at the very thought of another kudu for the pride, another horn to chew on. Damn, this mauve boy was gonna end up a hoarder of kudu horns if they kept taking down the beasts. Being a male never stopped the Hodari from taking part in a hunt, but he was still surprised to find himself the first on the scene as he neared where the kudu's call was coming from. For the time being, the masked sovereign lingered among the foliage, doing his best to remain down wind of it and hoping that the jungle offered enough camouflage until more could show up. Heck yeah, they were gonna eat good tonight!

Gemma was always down to eat, considering the glutton that she was. There was in no way any way to tell since she didn't exactly have a figure to show for it but she loved her food. Especially when she wasn't the only one who had to work for it. Of course, any meal prepared solely by someone else always tasted a million times better but she'd offer up her hand in exchange for a good meal regardless of who prepared it. Which was why she was delighted when she found that @Roan had already stumbled across her target. Red eyes gave a slow blink as her head leaned forward to give him a respectful nod of her head, thankful for his position and eagerness to take down something with her.

Well this was a mild annoyance. Her golden ears fold back at the noise as she rises to see what going on. She trotted along until she got close and then she slowed and paid attention to the winds and shifted so that she was downwind. As she moved she ran into two others, Roan and a lioness that she had seen at the challenge. It seemed that the hunt would be with them. She came next to Gemma and gave him each a welcoming looking before focusing on the animal that was being loud and annoying. She wanted to eat and she wanted the peace to be back in the rainforest. She was ready.

The mauve lion was more than ready for this hunt. In fact, he was almost giddy at the thought of kudu for dinner, and soon enough, it would seem that he wasn't the only one interested in taking this beast down a peg or two. Gemma arrived first, prompting a silent nod from the king in acknowledgement before offering the same to Mitsuko when she appeared next. The Hodari didn't want to give away their position to their target for as long as possible. Even if the lush foliage around them proved a little difficult to maneuver in an all out run, it did also offer excellent coverage while doing their best to stay out of sight.

Once it seemed that one one else was going to join them, Roan decided he couldn't wait any longer and launched his attack. Normally, one would expect the lionesses to start the chase, but no one gets between the Hodari and a kudu, thank you. This might be the one time the mauve lion uses his rank to claim anything for himself. Of course he'd be calling dibs on a horn, at least. Despite only having a party of three against the large beast, the mismatched trio of lions managed to bring the hefty herbivore down with little struggle. Roan held onto the throat tightly until he was certain that the kudu was definitely dead. With blood dripping from his lips already, the masked lion looked to the two women as he brought his head back up from the carcass. "Great job!" he'd applaud with a bright smile. "I call dibs on a horn, but otherwise feel free to eat your fill before we stash the rest," he smirked. Papa needs a new chew toy, plus Roan was always a glutton for fresh kudu, so even the king would sit and eat a bit before eventually snapping off a horn and leaving to deposit it safely within his den.

Dibs on the other horn, then! Gemma called right after him, deciding then and there that she wanted a piece of the good stuff, too! Meat came and went but if she could get her hands on one of its neat horns then she was going to do so without question. Gemma waited patiently for him to choose the one that he wanted before taking the other. It was a little more beat up and worn down than the other but still sharp and still just as cool. Eventually taking it in her mouth and trotting away, happy as ever. Helping to move the carcass, of course, but not until she was done dropping the horn off at her den before coming back to move their haul. exit gemma!
