They'd never been particularly close, but then he'd always been more of a watchful guardian in the background for most of his younger siblings. He was happy to let them live center-stage, and glad to hear when their ambitions reached new heights. No matter the pain he'd witnessed in his littermate when such things were ripped from her. Such was the risk and sacrifice of a kingdom of your own, were his thoughts as he awaited the Scillan High Sovereign at her border.

July Y13
Summer
Summer is in full swing now, with clear skies, warm nights, and ample sunshine! As such, the deserts begin to grow dry, the shores remain a blissful escape, the north is spared with cooling winds, and humidity continues to rise in the jungle. Rain and storms are long forgotten troubles by now, which is both a virtue and a vice during the heat of the season.

Unlike his mother, Khal did not mind spending time on the southern shores, though it was a it smothering in the summer time. He enjoyed the winter sea spray, the way it clung to his coat and he could carry a reminder of his Sigrún lover home to him, to what had once been a solitary existence. Not anymore, now he had reason to come to her former home, having heard tale of her taking a crown for herself. He could only assume that with the fall of the Brook other members of the family had come here as well, but it was the scent of his sister @Isla ♔ confirmed on the border that had him calling for her in particular.

It's a call she wasn't expecting, but a call she was happy to hear. Isla hadn't seen @Khal in some time now, but she never fretted over whether or not she was okay. She knew her older brother enjoyed wandering, having his own space and freedoms, and sometimes the Summit just wasn't the proper home for her family. When she heard the call it made her stop in ger tracks, patrolling not too far from where it had come from. Her body pivots and now moves into the direction, colossal form moving swiftly along the sandy ground.
It wouldn't take her too long before eyes landed upon her brother, releasing a couple of greeting chuffs as she neared. "Willkommen Bruder," Welcome brother the Queen greets him, instinctually clinching the space between them in an attempt to bump her forehead with his own. "How have you been?" She asks once she retreats, now taking the time to look him over and to ensure that he was alright. A paw rises to motion for Khal to pass the borders, Isla now padding in the direction of the shore.

@Isla ♔ did not leave him lingering long and he returned her affectionate headbutt easily, the memory of her being a small bundle of pale grey fluff where she now loomed over him. "Eine Krone steht dir, Schwester," A crown suits you, sister, he returned in kind, because it did suit her, like she'd been crafted for it. "I've been great, actually, strange as that is to say given how bleak things were only months ago. I'm helping to lead a band in the jungle with Kireena, and Voluspa Sigrun, my betrothed, has returned with two daughters. My daughters." It might have been the most he'd ever spoken all at once in his life, but it felt good to have so much light to share for once, especially with Isla having risen to such heights herself.

A hum of agreement sounds from the woman; she, too, saw herself fit to hold such a heavy weight above her head. @Khal leaves her with little room to speak until he is talking once again, telling her of his life as of late. He had joined the band Kireena ruled, the news garnering a nod while he continued. A roguish lifestyle was exactly that suited her brother best. He then speaks of his beloved and then informs her that she has two new nieces, two more of the family to help them grow strong. "Oh, that is wonderful, brudder," Isla congratulates him, a smile curling her lips. "What are their names?" A forepaw lifts to gesture for him to pass the borders and to follow her deeper into Lagoon territory. "I would love to meet them," Isla tacks on, tail curling at the thought pf being able to dote on the newest members of their family.

Khal had spent so long lingering in the shadows of his family, a choice he'd made all on his own mind you, that having any reason at all to shine a spotlight on himself felt foreign. But all it took was thinking of those two girls and the fact Voluspa had come home to him to have him brushing it aside and beaming. "Tove and Dresden," one Sigrun name and one Greyflood name, after Khal and Isla's own grandfather whom they would likely never meet but would have been told of his iron will and steadfast loyalty. Something that all Greyflood after him had seemed to inherit this far. He moved easily to follow @Isla ♔ deeper within. "I'm sure they would love it here, being close to Vellen and all," he agreed, though as he glanced toward the ocean in the distance he also knew that the time was nearing when they would have to meet their god properly.

She gives her brother a sideways glance as she listens to her nieces names. "Strong names for strong blood." She had indeed heard many stories about their grandfather Dresden, ones that she knew would forever play in the back of her mind. Knowing that his name would live on through another generation brought a bright smile to her lips. Isla hoped that whenever it was her time to have children that she, too, would be able to pull from their lineage and continue to carry on great names.
"You all are welcome anytime. Voluspa, as well." The Queen wouldn't deny @Khal's lover admittance to her home; she was family she family were allowed to visit the Lagoon whenever they wished to. She takes the brief pause to collect her thoughts, allowing for her eyes to drink in her surroundings and to enjoy her brother's company. "How does the band fare?" She was curious to know how they worked, interested to see how Khal himself was enjoying it.

"Thank you, that would make her happy. She lives in the jungle for me but I know her heart belongs to the sea," and he wondered if his daughters would be the same. Strong blood indeed, and the strongest of alliances behind it, scattered as most of the Greyflood and Sigrun had become. Khal's own marriage had been the beginning of those binds being official. Arranged but there has been no need, for he had only ever had eyes for one. "The band is thriving, though quietly. It's nice, being on the outside of the kingdoms and their squabbles. Or at least having the choice." Because so long as his family was in danger, Khal would fight. "I think you would like Kireena," he told @Isla ♔, though perhaps they'd already met.

It was good to hear that things were going well within the Basin. It brought a wider smile at the thought of her brother enjoying where he was living; it seemed as though he was thriving. "Yes, I have met Kireena. Only briefly, though." And she had seen her during that unforgettable day where Morrigan had fallen. "Perhaps I should pay them a visit, see how they are and see if we can come to terms for an alliance." The Queen wasn't too sure where the maroon woman sat with politics and the only way for her to find out was to make a visit there herself. "Have you seen mutter lately?" A brow rises as she gives @Khal a sideways glance, curious to know if he had seen Morrigan - or even Talisa - lately. Has he heard of the war that loomed over the Lagoon?
06-26-2024, 05:51 PM
"Oh, that's right. I guess you would have had to. No doubt you were... there," he trailed off lamely, realizing @Isla ♔ must mean when Kireena had helped to save Morrigan's life. He hadn't talked about it with anyone really yet, not in the ways that needed to be. Whether by the grace of the gods or sheer luck Khal's only departure from the vale had been that treacherous time here while he lived in bliss with Voluspa. No doubt if things had gone... differently, Khal would have seen none of this as a blessing, apart from the children that resulted from his absence. "You should, just let me know and I can show you the way," he offered. Then she asked if he had spoken to his parents recently, but he felt more like she was asking if he'd spoken to the Queens recently. There was a difference. "I spoke to Talisa when I told her of the girls, but you know how she gets about grandchildren, or cubs in general really." He hadn't wished to bring up politics in that moment anyway. It was too nice.

There would never be a day that Morrigan's death is brought up in her mind, even if it was simply a lurking afterthought in the back of her mind. The day she fell had shown Isla that her mother wasn't immortal, wasn't invincible - she knew these things already but seeing it happen... "I'll keep you to it," she responds in a lighter tone, wanting to turn the conversation toward something easier to talk about. Both she and @Khal seemed to have a way of dancing around bigger issues.
Hearing how Talisa was over the moon to know she had more grandchildren keeps that smile plastered to her lips, a soft laugh escaping her as she nods her head in agreement. "Her love for children is like no other." Isla hoped that whenever she became a mother herself that she loved her children as much as their mother loved them. The Queen goes deeper into her territory, getting lost in conversation with her brother, enjoying making up for lost time, until it is time for them to depart and for she to go to her den to rest - but not before stopping at their cache to grab a quick bite to eat.
exit Isla.
