Sand... why the fuck did it have to be sand?

Of course, she already knew the answer seeing how her brother and niece had chosen the lagoon as their home but still? They'd never been allowed on the beach back home so why choose to live there now? Fenna sighed flexing her claws into the soft shifting grains under her feet feeling her paws itch from the sand getting into her fur and rubbing against her skin. She was very happy it wasn't her who lived on the sandy shores of the lagoon, no the mountains the band called home were far better than this place.

Thinking about it, she was excited to tell Dagge of her new life. Being a mercenary was freeing, no kings or nobles yelling at you or whispering behind your back. Just freedom, fights, company, good food and vine.

The mercenary finally reached the borders of the lagoon with a grunt she stopped at the invisible wall. Her nose twitched and her brows fell into a frown, something was different. The scent of the border had changed since her last visit. Did that mean someone had taken the Lagoon from the queens who ruled it before? Where Dagge and Darling still here? Her eyes narrowed and she stepped back a few steps. Her stance was neutral but a feeling of worry was building in her gut as she let out a chuff before calling specifically for her brother "Dagge, you home?".

Oh no, sand! So scary and…grainy. Eric couldn’t imagine as to why this woman looked like she was picking her way through sludge instead of lovely, golden swathes of beach. In fact, he made a mental note to be offended at her apprehension, as, now that he was the most handsome face of Scilla Lagoon, he was obviously #teamsand. She’d been calling for someone, a name he didn’t know but expected to belong to one of the lions who’d fled this place. The lagoon was quiet, peaceful, and so it would be till Cirilla and Ambrose started popping out babies left and right. It sort of pained him that his rank made it so that he should try and fill it up, he’d always imagined it’d just be him, Uma and Ambrose against the world. Not only did he have to accommodate for the surprise wife but a surprise pride as well. “Sorry, ma’am, but I think you’ve got the wrong beach,” Eric flashed the stranger a boyish smile, standing on the other side of the border. Part of him was ready to pat her on the rear and send her on her way! After all, this so-called Dagge was clearly not here. But he knew Cirilla and Ambrose had a couple of enemies, and he didn’t think it was right to chase her off before knowing whether she was going to go crying “Sigrun!” all over Amaryllis (though he didn’t know the implications of the surname quite yet). “Eric Björklund, at your service,” he bowed, quite theatrically, “I don’t know where Dagge is, but I’m sure I can make your visit worthwhile.” Pink umbrella drink? @Fenna But "Sentimental Boy" is my nom de plume “Speech” Art by Rach, Code by Swan (fixed by Cala)

A chuff comes stealing through the wintry air, bearing with it an amalgamation of scents both familiar and unfamiliar. She settles into a steady walk, tracking the source all the way to the border, where two voices come to her. One belongs unquestionably to Eric, but the identity of the other is less forthcoming. They sound subdued, calm, with Eric all but rolling out the red carpet for the stranger, and her ears draw back accordingly. Eric is too much like her brother; she supposes if he wasn't, he wouldn't have tolerated her beyond their initial meeting.

Still, they aren't rogues anymore. These are their lands now, and as such, they've become the focus of many eyes; some benevolent, maybe, but from her own experience, she's willing to bet that most are not, and so she draws alongside the palomino, firmly setting her outsized paw down directly before the invisible line of the border. "That's close enough, numbnuts." Scilla won't be easy pickings, and if she has to play bad cop to get that message across, so be it. Maybe she's a little out of touch, and maybe she's preemptively undone what could have been a perfectly amiable relationship, but she either doesn't seem to realize or plainly doesn't care. No, she'll leave the smiles to Eric— she's never been much given to those anyway.

The one who arrived at her call was not her brother.

Rather he was a pale man cloaked in the shades of sand. Pale but large and athletically built. He could have been a Yu if they were still in Beau, but his demeanor didn't match that of the rough-and-tumble family. "Not the wrong one" she spoke back in a neutral tone before adding "But it smells different" not like it had the last time she was here. "Fenna Yu" she offered as @Eric gave his name and offered her something. A fight? Fenna wouldn't turn down a spar but was that really what he had offered?

She didn't get to ask before someone else arrived.

The woman was large and brawny with multiple colors running through her coat. Mostly natural tones which made her look intricate without being blindingly flashy. Her tone and temper though? Well, probably a good thing it was the pretty lady who was yelling and being rude...

Fenna grinned a wide smile spreading on her lips as she dropped her neck and head to align it with her spine. Ears still fully turned to the pair and eyes sparkling with amusement "If the pretty lady wants to tussle all she has to do is ask"

“Aw, did you miss me?” Eric smirked as @Uma brushed past him, popping out the sand like the pinchy little crab she was. She immediately started spouting threats (classic Uma) and pointing out the imaginary line between them and the rogue woman. Rolling his eyes, Eric sighed and fell back as his fellow gentry undid all his beachside hospitality. He was about to offer an apology for his pet warthog’s rudeness, but something incredible happened. Eric saw it all happening almost as if in slow motion. The woman’s expression changed; a smile, the kind he knew so well, grew on face as Uma huffed and puffed. He could practically hear Cupid’s arrow whizzing through the air. And when she called her pretty, Eric turned to Uma with his mouth formed into a little, excited “o”. You know, most older brothers are supposed to keep others away from their little sisters. But Eric wasn’t like most brothers. Uma and @Fenna , sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G! “She’d love to tussle,” Eric attempted to push the brutish woman forward with a little head bump. “But if she wins, you have to do something for us.” And of course, in true Eric fashion, he couldn’t help but jest: “Don’t worry, it’s not a threesome.” But "Sentimental Boy" is my nom de plume “Speech” Art by Rach, Code by Swan (fixed by Cala)

Typically, her proneness to violence is met with violence in turn. There haven't been many exceptions to that rule; the only two perhaps standing here. She doesn't expect the anticipatory drop of @Fenna's head, her bichromal eyes brimming, and she certainly doesn't expect being called that word— pretty.

Rendered speechless, she flushes, surprise showing blatantly on her countenance. She senses @Eric looking at her, but dares not return his gaze for fear of what her expression might betray. Belatedly, she realizes she's been standing frozen, and is in the process of forcibly knitting her eyebrows back together when Eric unexpectedly presses into her rear, shunting her forwards.

"No, I don't. What the hell are you doing?" She protests guturally, uncharacteristically, not much liking the implication of those words. What's the big idea here? Now she's face to face with the woman, that woman and her grin, her stupid, shit-eating grin. Somewhere beyond the rushing blood in her ears, Eric spews something undoubtedly stupid, but with the lioness in such close proximity, Uma stops listening. Seeking to beat the other to the punch, she defensively brings up an unsheathed paw, trying to to strike the side of her face and wipe that stupid grin off.

That expression! That expression is gold!

Fenna fully amused by the reaction she'd gotten from the feisty lioness grinned even wider, her mismatched gaze locked on the woman. This was fun, this was great. Part of her had kind of expected @Uma to get even angrier at her words. Though this was a far better, a far greater outcome.

Though her happy grinning face wains for a moment as the woman starts to refuse her offer to fight. Disappointment pools in her belly, and is definitely also starting to show in her expression. @Eric says something but at this point, Fenna isn't really listening either, even less so as a paw is swiped at her face.

Unfortunately for Uma, her attack only brings the grin back.

Claws dig into her cheek and a burning sensation spreads through that side of her face as blood trickles from the wounds. Fenna instinctively closes the eye on that side of her face, to protect it. Though It doesn't stop her from grinning, from letting an amused rumble leave her chest. Fenna doesn't pull away from Uma's attack rather she attempts to leap into it. Fenna attempts to push off with her hind legs to throw her body weight towards Uma. Simultaneously she attempts to raise her front legs and wrap them around the other woman's shoulders claws unsheated attempting to grasp onto her.

Fun isn't exactly the word sitting at the forefront on her mind as she gazes into the lioness' grinning countenance. She's entertaining thoughts of hatred, murder, maybe, anything but fun. Her uncoordinated swipe strikes true, satisfaction coursing through her veins as blood scrawls from the wound. Well, maybe this will still be fun after all. The sentiment doesn't linger, with her opponent bouncing back from the impact easily, still eyeing her with that stupid damn grin. Blood trickles down the side of her face, and there is something about that picture which both thoroughly flushes and infuriates her at once. "Oh, you wanna smirk, do you?" She grinds out.

Confounding her once again, she then moves into her. The unanticipated leap catches her by surprise, and with no time to brace herself for what is to come, the woman grasps onto her. She can feel herself toppling, claws digging furrows into her skin. Meeting the other woman in kind, she attempts to loop her arms around her shoulders as she they fall. Uma hits the soil shoulder blades first, the air knocked out of her lungs. Tensing her whole body to accommodate the other's weight, she seeks to use their combined momentum to send Mrs. Smiles A Lot toppling over her, attempting to push her along with her hindlegs in a half-arc and, given she comes out on top, slam her forcibly into the ground.

And if she fails, well, maybe she'll come away leaving some nice marks on her belly as a consolation prize.

Her hug is returned as Uma's arms warp around her pulling them to the ground. Not that Fenna wouldn't have gone down with the other either way but no longer was she in control. Paws meet her lower belly and abdomen and Fenna attempts to twist herself to the side her arms losing around the other as she tries to avoid letting her opponent gain full control of her landing. She can feel the other's claws digging into her fur, then skin. More blood seeped from the new fresh wounds on her lower stomach and side.

Her body hits the sandy ground shoulder first then hip, pain bursts through her side. She'd be thankful they were fighting on sand later when the bruises grew under her fur. For now, though adrenaline rushed into her blood leaving pain and bruises a concern for the future. Fenna attempts to re gain a grab on the other, twisting herself in an attempt to grab onto some part of the other's upper body claws extended trying to dig into anything they can get a hold-off. At the same time, she attempts to kick, out toward the other with her hind legs.

They drop into the sand like dead weights, with @Fenna escaping the death roll by contorting deftly sideways. She's fast, she'll give her that, and annoyingly slippery, but her grip has not faltered, and with their continued close quarters, she can feel her claws successfully raking the soft skin on her side and belly. The other woman reinforces her own grip on her shoulders, claws digging deep there. Uma knows what comes next, gut clenching tight as she brings up her hind legs to defend against the incoming assault on her exposed stomach.

But with the woman's arms around her, her vision is obscured, and so she doesn't see the swing of her legs coming. They strike her directly in the abdomen, and she bares her fangs, letting out a tremulous, breathless snarl. All at once, she releases her hold on the other's shoulders, running her free paw across the soil in an attempt to send sand spraying into her eyes. If that isn't enough, she'll try to follow up with a ill-aimed lash of her other paw, hoping a fresh notch in her nose might encourage her to withdraw.
