Created from shadows, seemingly, Alecto is not as intimidating as she could be at first glance. Yes, she’ll be big, as a cub and even as an adult, with a bulky frame that only serves to accentuate how big she really is. Size alone isn’t anything to be impressed by, of course, and chances are more likely than not that Alecto will never have to use it; even past her childhood, her eyes, as dark as they are, are still filled with a childlike curiosity, a genuine desire to see the world.
Being already swathed in shades in black should mean that there is little that could be much darker on her form, but Alecto’s whole being is dedicated to proving others wrong. Her fur, overall, is not as dark as it could be; darker eye circles alone prove this, and, were it not for them, then it would be the under-eye dots, dark as night. The same abyssal black makes up the rest of her markings; a flurry of stripes across her face, her shoulders, and striped socks. Her undersides are also the same ebony, like she’s been dipped in shadows and left out to dry. Her piebald markings are the lightest part of her, and even then they’re an ashy gray that covers her hind, a paw, and part of her face.
Alecto’s eyes are black as a starless sky, but that’s not the most catching part of her; should someone pay enough attention to her body behavior, they may notice the way Alecto doesn’t react to someone approaching her left side until they’re in her field of vision, or the way her right ear seems to make up for this complete loss of hearing in the other.
Personality
Alecto isn’t the first born, or the biggest, so she’s lucky enough to get through most of her adolescence without the weight of feeling as if she has to protect her siblings on her back. She still does, to an extent, because she loves them, and her love is not something to be messed with- she feels it so deeply, even towards those she barely knows, because there’s no reason she can see for her not to. She gives her loyalty so easily, without question, and the only expectation she has for others is to make sure she doesn’t end up regretting it.
She doesn’t consider herself cold, exactly, but she views the world through a very logical lens despite how strongly she feels her emotions. If someone is mistreating her? Even if it’s family? Sure, it may hurt, it may be agonizing for her, but she knows her worth and she knows that she’s worth more than being mistreated. If she has to let them go, she will. She’ll hate every second of it, but, to her, those seconds will always be less painful than dealing with a lifetime of pain. She loves quietly, even if, to her, it’s with a ferocity that can rival a thousand suns, but it can also always be taken away.
She’s not a guardian in the same sense her siblings potentially are- she’s slow to anger, and slow to react, but she does not forget and, chances are, she won’t truly forgive unless she’s sure she has a good reason to. Alecto is still stubbornly loyal to her family, as long as they give her that same respect, and she won’t hesitate to fight for them if it comes to her absolutely having to- the thing is, despite her size, she doesn’t want to have to. She’d rather talk someone down, or de-escalate the situation; whatever it does so that her blood, or her siblings’ blood, isn’t shed.
When it comes to outsiders, Alecto is a bit more cold. Empathy for them comes less easily to her than it would for those she knows and cares about, even should she not treat them any differently- as far as she’s concerned, anyone she meets should get the same version of her, and she doesn’t see the point in trying to hide who she is. If they can’t handle her, then that’s on them- she’s filled with a silent, stubborn refusal to ever change for anyone, and that’s the way things should be.
Despite that, she’s a hopeless romantic at heart; while not as charming as her parents, she’s still more than capable of flirting should she be interested enough in someone. For that to happen, though, they’d have to be truly interesting- she’s all but uninterested in romance and any idea of it as a cub, and the idea of actually settling down is odd for her as an adult. She doesn’t hate it, she just…isn’t sure what she really wants to do when it comes to things like that.
Being deaf in one ear doesn’t affect her life as much as one would think- sure, she knows she should have hearing in that ear, and sometimes it makes things harder, but she’s used to it by now- in a way, she doesn’t think she could imagine a world that she is fully hearing in. If anything, the most it causes is a state of perpetual awareness, especially as an adult; she’s not naive, and she knows, deep down, that it’ll be dangerous if she isn’t on the lookout twice as much as one of her siblings may be.
