Sedona was waiting, watching. While it was not unusual for her to be awake at all hours, she had enough sense to know that many lions preferred to be asleep in the darkness. The young lioness sat with an eye on the sky, waiting for the sunlight to break over the horizon enough to officially mark the start of morning. There was a glowing haze over the oasis that winter dawn, thick cloud cover masking much of the sun's light even as it rose. With a steady, subtle chuff, Sedona announced her intentions for breakfast.

She rose to her paws toward the edge of the oasis itself, her senses peeled as she drank in the scents of Andal through parted lips. Twitching her tail, she signaled for the Andalian lions to begin their steady pursuit of that tantalizing unknown. Sedona did not know how to be a queen, that much was true; but, a hunt? She knew in her very bones how to lead a hunting party to victory.

As usual, hunts were not exactly her forte but that was one of the many things that she could most certainly participate in that did not make her feel like a fool or worse. An activity that at least other lions could see that she wasn't a complete waste of space and could actually give benefit to them by helping. So Zelda approached @Sedona with a tight smile and took a look around. Not exactly sure what they were hunting but given the chilly breeze that rolled a hell of a lot of sand over the dunes of the oasis, she imagined it wouldn't be anything grand. Of course, she liked to be surprised too and would happily welcome something a bit larger than her fat head. Just like herself, prey didn't often move fast over the sand and she hoped that whatever they were going to be chasing was going to have a tough time.

Léonie could not be ordered to stay in her den. Oh, she was perfectly capable of sleeping all day, but only when she had made the decision to. She would not be made to do anything, and the fact that someone had even tried only pushed her to be act out.

Defiantly, the imp stepped into the morning light, lured out by the sound of @Sedona calling for a hunting party. There was no better breakfast than something fresh and hot, especially in winter. It was a good excuse to join the pipsqueak.

Léonie arrived to find that @Zelda had already joined, but it seemed that most of the pride was still slumbering. Good — less competition for food. The Miroslav nodded at her, thinking she’d excuse her uncharacteristic silence, given the scabbed wounds that marred her throat.

Her hazel eyes changed direction then, and Léonie’s focus went to Sedona. She greeted her with a wink and a smile, then moved to join her free side, nodding at the territory before them — a cue to hurry up, before someone realized she’d ditched bedrest.

Valerian often rose before dawn, a fretful and light sleeper often disturbed by the movements of the pride and wildlife. As such he is already up and about when the call for a hunt lifts into the still morning air. The Savante man pauses briefly, considering whether he wanted to assist, before decided that really... he had little better to do at that moment.

So he wanders over, finding the hunting party already moving about the lush surroundings of the oasis. A grunt rises to greet @Sedona, @Zelda and @Léonie as Valerian wordlessly joins in. He was by rule, not the talkative sort and before breakfast even less so. But he'd hang out and pull his weight - sure. Wisely, he follows the women's lead.

3y, no bonus Septima was.. empty. There had once been a time when she had thought her heart was so hollow it would never beat again, but the grief then paled in comparison to the grief she experienced now. It had taken every ounce of her willpower to clean herself up enough to leave the den, let alone go into a public gathering and attempt to hunt. She knew despite her best efforts that she was haggard looking, but there wasn't anything more she could do. The lack of sleep and tired eyes would stay with her for many months, but she settled into the hunting party regardless. She said nothing, looked at no one, only stared blankly ahead at their prey.

Anything to get away from the fuckin' kids. Nephthys had never really been one for the big, warm and fuzzy group hunts where everyone swayed in a circle in camaraderie at the end. She was more of a fast food gal, preferring not to linger longer than necessary for her own sake. Sometimes the introverted batteries just needed a solid recharge, you know? Besides, being constantly surrounded by children already depleted those batteries to nothing. Neph was cruising on empty as she trundled up to the hunt and yawned, letting it be known how much she was terribly suffering from having birthed the next generation of shitheads.

Breakfast is a very important meal, especially for a king. When Scorpius finds himself caught up on his duties, his wife calls a hunt, and he certainly wishes to attend. Even if that means supervising rather than participating... If he can get away with it.

He finds the group gathered with Sedona in the lead, and he drops to his belly at the back of the group. Either he'll get away with a free meal or be roped into being the weight behind the takedown - either way, he's better off staying out of the way of the faster lions.

Léonie had never expected that the hunt would end with them chomping on elephant calves. She’d assumed the trail would lead them to easy, snack-sized prey, so when they came across a pair of orphaned pachyderms instead, her mouth quickly began to water. Léonie glanced over her shoulder and when she found @Scorpius in the rear, the imp pointed with her paw and smiled, mischievous and obnoxious. He would have to be the one to drag one back.

However, being the most wonderful sister ever, she helped. Once the party had surrounded their prey and pulled the pair down, once the hunt was over, Léonie moved to assist Scorpius. Dropping her head, the twerp clamped her teeth on the trunk of their calf, to pick it up and hold it out of the way — lest her dear brother stumble over it on the way home.

Beaming, Léonie gave the trunk a yank, to encourage her brother. Come on, she was hungry.

Two elephant calves that did not stand a chance in the presence of the lions. Sometimes Zelda wondered how there was any prey left in Amaryllis at all. Either there were a lot more of them than she thought or they truly multiplied like nobody's business. Or both; she wouldn't shame anyone for their extracurricular activities, after all. So when they felled the two beasts almost simultaneously, Zelda caught her breath as quickly as she could before beginning to scout the nearest trail to the cache. Thankfully, as she watched and paid attention to the trails around the Oasis she could get a fair hint at where the closest one was. Looking at the areas that were ground down into compact sand and the weave between the sparse trees she was certain she could see a little alcove where they could store at least one of these creatures. Looking to the sky she could swear that rain was on its way in the next half hour so she made busy work to try and help to haul one of the calves away with whoever else wished to do so. exit zelda
