The lion lay near the watering hole, really, he had been wondering if something would die and he could eat it without putting in the effort of killing something himself. He instead had spent the last hour watching animals approach the watering hole with trepidation only for nothing to happen. The one time something did happen, it was quickly submerged and devoured by hungry crocodiles…or were those alligators?

Green gaze watched it all with lazy interest. He sighed heavily, decisive that nothing was going to happen and he would be forced to actually hunt a meal. He lay in the shade of the trees, but the animals had taken note of him, stomping and snorting and calling out alarms and warnings for some time, he would have to leave and then sneak back to hunt here. He had no intention of putting that much effort into anything.

While he lay there, he heard the trumpets of elephants, particularly two bull elephants. They came crashing through the trees to his left, causing him to start, rising to his feet and moving a few steps before he stopped, a smirk pulling at his lips. The bulls were fighting, one seemingly much older than the other, but its age was not helping it today. Perhaps it was the cold? Stiffening the animals joints, but the younger bull clearly had the upper hand. Lethal tusks prodded at the tough skin of the elder bull. Eyes watched hungrily as the fight continued, splashing in and out of the water, the scent of blood hanging in the air as they battered each other.

Cautiously, Styrling lay back down. Enjoying the show.

Good lord, what was that ruckus?

She was used to a certain sort of chaos coming from the watering hole, prey squabbling over one thing or another or a hunt going on, taking advantage of the locale drawing easy prey in. But this was different. It wasn't until she approached and saw what was going on that she understood, and a soft scoff left her. Males, they could be depended upon for a show, if nothing else.

Her sides slightly swollen, she wasn't going anywhere near those flailing trunks or stomping feet. Even if she wasn't currently carrying precious life within her, she was smarter than that. But because she was, she stopped well before she otherwise would have to observe.

Though she noticed she wasn't the only one.

She circled wide around the watering hole and the fight to come up behind him, not with the intent of sneaking up on him this time but more putting him between her and the elephants. Brave of you, she commented, though really he wasn't that close.

He would admit, it was probably stupid to be so close to the testosterone driven bull elephants. Even though he was quite the distance away, if he didn’t run fast enough there was a good chance he could be trampled. He was willing to take the chance, however, if it meant he was close enough to claim the carcass if one of them died.

Ears swiveled as he heard the approach of another, his skull shifted so that he could see the woman, red and white, approach and seat herself behind him- effectively putting him between her and the fighting bulls. He chuckled softly at her words. "You’re only 5 feet further, I could say the same for you." He pointed out, a smile tugging at his lips. "Wanna bet on the winner?" He asked, brow raising questioningly. If the elder won, she could have the carcass, if the younger won- he got the carcass? Seemed fair.

She chuckled at his response, because it was fairly accurate. She had gotten closer to the scene instead of turning around and going the other way, after all. Ah, but I only have to outrun you, and I'd have a head start. Though I do have a slight handicap, she replied. She didn't know just how much her pregnancy would slow her down, especially as she was only just beginning to show, but she had a feeling it would at least a little bit. That little bit might well be enough, so she would hope it didn't come to that.

A low hum left her as she regarded the pair of elephants. The older was clearly struggling, but at the same time it surely had the experience of its years. The older, she decided. She would bet on the underdog this time, she decided. Even if she wasn't right, he was putting up one hell of a fight.

He chuckled at her words, well, she had him there. She did have a head start and he was well aware that he wasn’t the fastest around. She mentioned her handicap and he nodded slightly. "Congratulations."He wasn’t really sure what else to say, she was either thrilled or not, but he kept his tone neutral so it could be taken as either happy, or unfortunate.

"Perhaps you shouldn’t be near this fight then, hmm?" He wondered as he settled back down to watch the fight. He beckoned her to sit near him, so that they could talk without him craning his neck back. "Don’t worry, even with your handicap, I imagine you are faster than me." He spoke with humored tones, but his gaze did not leave the fighting bulls. He had no intention of being a hero, but he doubted they even noticed the two predators.

She mentioned the older and he smirked ever so slightly. "Liking the underdog I see."He mused, "very well, I’ll take the younger." He watched the pair fighting for a moment, the older pushing the younger back and then the younger doing the same. His ears flicked at the sound of trampled younger trees, the snapping and cracking of wood. "I’m Styrling, by the way."

She gave a demure sort of nod, a simple acceptance of his word. She wasn't certain how she felt about the babies herself if she was being honest. It would be the first time she'd actually carried them, despite her having a son already, and thus far it had been an... interesting experience, if nothing else.

Probably not, she agreed even as she moved forward to join him. And yet I do so enjoy doing things I shouldn't be. It didn't help that she was so good at them.

The underdog... yes, she supposed so. Perhaps experience shall win out over age, she said. It seemed a long shot, but it was always a possibility. Then again, luck was always a thing too. Arcania, she replied, for once not giving her surname simply because he hadn't either. Do you go for this kind of sport often? It was more of a joke than a serious question, because how often did one come across a pair of elephants fighting, but again there was every possibility that it did happen frequently enough.
