With the world at peace once more, Leila prowls out at dusk to hunt. The slopes are icy, bitterly cold and prey has been more scarce as of late. But tonight, the moon was rising over a still, winter wonderland and there were clear tracks of something hoofed heading down the slopes of Wolfbron Bluffs.

Leila lets out a soft chuff for her pride mates, a questioning call for a hunt, as here is opportunity. In winter, it would not do well to squander such chances. Settling into the rocks for others to gather, she watches to see where the ambling animal prints might go and imagining the warm meat that soon awaited them.

There is quiet in the wake of the challenge. A hushed peace that settles in with winter, and Louve welcomes it. While much weighs on her mind (always) she snatches at the opportunity to leave it all behind for a moment or two and hunt. Leila's summons does not go unanswered, the sovereign slips from her den to join her striped friend.

"Bonjour," she murmured quietly as she brushed up against the tigress before settling at her side to wait for the rest to join them. A hot, fresh meal would do them wonders in the bitter cold of winter.

And though at first her presence had made him feel uneasy, different species and all, he had adjusted surprisingly well. But that could have been because she was a very valuable asset to the bluffs. She had been expending her time getting to know the place she now called home, learning the scents, familiarizing herself with the features it held, with the weather and any danger she supposed she needed to be aware of in order to make herself a very valuable member. In the past challenge she had taken the responsibility to guard the food caches, she knew in events like this there could be individuals that would take the mess into their advantage and steal from them. And thus instead of showing up she guarded their resources.

Now that the danger had passed(for now), she felt ready to do more now that she was less lost in her new pride. And nothing better than joining a hunt, she joined and made sure to pay attention, learn from it and make sure to be of use.

Aideen was grateful for her thick fluffy fur, with this cold icy weather that had gripped the Bluffs. She was prowling around in the dusk hours, using the icy weather as a means to work on her strength, as she hauled herself up and over the icy rocks and up the icy cliffs. She knew it was more important that she could pull herself back up when she slipped- then it was to being fast. She also enjoyed the fact that the icy rock was a good way to sharpen her claws, which she was doing when she spotted movement below. Her ears pricked as she recognized the tiger who seemed to lead all the hunts and then... another male, and then @Louve! Aideen scrambled down the ice, as fast as she could- practicing her speed now as she barreled down towards Louve- to join the hunt.

Laerra was always happy to lend her jaws and claws to the act of a hunt; however, she couldn't abandon her jaunt just yet. The day had brought her a loop around the bluffs borders. Carefully analyzing the scent markers to make sure that they weren't weakened in any places or if an outsider had attempted to cover it with their own. Nothing of the sort was found (much to Laerra's hopes of finding trouble), and so she swallowed her dismay and wandered to the hunting call.

Moving to @Aideen's side and bumping her shoulder with loving aggression before she pulled a nearby rock close by and starting scraping her claws along it. If only to get them a little sharpened for the prey ahead. It wouldn't be a fantastic sharpening but it was better than having dull ones. Surely Aideen had done the same already if not, Laerra was happy to share her rock. Gazing quickly to @Louve and offered much the same greeting that she had done moments ago but had no idea, bonjour. It wasn't spoken with near as much grace or fluidity as those born and speaking it since birth but she had been practicing.

While she waited, she began to brush a portion of the dirt at her paws onto her body. Rolling as if she were in slow motion as to not attract anyone's attention in an effort to disguise the lionish bluffs scent from her pelt. Laerra would happily take the roll of chasing if only to be able to get an ambush going. Rubbing up one of the near dying trees and feeling confident that she was concealed scent-wise or at least near to it.

Only then did she began to look around for the best spot to do so from. Eyeing a particularly dense foliage area that was centered around the prey's flank side, angled perfectly so that it was decently shaded enough to cover her at least for a few minutes. Wandering that way she passed a few spots that she almost decided was better but as stubborn as she was, she stuck to her first choice. At least in this one area the trees would protect her and she could duck behind several bushes if she needed to.

They managed not one but two meaty elephant calves and for that, Laerra was most grateful and excited to have downed. It was no adult elephant or giraffe, but it was pretty damn close. Eyes fled up to the upper tiers of the Bluffs and began to track her eyes along its facing to get a better idea as to what trail they could take going up. One side of the Bluffs had a significant less amount of snow and would be the easiest to trail but the other had significantly larger cache spaces that needed replenishing. If they went through the easiest one the storage would be quite packed but to the safety of the others, it was the more viable option.

So Laerra began attempting to lug one of the lesser-eaten calves up the trail she thought would be the easiest to navigate through. Expecting @Aideen to either help with this one she carried or to attempt to grab the other one. When in doubt, take it upon yourself to do all the work rather than expect others to do it for you. That was what Laerra had most certainly been learning lately was that if you want it done correctly, you do it yourself.

@Louve is the first to rally to her soft call, and Leila offers her a fond snuffle of greeting as the woman’s chartreux pelt comes into sight. She nudges a shoulder back into the Sovereign as she brushes past, pleased to hunt with her once more. “Hello.” she hums, eyeing the messy prints. They were small, but now the tigress realised they were likely elephant. Very bountiful, should they catch it.

Leila greets Tripfire with a nod too, but much more reservation than she had Louve. He was large, and she didn’t know him too well. The dark yearling too - though she does smile toward Aideen and @Laerra, trustworthy hunting partners she’d come to enjoy spending time with. Even if there was rarely much chat involved.

They take to the trail, and Leila is surprised and deeply pleased that their targets are two elephant calves - not just one. With natural teamwork the two creatures are swiftly taken down and Leila nods happily. “Very good, everyone.” she lifts her voice approvingly. Another successful hunt under her watch. Leila was sure it was skill by now, rather than the luck she’d suspected some time ago. She settles back in satisfaction as others feast.

Seeing @Aideen move to start shifting the second creature, Leila pads over eagerly to assist. “Let me help.” she insists, ducking to take the other side in her jaws - muffling her next words. “Ah’follow y’.”

It was Laerra, that Leila was helping, not Aideen. But, it was a common mistake and not one that truthfully needed all that much correcting. One day perhaps her pride could tell them apart but not today and not yet. So with the tigress moving in to assist her, Laerra offered her a gentle head nod to accept the help with grace. It wasn't very often that she voluntarily received help but when she did, she could be thankful and not hardheaded.

Eventually the pair began moving it off and out, travelling the way back up the Bluffs in an effort to store it. Seeing the other carcass had begun moving up to be stored meant that she didn't have to go back so she looked swiftly to @Leila with a confident smile. Thank you for the assistance. I'm Laerra, by the way. If this were a neutral hunt she likely would've just gone on her merry way but they were pridemates, making them a lot more important than strangers meeting in the neutral lands.

Once the pleasantries were set and out of the way, Laerra took to venturing to one of the nearby ledges to try and re-cover her scent. Brushing into the light snow and dirt and dust that might still be relevant at their altitude. Before roaming down to the lower edges and continuing the process, so that she would smell a little less like a bluffs lion and more like a dirty rogue. exit laerra
