Quitting is not an option

Time was never in anyone's favor, not to mention that food was a lacking resource in winter. Had she been on her own winters wrath would provide nothing but a grand challenge to beat. But the warrioress was not alone, her brother's daughter followed in her wake after the girl's mother had left her with Fenna. A foolish story it was, but Darling was blood and Fenna would not abandon family no matter how much of a headache it could be at times.

The lioness turned her head to look ahead the sandbar provided them a bridge into the unknown. Ahead of them on the horizon, the faint blue peaks of mountains stretched for the sky and the salty scent of the ocean invaded her nose. "Keeping up?" she questioned casting a glance over her shoulder expecting to see the pale girl nearby. Not that she had any doubt her niece was keeping up. The young girl was a Yu after all and a bit of sand and snow should hardly prove a challenge for a fighter in the making.

Like her aunt could out pace the firecracker. Darling had been upset with her mother at first for shooing her away with her aunt but @Fenna was more fun. Though it had only really been a matter of time before mother had gone and gotten tired of her. Mother had shooed off papa after all. Someone who she had looked up to.

In any case the pink eyed girl bounced a long after her aunt trying to snap at and catch the older lioness’s tail with her teeth. She was hungry, but she was also restless. Playful, and so full of youthful energy. "Yep!" She chirped as she let out a small playful growl.

No, the vague threat of ongoing personal crises could not keep him from his efforts to grow the pride. Their numbers were pitiful, and he didn't really understand it. Who didn't want to live in a shady jungle?

They were a distant pair, and he kept an easy, causal (non-threatening) pace. With certain others so keen to spread nasty rumors, making a good impression would go much further toward salvaging what reputation he might properly build as a leader without an agenda. Ryker would pause once a comfortable distance away, and offer the pair a light grin, "Hey there." One about his age, one youth. The lioness would be a good addition, but the kid looked old enough to start helping out, too. "Looking for directions or a place to settle?" If they knew where they were going, he wouldn't waste anyone's precious time. "If it's the second, I have a comfy rainforest not too far away." Well, okay, technically it was, like, the opposite end of Amaryllis, but, hey, it was easier to get to than the mountains or something.

The gentry had to be very calculated on how he addressed every single rogue that came across the passage. Every lion was so vastly different and it was hard to truly know what they were going to find. He knew that the Summit was not necessarily a recruiting type so he truthfully didn't take it personally when he and the pride got rejected. This time it was a middle-aged lioness and a young, pink-shaded little girl that he spied first before his eyes caught to the zebra-esque new forest King.

Welcome, he drawled as he crossed the open space between them and nodded his head to both of the adults before looking to the young @Darling. Hello there, he spoke with kindness but his voice was a little too deep to display a whole lot of sweet cooing that a mother could do. I am Jafar Casales, as introduced himself as his eyes swam from child to lioness and his body moved from a low crouch (from saying hello to the kid) to standing. I am Gentry, coming from the Summit to the far northeast. I imagine the two of you must be hungry and quite tired. The journey is almost always long. Surely they had traveled a long way and wanted some rest and sustenance.

Humored, maybe, that Ryker believed the Forest to be on the other end of Amaryllis when the Summit was even further. Hey, what's that? he asks quietly pointing out a tiny little lizard that braved the four lions to venture across their paths. Hoping to grab the exuberant child's attention and give her something to distract her from the boring droll of adult talking as well as the exhaustion that would set in if she let it. I can offer you safety for you and your child, there was a small reflection of a paused as he made the assumption that the girl was hers but either way, surely she wanted to look after the babe. We are large and capable, food and security. The Summit would protect them no matter what. If they wore the Summit's colors and danger crossed them, the mountain members would rise up.

With the Cove so close to the Passage, Keligan would once more take his journey to the place of recruiting. It was a short trek. An easy one for any of those who had weary paws from their travels. But he would not be the first to show. No, instead @Ryker and another lion were already doing their recruiting talks to two lionesses. Strolling on up, Keligan would smile and dip his head. As they have also done their speeches, I am Keligan of Caladan Cove. A pride not a far from here, just beyond the Passageway. This island is called Amaryllis. A place that homes eight prides. Looking at @Jafar, he had not been deaf to the fact that he was from the Summit, but it would not come to a fight between them now.

The sight of her bouncing niece had an amused smile playing on the lioness's lips. Such energy, such terrible little teeth... Fenna was flicking her tail a bit more than necessary, very much aware she risked the limb becoming a chew toy for her niece if she caught it. Perhaps she should turn and take a playful swipe at @Darling. Have her use some of all that energy up before the little girl built up too much of it and exploded. Could also be a great lesson in how to deal with a larger opponent, and just plain old fun in the best Yu way possible.

Though the arrival of another and his greeting drew away the lioness's attention and stilled her flicking tail. His words carried no introduction other than Fenna assuming him the king of a rainforest. "Both," she told him though the arrival of @Jafar drew her attention away. The bronze man was apparently a gentry from a summit further away. His words to her niece also drew her gaze to the critter. A distraction, something Fenna wasn't sure she liked or not. As a protector having her charge distracted could make it harder for the lioness to step in if this turned ugly. Though his next words drew confusion onto her face. "My niece" she corrected him though said nothing else as a blue lion joined them. @Keligan reeked of salt and sea, likely from the cove he called home. Though the blue man also explained more about this place. He named the land Amaryllis and spoke of eight prides, kingdoms, scattered around.

"Im Fenna, we seek shelter and a lion." she spoke hopefully answering the rainforest king's first question. "What do your kingdoms stand for, what do they need from us" she asked looking between the three men. The warrioress had been burned once already and while she knew they needed shelter she did not wanna get thrown for the vultures again. "And will they allow us to seek and join our kin if we find him?" an important part of the deal. As much as Fenna wanted to challenge the men and find the strongest among them. She also had to consider her niece's safety. Unless she intended to wait for the girl to grow strong enough to free herself when they find her father.

The swing of @Fenna and her tail moving more than needed made the child happy. Trying to catch it. Trying to bite it. Doing what her mother had shooed her away for doing one too many times. Being unladylike and trying to bite. Though as Fenna became still the game became boring and she stopped. Twitching and fidgeting she turned her gaze to @Ryker. He was a stranger but had a nice long tail maybe she could have it to play with. Yet it was @Jafar and his words on arrival that drew her attention to a nearby lizard. "Ooo! I bite!" She didn’t asked but she elaborated with three or two and a half little words. Moving towards the creature she lowered the front half of her body wiggling her rump in the air from excitement as she growled at the thing who didn’t seem to give a care in the world. Being distracted she had missed @Keligan and his arrival. As the adults talked she’d keep herself busy.

If he had known that he was making the lioness feel a little more anxiety trying to ease the cub, he would have halted what he was doing pronto. Even if it was only to point her to a cool lizard that was hopping by; so much for thinking he was doing the right thing. Ah, my apologies. A niece, then. Jafar promptly wondering if something had happened to her parents that had made their union here necessary. Attempting to find connection with @Fenna and not knowing if he was making progress or failing.

The Summit is many things. We do not keep lionesses against their will. We value strength and we value diligence, and whatever help can be given. If only mentioning not keeping them against their will (which was true) because she mentioned looking for a lion which meant there was someone out there that they were specifically looking for. Though, she made no mention of what their name was and he did not intend to pry. Should you join the Summit, you will be allowed to leave to join your kin. No questions asked. If he knew anything of Morrigan was that she was ruthless but she was also kind beyond measure. She knew the value of family just as he did and how being apart from them was immeasurable torture.

Purple eyes gazed down at @Darling as she exclaimed about the lizard and kept herself busy with growing at it. A part of him longed to mention that he had children a few months younger than her that she could interact with but he also didn't want to seem like he was just trying to sweet the pot, either. If she chose him, he wanted it to be because of the pride and its purpose and not simply because he was bribing her personally.

'Both', she said, which was promising. A friendly nod was given to @Keligan as he arrived, a semi-familiar face and friendly presence. And a glance was cast at @Jafar as he spoke up first, but his own turn would come soon enough and Ryker shrugged one shoulder casually, "Firnen values strength and ability and encourages effort and improvement." Which was the fancy way of saying he expected members to be working rather than idle. "And," a light half-smirk was cast at the little girl (@Darling), "it's full of small, quick, things to chase and bite." A little huntress in the making, maybe?

"If you find your family, we can discuss options. I won't lie and say I wouldn't prefer they join you instead of you leaving." He made it good-natured in tone, light, and it wasn't even a lie. He'd be perfectly willing to talk about how they might handle getting @Fenna's family back together. "Do you have a name for the lion you're looking for?" It was a place to start, at least. And, hell, if it was a recognized name, and the lion was a member of an allied pride, Ryker might even point her toward him instead.

(We are just gonna ignore his lack of pride/rank cause he had one xD)

@Fenna spoke of her name and said she was looking for a lion before asking the questions that usually were asked in this place. Listening to the other two lions speak first, it was @Ryker who asked the question that Keligan was going to. The Cove values each other, our allies and ability. Everyone does their part. As far as leaving, Gauthier wouldn't force you to stay. Flicking his ear, he then added onto what Ryker asked, A name for the lion would be useful. One of us might know him. Personally, if I do know the lion, I can take you to him and you can join the pride if he's in one. Or invite him to be at the Cove with you, should you both join. Making a motion of his head towards @Darling to indicate who else he was talking about. With @Jafar being a part of the Summit, there was little acknowledgement to him by Keligan.
