Sometimes you plan to go hunt. And sometimes the hunt comes to you. Fearne is in the lowlands around the Summit, wandering back and forth over the territory line in scrutiny of the territory itself and the signs of animals there. A lot of them are moving around in the summer heat searching for water and relief. It seems this stretch of territory has become a well traveled one...

And then a crack of a twig from behind him. Fearne quickly whips around and spots the prey item there. Something equally as unobservant who has stumbled onto a lion that begins racing towards it...

His small form lent him some ease in weaving through the sparse tundra of the mountainside. Gryff was slowly getting to know his new home- slowly learning more about it, learning how the land shifted and smelt. He was also trying to learn how he fit into it. He had been rather isolated- self imposed- because he wasn't sure... how to interact with others who didn't view him as a prisoner. And he was growing, and growing into a yearling male that had a lot of changes happening. He wasn't getting any taller really but his legs were longer, his narrow adolescent body a bit gawky, and awkward. He had tripped over himself at least four times this morning, falling into a bundle of leaves and moss- which he then purposefully rolled in in order to try to cover his scent.

Y'know, he has to make it look... less accidental and clumsy. Can't blame the boy for trying.

There was a strange smell in the air today, and it was musky and warm like food with a stench. And it sounded big, so Gryff had been tracking the scent from a bit of a distance, when he spied another lion. Ears pricking with interest, he would creep forward, aiming to come along towards the massive creature before he would leap towards it- doing his best, in a very clumsy manner to try to help with this hunt. This was a hunt, right?

The scent of a rhinoceros was not one that he was capable of missing. Eskel had rose from where he'd been dozing when he'd scented it and begun the trek towards the beast. When he finds it, he realizes he hasn't heard any summons for a hunt and... there are two yearlings... Oh gods.

Eskel moves into action, leaping into the hunt as he lets out a loud chuff calling anyone near them to come help so neither of the yearlings died via rhino. How would he explain letting that happen out of male pride to Talisa and Morrigan.

"Watch out for it's horn, and feet." He'd offer to the boys as he huffed out the words and attacked the beast- trying to help rend it down. Why the hell was there a rhino on the mountain?

The fact that @Fearne had found himself a rhinoceros did not surprise Talisa in the slightest. It did, however, concern her. So she halted what she had been doing and made her way to him, keeping her distance as she realized that not only had @Eskel shown up to help him out but @Gryff who was a grandchild of Seraphiel and Bronx. Two members hat had been with them forever and with a satisfied smile on her face, delighted to see the young leading the charge in some way, Talisa moved in to assist them in their hunt. No doubt she and Eskel would be able to help the two young boys as well as guide them to be more successful as they went.

Of course there was a rhino way up at the Summit. At this point, Alvena was surprised by nothing anymore. But it was a good thing they had found it instead of the other way around. Having such a large creature wandering around the pride lands didn't seem like a good thing. Nor did the small group that had gathered attempting to take it on, but she figured they could find some way to manage it. They would have to be careful, but she knew three of them were experienced hunters, and there was always the chance more would come along as well. She hoped so. The more backup, the better.

Talisa was certainly trying as hard as she could to help pull the weight of the many. With the others in succession they were able to land a few more hits afterwards. She fathomed that they were going to have to work twice as hard if they wanted victory before they were out of their energies or the beast found its second wind. Laying her eyes upon Eskel with a mischievous smile before settling her attention entirely upon their prey. A rhinoceros was no joke when it came to its strength and while it wasn't the fastest creature by any means, it could do a hell of a lot of damage when it did choose to move. So Talisa moved in when she figured it was safe to try and secure a few more wounds.

His adrenaline was sent sky high as he turned and ended up face to face with a beast much bigger and dangerous than he expected. He should know better but something in his head told him there wasn't any chance creatures this big and dangerous could end up in the mountains... right elephants? He was on the threshold of deciding if he needed to flee and how best to do it without startling the rhino when more of Illyria began to arrive. Suddenly fleeing wasn't the only option, a hunt was in the cards for them. Having overcome the surprise of suddenly think Fearne jumped in with claws ready for damage.

With the help of @Fearne's killing blow, the beast was taken down leaving Talisa the opportunity to catch her breath. Regarding her son quietly and carefully, always so proud of him and feeling surprised at every turn by how much more grown up he seemed by the day. Fearne had always been such a gentle, full-of-heart boy and hoped that he would continue to nurture that heart well into the future no matter what ailed him. Some might consider a big heart to be a weakness but it was a strength in her eyes (and to Morrigan's).

Bowing her head she did her hunting prayer to Maua before chuffing at the other hunters to come in and eat. Take what they deserved and whatever was left would go straight to the cache for those that had not been able to make it. exit talisa

Eskel finds that he is impressed, by the one younger lad's ability to bring the beast down with a killing blow. As they came to a halt, he was breathing heavily but he nodded at him. "Good job." He'd offer with a grin, his gaze on @Faerne - then he'd look to @Talisa as she moved to leave. "Tali- wait up." He calls, as he waves his tail to the boys, dashing off after her, after grabbing a hunt of the meat for them to share. "Hafto tell you 'omethin.'" he talks around the food, his mouthful muffling his voice and making it a bit harder for him to be understood as she chased after her.

Whew, that was exhilarating. She was always glad when hunts were over, not because she disliked the exercise or anything like that, but because she was always a little worried that someone was going to be injured in the process. Not this time, though. They were graced with another meal without too much difficulty. A good thing, and she hoped more prey kept wandering up to the summit even as winter started to settle in. She had a feeling that would start to slow down, though. She certainly wouldn't be making as many trips up and down herself. Unless her parents needed something, of course. Then she would without question.
