Hunting in the desert, was sure to be different. Helah had scented prey, in the early dawn hours and that had drug her from her sleep. If prey was here, who were they to ignore it? She hauled herself to her paws, and languidly shook herself. She had very little "rush" to the whole waking up process, and when she finally deigned to move from her sleeping spot- she strolled on, to sniff at the trail the prey had left.

In the Bluffs, hunting was an art at times because the predicatment that prey found itself in... could often result in your death if you were stupid. Here, she saw no challenging surfaces and inwardly grumbled. How was she supposed to be entertained then? When she neared the scent, closer to the center of the Oasis- she fell into a crouch and chuffed softly, for anyone to join her.

"OOC: Remember only marked AO lions count, and don't forget the luck roll!"

The Oasis might not present the same sort of challenges to a hunt as the Bluffs did but it had it's own manner of pitfalls. The ground wasn't stable here with the shifting the sands. Not to mention that the sun itself was often an enemy as the sands drew in all of this heat and reflected it back. An extended hunt proved worse for the lions than it did for the prey. That is why Iofiel would always caution to keep most activities to dawn or dusk when the temperatures hadn't reached their extremes.

Of course one couldn't control when prey would present itself. Every morsel that was found was something to be desired. One could never predict when there would be a low in food. So when there was a call for a hunt the pale male made himself present for it.

Restless sleepy haunted her steps, that was her curse.

So when the faint sounds of moving through the sand was heard, Sersie's curiosity was certainly piqued. Quickly and quietly she followed, only after scenting not only another life lion, but the ruler herself and prey.

Suddenly her mouth--once full of sand, she swears-was salivating. Hunger was a real palatable thing and Sersie was more than happy to suffice in fixing it. The chuff from their leader was enough to encourage her further, slinking along the sands awkwardly, but doing her best. She waits with the other, for the prey to present itself, hind legs ready to uncoil and propel her body in that iconic awkward lope she possessed.

Harou prowls forward, his titan physique unraveling from the dregs of slumber. Across the desert dunes - gilded by golden heat - his athletic frame moves with a lupine swagger. He's eeriely calm, as he approaches the gathering lead by their queen @Helah. He can smell the scent of prey on the air; accompanied by the summer breeze - a bewitching caress of soon-to-be blood.

And it is not the hunger, that drives the beastly heathen from his temporary den. It is not a need to be with others either, for he does not care to mingle with them. Rather, a thirst, a hunger for the sport. To feel the blood against his tongue. And so Harou comes, quietly, lingering along the outskirts of the gathered leonine folk.

His eyes flash with feline anticipation, burning molten red at the sockets of his skull. His claws surge through the thick, pillowing sand, eager as he imagines his nails caressing - impaling - the flesh of their chosen prey.

Since having moved to follow their Queen into the Oasis, it could perhaps be said that Roussel had developed an overly appreciate love for the art of slumber. Why shouldn't he, when the realm of dreams offered such blissful shelter from the day's scorching heat and the nightly chill forever determined to nip at the pointed tips of his ears.

But maybe the in-between hours that marked the dawn of the new day weren't so terrible, he thinks, his jaws splitting open on a yawn when Helah's quiet chuffs dragged him gradually from the deep abyss of unconsciousness.

He can't not answer, even if the call hadn't been for him specifically, and creeps clumsily across the sands to see what this was about, bleary eyes sharpening with greedy interest when he realizes that his mother and her pets are about to hunt.

Would it be so terrible if he just...hung back a bit, to admire how Helah would surely paint a hoofed canvas in vibrant and beautiful shades of red? It's not the sluggish stiffness still clinging to his muscles that keeps the boy from volunteering to give chase, no, no, not at all...

Another yawn parts his jaws even as drool pools beneath his tongue, the evidence of his hunger dripping from the corners of his dark lips.

Walpurgis struggled to wake. Night and dreams clutched at her and she rose still partly asleep, feeling like her fur was coated in concrete. She moved stiffly, looking about in a gaze. What had woken her? She discarded the thought in favor of What was that smell? and drooling (a mix of old sleep-drool and fresh hunger-drool) and pacing, sniffing around the oasis pools for a better trail. Water often carried more delicious scents with it. Because prey liked to hunt there, duh. Try explaining the concept of humidity to her and see how far that got you.

She found a pile of scat at the base of a waxy frilled fern. "There's uh. There's food!" she hollered at the vague group of lions nearby and then, no other food being immediately apparently, she took a look at that plant. Interesting. She ran her fangs down and along its edges, using its delicious texture to scrape against her gums.

The creeping rise of the dawn light spins the shifting sand into a brilliant canvas of fiery gold, and across it, Helah and her pets spill the vibrant crimson of the gazelle's lifeblood in long, dripping swirls.

A beautiful gradient of red and orange. Naturally. It's to be expected that everything the Queen touches would become a work of art. Even better that it's an edible souvenir as well.

Of course it is the women who are deserving of the first bites, but while that was doubtlessly being sorted out, Roussel would slowly creep in closer from where he'd been observing on the sidelines, a pink splotch drifting not entirely stealthily down from the dunes until he was close enough to try to dart in and snatch a hunk of rich meat to totter off with. "Merci!" He calls back during his retreat, voice garbled and half-muffled.

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission, oui?

Well, maybe that wasn't an idea his father would approve of, but how would he know about it anyway? ...Besides maybe through the streak of prey blood still staining the boy's lips when he drifted off back to sleep with a full stomach.

Iofiel helps out where he can with the hunt. It had been an easy enough hunt given that only a single gazelle was on the menu to be had. The few members that had made up the hunting party were more than enough to take this single creature down.

Once the kill had been made the Lead Medic stood off to the side so that the other members of the hunting party could get at the carcass. The pale male bowed his head and silently mouthed a prayer of thanks. It was typical for him to think the prey for giving up their life and offering his respect to them. He'd had his fair share of Rwh within the Oasis and so he was trying to keep their ill-fortuned involvement to a minimum.

With his silent prayer done did the large lion turn and take his leave without sampling even a portion of the kill.
