Renfri was on the hunt for herbs, hoping that her specialty in poisons would allow her to still recall some of her earlier teachings in medicinal plants as well. She’d never paid much attention to those parts of her lessons, much to her regret now. At the time she’d been young, convinced that the art of healing was reserved for those not strong enough to fight. Her mother had pushed for her to take a less dangerous route in life and that had only pushed her further in the opposite direction, making her resent any lesson that didn’t pertain to her chosen fields of interest. As she walked, her eyes were drawn repeatedly to the castor bean and acokanthera, neither of which would be helpful to her now. @Reah |
Now she had an entire empire to rule, and she would not allow herself to be stuck in a den any longer. The woman hobbled through the grasses, catching the familiar scent of @Renfri. She was just beyond the borders of the Plains, technically in Celosia Fields now. Reah moved, as quiet as she wanted to be, she ended up rustling all the grass around her. She plopped down on her butt, glancing at the woman.
Sweet Renfri, you look quite busy, she purred.

She hadn’t strayed far past the prides borders, but it still surprised her to hear the voice call out to her. Her head snapped up to fix her gaze on @Reah, now sitting in the grass a short distance away. She’d heard the approach, but had assumed it was someone else. Perhaps Aeistrios or Neytiri, or someone else she hadn’t yet met. “You’re far from your den for someone with a broken wrist.” She replied, ignoring the fact that she, too, walked with a limp. The puncture wounds on her paw were deep, and it hurt to put pressure on it. If she was honest though, the fact that Reah was out here with her injury was a point in her favor, in Renfri’s mind. She lowered her gaze back to the grasses then, her frustration mounting as she spotted flowers that she recognized, but whose properties she could not name. “I was looking for herbs to treat my paw with. I don’t suppose you’re well enough to help me with that?” |
I don’t like being cooped up in a den if I’m being honest, she murmured. She refused to stay idle, especially now that she had the pride to watch over. She knew Aeistrios and Renfri could handle things just fine, but the more numbers they had, the stronger they were.
Renfri then spoke something about the injury on her paw, and Reah glanced over the wound. She couldn’t help but smile a bit,
Well, you’re in good company. I’m not sure if Aeistrios told you but I know how to heal and mend.she informed the Saxe. Reah looked over at the plants that Renfri had been expecting,
Those won’t do you any good unless you’re trying to murder someone.she said. Reah wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what Renfri wanted to do, the Brook were annoying, and other than that some truly rotten individuals roamed the lands of Amaryllis.
Also, if you come closer, I can take a proper look at your paw,she finally added. Reah was fine with coming towards her but, it was probably best she didn’t waste any more injury. Especially if Renfri wanted to be given proper care from Reah.

Renfri could relate to the woman’s comment about not doing well when cooped up and nodded her understanding. She needed to be up and moving, doing something productive. Pretty much the exact opposite of her husband, but it worked well that he mostly stayed out of her way, and was always easy to track down when she did want his attention. Really, she couldn’t have asked for a better set up. At her comment on the lethal herbs the Noble had been glaring at, she flashed the Sovereign a wicked grin. More often than not, that was exactly what she was doing. At Reah’s offer, though, Renfri relents in her efforts and moves closer, sitting just in front of the medic. She raised the wounded paw, which had puncture wounds on the top and bottom from where the Vermeda male had grasped her in their fight. There were a few gashes along herside, but those wounds were shallow and had been well cleaned. If @Reah wanted to look those over as well she wouldn’t complain, but those were much better off than her paw. “How long have you and Aeistrios been together?” The question came suddenly, figuring that she didn’t know much about the woman and now was as good a time as any to start learning. |
Well, we originally met last spring, she began,
By last summer, we ended up together, she added. A whole season of being by his side, but it was mostly almost always by his side. Even within a single season, Reah had ended up heavily attached. She was an obsessive individual when it came down to it.
Reah paused for a moment and shifted so her satchel had now fallen in front of her. She used her nose to open it and carefully grabbed a plant called Usnea. She glanced at Renfri,
Normally I would crush this into a poultice with my paws, she began to explain, however only using one paw would take a considerable amount of time. So Reah carefully grabbed the plant and began to gnaw at it instead, a work around to still create the poultice. Once it was properly crushed, she placed it upon Renfri’s wounds upon her paw. She was sure it stung, but in the end it would help the mending process.

She was surprised to hear that the pair had not known each other that much longer than Renfri had known Aeistrios. Given her former marriage to had been to his younger brother, she assumed he’d have claimed his first wife quite some time ago. It led her mind to wonder if Reah really was the first, and if not, what had kept him from making a move before her? Everything she had learned of him so far indicated he was not the type to beat around the bush with those things, and she could already tell it wouldn’t be long before there was another wife to contend with beyond the two of them. Another thought that led her mind wandering down yet another train of thought. If there were new wives, there was no telling how ambitious they might be. It might be wise of her to make an ally out of the melanistic woman now before she had to worry about more lionesses coming for the seat of power she’d taken in the family. She only half heard the woman speak as she went on to explain how she would normally prepare the poultice. She kept her expression polite, nodding when appropriate, but she’d never cared much to hear the healers discuss their craft when they tended to her wounds. Her love of plants began and ended with the deadly, and she would much rather have her flesh ripped apart than listen to a single lesson on how to mend the damage. That work would be left to those who had the patience and empathy for such things. “Has Aeistrios told you much about me, or where I came from?” Renfri had turned up as the estranged, abandoned wife of his younger brother, and he had been quick to claim her for himself. She wondered if their husband had told @Reah much beyond a name and her new status as wife and Noble when she first joined the pride. It seemed his style to leave out the details that likely seemed inconsequential. Renfri herself knew little to nothing about the Queen beyond what she had witnessed herself, and if they were going to lead together, and lead their family together, they ought to get to know one another. |
Not exactly,she admitted.
I’m sure the same could be said about me,she added. She wasn’t sure if Aeistrios had explained to Renfri who she was, which was… Fine, in a way. Reah wasn’t exactly the most social and she kept to herself most of the time. All that really needed to be said was that she had quickly gotten attached to Aeistrios because she was so lonely. That in itself wasn’t too exciting or impressive. She didn't care for that now though. In the end however, it had ended up worth it, now she was a Queen and she held an empire of her own.

@Reah's answer was simple, confirming what Renfri had already assumed, and she gave a small nod to confirm the other woman’s own follow up. “He is not a man of many words when it comes to things like that.” Their husband was simple minded, he shared information when he felt it was relevant, or important, but beyond that it was up to them to figure the rest out. The Queen would take some time to figure out, the kind of quiet she was likely did not indicate a lack of intelligence, though it would please her to be proven wrong in that at least. With the work on her paw seeming to be done, Renfri stepped away, turning back to the plants scattered in the field. Again, her eyes are drawn to the castor bean. She moved over, carefully nipping at the base of the plant before picking it up and placing it off to the side. She would separate the seeds from the rest of the plant later, it would be easier to do so in the privacy of her own den. |
Her new patient then stepped away and she immediately turned back towards the plants that she had been studying. A small smile appeared on the Queen’s lips. R@enfri then took the plant for herself, and Reah would slowly get to her paws.
Well, I will leave you now so you can study those more in peace. I don’t want to chide you, but please be careful, she added. She was sure Renfri was smart enough to know not to eat anything she didn’t quite know, or understand. But, plenty of lions ended up eating a plant and ending up sick. The last thing that was needed was the woman getting poisoned.
I’m going to go back to the Plains, to rest, she informed the woman. She offered a dip of her head and awkwardly moved away, still having a difficult time walking due to her own injury.
