It was time once again for his daily battle.

The calf wobbled with intent from his home and towards the pit once again. Eyes would carefully survey the territory as he swipes his trunk along the ground; kicking up dust and coating himself in it. Maybe this way he could protect his hide from the claws and jaws that would seek it out. Maybe, just maybe he could just spend a little bit more time here, and get a little bit stronger. So he would uncoil his trunk and release a strong trumpet to summon an opponent.

The call that came across the land was different. It wasn't of a lion's voice and it was further confirmed when she found herself looking at the elephant she had seen not that long ago. Walking down the path to the center of the pit, ears twisting and she would tilt her head at the youngster before her. Well, this is an interesting surprise. She would comment, watching @Ardghal closely and wondering how she'd be able to even fight the elephant to begin with. Normally it took a whole pride to take one down. So is there a reason you are wanting to fight a lion? She was really curious and would gladly fight the youngster but she wanted to understand why.

He didn't remember her name or if he was even told, but it was the black lioness again. But regardless she faced him now in this pit of blood and misery. Her comment of this being interesting garnered no response from him except the slow fanning forward of his ears as he watched her rather intently. Was she trying to distract him? Was she going to lunge? One could never be too careful with the carnivorous type.

'Why do you want to fight a lion?'

The question finally reaches him and he blinks. So I can kill them. That was after all the end goal of his training. He had to figure out how to break them under his small stature and flippant temperament. After all, he already experienced the hunger at which some looked at him in and if he was to survive in this world he would have to garner the reputation of not being just a weak calf wandering around the world.

His answer was the correct one. A good answer as she would give him a dark grin, That's a good answer. She would state, shifting herself into a defensive position. Why don't you start the first round, hm? Aphrodite wanted to see what he knew. What he could learn or what she could learn about his own kind. Seeing as they were both from different families in the ecosystem it wouldn't hurt for her to learn a few things about the other creatures that roamed this island alongside her and every other lion. Even if the elephant before her was the first creature she had encountered in her short time of being here.

It was? He would tilt his head almost sheepishly towards her before dipping it slightly in a small nod of agreement. no! The calf would state in sudden defiance. He wasn't going to attack first. Instead, he would plant his feet solidly on the ground as he eyes Aphrodite for a long moment. You go first. The youngster was starting to learn, but he had it in mind that she was going to be charging at him. After all, a sudden spike of laziness seeped into his bones and he wasn't going to move anymore than he had too.

Interesting. He wanted her to go first and Aphrodite would give him a dark grin as she began to circle him to the left, and then turned to go to the right before suddenly lunging herself at him. Claws dug into the ground beneath her as she pushed herself forwards until she would crouch and push herself from the ground in order to attempt drag her claws down his left side, though she wasn't sure if that was going to prove anything. Elephant's skin was rough as hell and her claws - though sharpened - may not puncture shit but Aphrodite was going to try at least.

Eyes would focus solely upon the maned black lioness as she said nothing but moved. What was she doing? He knew lionesses were agile but he wasn't expecting her feint. Her claws made contact with the thickened hide along his sides - making the calf squeak in discomfort as the nerve endings frayed under the pressure. Unceremoniously the calf would try to raise his left foot and sharply kick it out toward the lioness's front legs in retaliation for her trying to cut him up but at the same time his head would lower - he taking a deep breath before sharply exhaling in an attempt to blow the dust and snow up and towards the lioness's attacking form.

Her claws did dig into the rough skin of the elephants hide. Though it was odd and unfamiliar, but she would keep going, even when she felt the strong kick from his leg and how it bruised her leg which caused her to retreat a few steps, limping as one would think, even the sand and snow that was blown to her figure caused for Aphrodite to sneeze and shake her head. A growl erupted from her throat before she would push herself forwards and would attempt to snap, bite even, at the leg that had been shoved her way. Aiming to grab whatever she could of the elephants rather larger leg with her fangs.

Success was a sweet thing. One that made the beginning vestiges of festering love for his strength starts to butterfly in his chest. Every day Ardghal was getting stronger and stronger, and each victory and defeat added more information to her arsenal. Could she not see that she too would add to the information he had and that such information was dangerous? His kind was long-lived, and none of this would be forgotten.

Until he forgot moments later as her claws slashed through the thick flesh along his outstretched left leg. The pain continued to work at the surface of his mind, worming its way deeper still as the cut flesh finally began to howl its pain through destroyed nerve endings. He would respond with another lash out of his leg leg, trying to batter her lashing paw with a forceful kick.

She would not get away with this!

It wasn't paws that she had used but her fangs and with that came his ravaging thrusts that bruised at her gum. She would let go of the elephant's leg and would try another tactic. Ears staying flat on her head, Aphrodite would shift her plan towards the front of his body. She would aim for the thing he calls his nose. Attempting to snap her jaws at his nose, even though she wasn't aiming to do damage, or to hurt him. She just wanted him to be aware that his trunk - that thing - could be used against him. That it could cause him death if he was not careful.
