With winter looming in the near future, the sky was overcast gray. It almost looked like snow, but what fell from those bright clouds was rain instead. It was still too warm to have a proper snowstorm, but Syren was ready for either. She had been building her winter coat since the summer ended, and now packed with thick fur, she was ready to take on the world.

She stalked along the edge of the mountain following a delicious scent. Perhaps the Summit members would come if she called? Parting her black lips, she chuffed into the territory for those who would join her for a hunt. And then, she continued stalking her prey until she found it.

It was getting seriously cold lately, and Alvena was worried about how her family was going to do with the winter. Her parents weren't as young as they once were after all. Well, the only thing she could do was help keep the pride fed because then they would be able to help, right? Besides, she'd finally convinced her mom to sit out these hunts because she was worried she would get hurt, especially with her health not being the best, so she had to step up.

It was a yearling that had called them together, but she wasn't worried about that. It just meant they were the younger generation that was stepping up and taking their place in things. She just hoped they could manage this.

Oh boy, she still wasn't comfortable with all this. At least the hunting parties were usually smaller and more manageable, and from what she could see they were about the same age she was. That made it at least a little bit better. She was still nervous and jittery as she approached, but it helped to keep her out of sight from their quarry so in the end it worked out.

They were having a hard go of it thus far, it seemed, so she was quick to throw herself into it so maybe she could make a difference (and so that she didn't have to think about it anymore). She was determined to get better at this.

The one thing she knew she could help with was a hunt called for by someone else. Thankful that there was multiple lions within the Summit that were comfortable to take up the position of leading a hunt. It wasn't like it was a taxing experience or a burden to her but she sometimes had her fair share of trying to keep up with the politics, her own family and the family's of others that hunting sometimes fell by the wayside. She never forgot, of course, because this was her big sister and her best friend's skill and it was a way to honor Nymeria even in death.

The sky is grey, and the wind is cold, and the call for a hunt seems to Maven like the perfect opportunity to warm herself up before the grip of the approaching winter managed to freeze off her ears. She offered a quiet sound of greeting to her pridemates as she slid into their midst, crimson eyes flitting towards the dark clouds rolling up above, before dropping down to the antelope they were to pursue. An oryx, was it?

It wasn't often that the abyssal woman was offered such an abundance of shadows to stalk her prey from. How lucky.

The call for a hunt is a song. Or so hears Fearne. It's time for one creature's purpose to change. The lions, his family, will be fed. It was brutal sometimes but this was how the world worked. Intricate and precise. Everything has a piece in it, for some that was to feed others. The young royal approaches near Talisa and begins to creep along under the guise of shadow and some degree of "I'm young and stupid don't worry about me." Maybe something would focus on him and the older lions could take the shot and get the kill.

Well done! she cried out, pleased but certainly not surprised that the Summit had gathered together for a sporting event had come out victorious. An oryx would be enough to serve them for a good while but despite living in the cold temperatures of Amaryllis, the Summit was never aching for food. They once were a rather large pride but have since diminished in numbers (surprising to Talisa that they currently had no cubs within their ranks — this was also sad looking to her baby @Fearne and seeing him participate with a lot of gusto).

In fact, looking at him she served to move towards him and nudged his shoulder gently before bowing her head. Giving him a look into how she prepared their meal.

Talisa was quiet as she whispered beside him, leading a small prayer to their Creator for the gift that they had received. Fearne was no cleric but at the very least he could feel the connection to both mother and Mother. After all, Maua had brought him here.

When she followed its scent, she found her prey nuzzling into the snow at the edge of the mountain, perched on a ledge that even the lions would find difficult to maneuver. However, it was better that that wouldn't be necessary as the animal sensed the lions and began to move through the snow. The oryx was an odd, white-pelted creature with long, ridged horns, and thankfully it hadn't tried to use those horns on them.

The small party was successful in bringing the ungulate down swiftly, and Syren came to a stop beside their kill as Talisa said her maua prayers. The black, fluffy woman stood there, panting, waiting to see if it'd be decided that they carry the entire prize back to the pride stores whole, or were they granted a taste before committing to that struggle?

Either way, Syren would remain, awaiting a command from anyone in the present area before she'd move on, ensuring if she were needed, she was there; and if she wasn't, well, it was nice to lead the hunt for a change. /exit

Her first hunt without her mother, and thank goodness it went well. Not that she had expected anything less, though. Well, there might have been some issues given how young the majority of their hunters were, but in the end it had worked out and they had all gotten some practice in. Not only that, but the pride was going to be fed for a little while longer. That was very good, what with winter coming in quickly, though Alvena thought they might not notice when it fully set in considering it was always cold at the summit.

She nodded slightly in acceptance of and thanks for Talisa's praise before sectioning off part of their catch to drag it back to the cache, since she knew full well she wasn't going to be able to haul all of it, but she could at least do this much.

By the time everyone else began to pile in and she would have started getting nervous, the hunt was already over and she could scurry away from the majority of the group. One of these days she was really going to have to work on that anxiety of hers, but today was not going to be that day. On the other hand, she could probably pretend that she was working on it because she'd been coming out to these hunts and therefore working in a group. She just wished she could find something she could do that she didn't feel anxious about. It reminded her of the barbarian competition, where she'd felt strangely calm while fighting. Hmm, maybe she needed to look into that. -exit sariel-
