As the time passes from when she and @Sybil had run into the diety Maua in these lands, Kireena could no longer doubt that the god of this realm had gifted them with something that SHOULD have been impossible. The red giant has known the signs...the symptoms from her first doomed pregnancy and as time wore on, and her stomach grew... So to did the anxiety.
The woman did her best to keep her fears to herself and not worry either her beloved mate, or @Thistle..but the closer she came to what she would imagine was a due date, the more it was difficult to ignore. A second chance...gifted by the god of the realm themself. What if she STILL failed? Would Sybil forgive her?
It was that fear that kept her within the borders of Firnen as the last week drew upon her, and she felt more than just flutters. The red woman had spent some time preparing, gathering herbs needed as well as ensuring that there was more than enough sweet grass bedding covered with furs for the newborns. Kireena vowed that this time it would be different. They would not be newborn babes thrust into the life of nomads, born in the dead of winter.
No, if she thought correctly,they would take their first breaths of the winds of summer. It was the first ripple, the first shudder of pain that drove the red lioness from the den that eve. She knew her mate wouldn't be far behind - for how could she? Sybil had been nothing but the most steadfast of God damn BOULDERS since they met and she had quickly found the other red female held her heart securely and lovingly between her paws.
Kireena would pace, slow, steady steps back and forth as she worked through the first few hours of labor. There wasn't much to be done at this stage beyond keep moving and ride it out. It was the wee hours of the morning...because of COURSE it was by the time she would step back into the den and take a few careful turns to find a comfortable spot. Should Tiny or Thistle venture forward, she wouldn't turn either away. And of course, it was unspoken that she wouldn't chase away her mate.
There was an amused snort as she distracted herself at the nomadic stories of babes born before the dawn. Often considered a lucky sign, as their days were just beginning...but also something of a superstition in that children born just before day break would mean their parents would never again sleep past such hours. A silly superstition it was..but it helped to distract her enough from the physical discomfort that she could take comfort in the warmth of her mates hide, her gentle touch.
Not that she couldn't always take such comforts, but the druid did have a lot going on at the moment after all. Their children arrived swiftly once she got started and before she knew it, exhausted as she was...there were four small bundles of fur at her side. There was a strangled sort of sound that she tried hard to bite back though she knew Sybil and more than likely Tiny and Thistle would be able to hear it.
Emotion burned in the woman's throat, a hand gripping her jugular and squeezing uncomfortably. "Look at them...." Awe, a strained whisper, rheverent in tone. Each had their own unique color and she found that in and of itself more than a little amusing. Slowly, she would nudge them, ensure each was nestled between the fur of their bedding and the pale cream of her own belly. "I haven't...been able to believe it..even until a few hours ago. But now?".
Look what they had managed together... She would seek to lean heavily into Sybils side,a rumbling purr rising from her breast. The sounds she NEVER thought she'd hear again, especially at her own side was music to her ears. Enough so that it could lull her into a light sleep. Or...maybe that was the exhaustion talking.
