The days had blurred into each other as Carina set out on a trail of something on the western edge of the Lagoon. Far from the water but still within the beach of their home, leaving a set of tracks as it wove its way through their home. This was about the one thing that she still felt she had a decent function over when everything else seemed empty. Carina remembered when she had found her sister lingering and lurking in the shadows, delivering brutal news that had nearly capsized Carina's fragile lifeboat. It had been Tiamat that had held it up and now, she felt like she was going under all over again. Thankfully, the hunt was one thing that could keep her mind from breaking.

Whether it were the new feelings blossomed from motherhood or the grief unable to be forged into proper words, Tinúviel had been especially touchy. Each passing glance was accompanied by tender nudges, reassuring hands. She'd felt less like a Queen and more like the thin thread that struggled to hold the Lagoon together, suspended in a stasis of grief and disbelief. The hurt did not subside, the year-long reign of their Queen burned into their hearts, wrenched away all at once, leaving the scar aching and blighted. And no matter how she tried, it were a wound Tinúviel could simply not fix.

She spotted @Carina near the outskirts of the territory, that same melancholy air hanging around her as it had the day she'd first delivered the news, but her gaze was intently focused on something, her body language attentive to the territory that surrounded them. A hunt, she supposed, and quick did her paws turn to join her. She came up beside the Lead Medic, a small, reassuring smile slipping onto her lips despite the sadness that lingered in her eyes. I'm here with you.

As life moved on day by day, moment by moment the stone faced man was trying his best to help keep things together. To keep things stable and moving. Patrolling the borders of the lagoon he was silent. Ever the watchful eyes and ears of the pride. Every once in a while he would look out at the sea longing to see Tiamat and her spicy baby coming out as if nothing had happened. Yet he knew in his heart that, that wasn’t going to be the case. Still he did hope that there was a small chance that they survived and washed up on some distance far away shore somewhere.

Having stopped and started to stare he sighed shook his head before continuing on his way. As he walked now he noticed @Carina and @Tinúviel looking like they were getting ready for a hunt and he decided to join them and offer his support. Attempting to gently bump the shoulder of both ladies before falling into place himself.

Hyperion had patrolled the borders earlier that morning with no particular excitement to report. Things were oddly quiet around the beach, despite them having some rough weather over the passed few weeks. The waves were finally starting to calm down, though they were still quite choppy in appearance. He would not be doing any swimming here, unless he wanted to have the same fate as their late High Sovereign.

His eyes were fixed on the clouds above and his nostrils flared as he drank in the scents of the atmosphere. The air was damp, but it did not smell like rain was coming. He could smell the salt from the sea and the stench of rotting fish on the beach, but nothing told him danger was afoot. The wind brought Carina's scent to him along with the scent of an ungulate nearby, and that was enough to put his current studies aside to join her.

While he was still on the way, more scents joined in, and he was content to share the moment with both the Heir and the High Sovereign as well. He eventually caught up to them, saying nothing, but trailing them quietly. Moods were still somber at the loss of their late queen Tiamat. He could understand that.

The prey that she had found wasn't much and she was slowly beginning to wonder why she had even bothered. Carina did her best to not look anyone directly in the eye for fear that they might see her shame as though she had called everyone here because she couldn't tackle a single flamingo. When they all managed to take it down she coughed and let her shoulders slacken. Thanks for showing. Sorry it was lame. It was a half-hearted tone but she meant it, her heart just was not as into it as it might have if Tiamat were still here. It was hard to find your own footing when the one who had constantly lifted you up and made you feel stronger was, as it was known to her, dead. @Tinúviel was a kind spirit who had taken over in lieu of a lot of somber and uncertain members and @Dagge was doing his best to keep spirits at least above sea level. @Hyperion was becoming more active with each passing day and she could feel that he was trying to make the best out of the situation. So Carina just held on, waiting for her pride mates to take what they wanted from their meager meal before she would set off and maybe find something else for them to hunt that wasn't so lame.

Eyes cast out looking towards the prey and he would raise a brow but said nothing. It didn’t matter if it was a single flamingo she was trying. Not many of the pride had came together to hunt so it wasn’t really that big of a deal. To him at least. He would see this as more of a workout than hunting to fill a hunger ping. "Birds can be tough. They tricky." He whispered very softly to @Carina trying to show that he wasn’t here to judge her.

Soon than they would be off and he for one wasn’t that graceful with hunting the little bird. Mostly he just blocked it’s path as someone else did more of the hunting work.

Each day they simply survived. And surviving was enough. Their small hunting party was enough to bring down their prey and continue to fill the bellies of needing Scillans, especially with their youngest cubs shedding their milk teeth and enjoying their first tastes of meat. Of course, the strange delicacy of flamingo was one she would perhaps keep their children away from, until they'd learned to preen the feathers from its flesh. But for an adult, it would be enough. She spared a small smile toward @Carina and @Dagge, before offering a final nod toward @Hyperion. Even the most somber of moments felt the slightest bit of relief in the thrill of the hunt, but it seemed as if they'd left the same way they'd arrived; weighted down by grief.

With the hunt done and Tinny having left to do whatever she was going to do he decided to walk the borders. Maybe he could find another pink bird for them. Or some fish? In any case he made his way away from those left. Head nodding as he was sure @Hyperion could handle putting the catch away. Or @Carina could since it was her hunt she had lead. Giving a nod to them he moved on down the beach to search and patrol some more. The hunt had been thrilling and all but it wasn’t enough for all of them so he wasn’t going to even try to take a bite. Let someone else have his part of it.

Of course, @Dagge was kind enough to give her some encouraging words that even though it was only a couple of birds that they were still a tough target. She gave a soft snort through her nose and a quick smile that disappeared just as quickly. Thankful that he was attempting to soothe her doubts and her sadness while also not being able to give a whole lot more. Quietly she stirred and moved to grab the flamingos as best she could before beginning to haul them back off to the cache for the children more or less. As she moved off, she could feel the weight of sadness plunging her into the darkness and as soon as she was out of ear shot she let her tears go. exit carina
