Prompt: The Summit is dizzyingly high, yet two warthogs seem to be wandering aimlessly. Are they lost?

Hogs bore dainty hooves far easier at climbing than most animals. More agile than some of the finer bobcats or mountain lions. Slit pupils peered at a distance to the robust bodies that browsed on shrubbery and other littered bits about the ground. Umbra undersides remained low to the ground, waiting for others of Illyria to arrive. They'd need to add the kills to the cache, or perhaps feed the cubs with such a marginal meal in comparison to larger prey. Multicolored locks fanned around the sides of his face as neck turned to allow vision to travel with the hogs, ensuring the pride didn't loose sight of the meaty bits to be stored away. He dared not call for anyone else to come in fear the beasts would run off, perturbed by the clarion sound of a predator on their trail.

nine years, no perks

She actually hadn't thought any prey would wander up this high, so when she caught the faint scent of warthog on the wind she found herself quite surprised. It had also been years and years since she had hunted in the mountains, which meant she didn't know how this was going to go. At least it was a relatively simple prey animal to go after, so she could get some practice.

And of course, there was the fact that she was getting up there in years and hunting wasn't necessarily going to be possible for her for all that much longer, but she wasn't going to think about that right now.

Her pelt blended in beautifully with the landscape, so she wasn't too concerned about the pair of warthogs noticing her approach as she came to join the sole other member of the pride who had gathered at this point. She didn't know him, but he was a fascinating riot of colors that she couldn't spend too long pondering at the moment, but certainly would later.

It was also the scent on the wind that drew Alvena, and much like her mother she had reservations about her ability to hunt in this terrain because not only had she never had to, but she also had only recently learned to hunt at all. Her skills were still being honed, and she suspected this might be a challenge, even with the relative easiness of their prey.

At least, she thought as much until she came to join the man who was watching the beasts, and realized her mother was standing beside him and she hadn't seen her until she turned her head and Alvena's gaze was attracted to the movement and the flash of blue of her eyes. Jeeze, her mom hadn't been kidding about her blending in with the snow. Which meant that she could too, sharing her mom's predominant coloring and all that.

Well, as long as she shoved her socks into the snow and no one noticed her nose blaze and ear tips. But from the back you couldn't see her.

Little escaped the notice of the Summit. Velimor had fallen behind the warthogs, having caught their scents upon the border as he'd patrolled it. With the winter in full swing, their hunting parties were driven further and further southward, and Velimor's duties had been restricted mostly to guarding the borders. Whether it was because he was a large and imposing presence or simply not that great at hunting was left to be argued, but the man did not mind; and what bliss it was to have delightful surprises slip past his nose.

By the time he caught up to the warthogs, there were already others keen on their trail. The steady trot on thin mountain air having long been quite the workout for a male of his age and experience, but the burn in his lungs was a welcome one, and the adrenaline that flushed through him now seemed to ache at the idea of the chase. As others converged on his path, Velimor moved to fill in where they fell short; taking up positions along their flank as they ravaged hungrily after the warthog.

Dumah followed the warthogs' progress with growing admiration – they were much swifter than he had given them credit. Perhaps the ones he had hunted in the jungles were a different beast altogether. But how to bring them down? An intellectual incentive presented itself to the Caelinus lion, and he purred internally in delight. The foremost challenge would be how to reach the prey, kill it, and then bring it down from the slopes.

Others had gathered before Dumah, as he fell into position at the front. By his reckoning, he could work together with those of a similar age to lure the prey towards the older male. His attention is drawn toward movement in the snow, unsure of what he is perceiving. Startled by the sight, vapour leaves his mouth as he exhaled. Gradually, two pale leonine shapes emerged, both lionesses he is passingly familiar with from his days in the Rainforest. Dumah blinked, momentarily unsettled by a lion's coat, a fascinating artist's canvas of colour and pattern. God only knows how that male hunted, he wondered, before craning his neck to watch the hogs.

She has taken to patrolling the borders to clear her mind, wanting to take in the scenery while also ensuring that their borders were safe. Every now and again she would come to a halt, taking in the scents before strengthening their markers. It was while on her patrol that she had caught wind of the warthogs, bringing a subtle bemused smirk on inky lips. Warthogs were such finnicky creatures, looking somewhat harmless but full of causing serious injury. She knew that two wouldn't be a match for the Summit but you still had to take precaution.

Isla would make her way toward the growing hunting group, tail sweeping behind her while she acknowledged them all with a dip of her maw. @Dumah's question about a plan would cause for an ear to flick, mismatched gaze moving from the warthogs to the male. If enough show, the majority of us can corral them toward a couple and bring them down." It wouldn't be a hard plan to execute, all they need were a couple more bodies and watch out for any crumbling rocks near the edges of the mountain.

Since joining the Summit, Avana had sunken into herself. She thought it could be the same as Firnen since so many others had followed to their new home, but yet again, her family had grown smaller. Not everyone was here yet, and the Hodari was feeling the absence more and more each day. In an effort to not be a total recluse, though, the strawberry lass forced herself from her den today.

The stirring of movement along the mountain trails drew her attention enough to follow. Quickly, Avana picked up the scent of warthogs as well as some of her own family. Before too long, a small group of lions were in sight. Majority were familiar, but it would only be @Faelyn and @Alvena that the Hodari neared. The prospect of a hunt was evident, and so the maned woman simply slipped in along the group ready to help.

seven years, no bonus
Quiet footfalls as she wandered close to where the two warthogs aimlessly traveled. A poor pair of innocent lives that were no doubt persuaded by Maua's grace to move into a land of predators. Ones that would not pass on the opportunity for a decent meal or to store their deceased carcasses away. Taking on a hunt felt a lot more her speed nowadays and gave her even more of an excuse to pray to their Creator and to give thanks for the bounty that she presented to them. More than ever she wanted Maua to know that she was there and she was listening, waiting and watching. That her faith continued to hold steady and she refused to let it be diminished by those that did not understand.

well, he weren't one to ever shy away from a hunt.

the idea of breakin' a sweat in the cold, though, is enough to give him pause. and maybe if @Dumah werent' already there, doe might've just kept to himself. but, alas, his friend was already here and doe weren't no quitter. powerful limbs carry him forward, drawin' up alongside his friend with a low little chuff. not loud enough to disturb anyone ( least of all their dinner ), but just enough for him to know he was there. not that doe was hard to miss. the plan, he drawls, shootin' his friend a simper, is to catch us some dinner. his brows wiggle, hopin' to entice a smile outta the straight-laced boy. this many lions against one hog.... well, doe knew he were placin' bets on. still, he nudges his shoulder against his friend's as he moves forward, slinkin' along the mountain rock, intendin' to lead the hunt if no one else wanted to. the rocky terrain were dangerous, sure, but it'd make it easy to funnel the creature where they needed him to be.
