Normalcy settles across the Bluffs in summer. Quickly the snow melts, and after a few more days she thinks that it has been a while since they've experienced a landslide. Ursula stays wary of them still, pausing now and then to feel for odd vibrations in the earth. But she's flourishing again, as is their land. Without the freezing temperatures and treacherous pathways, prey and vegetation are returning with abundance.

Taken again to hunting regularly, she's currently on the path of something worth securing. It's late afternoon, a time where the sun does not shine directly but still brightens the sky with dull oranges and bleeding reds. The temperature has dropped several degrees already, and will continue to cool once night falls. Ursula finds this time most comfortable to chase down quarry, as midday already swelters enough to tire her large body quickly.

Slinking forward smoothly, the cat has her ears half-lain, tail carried low over the rocks. Each step accentuates the high blades of her shoulders, the bends of her joints a half-crouch. How her eyes move, flickering about in search of a target, is telling. More-so the way she keeps her nostrils moving, mouth opened, very obviously scenting the animal(s) that she follows. To anyone who catches sight of her, it's easily apparent that she's hunting and is already on the trail of something.

Axelle wasn't far when she came across @Ursula. She had been coming back from scouting around the Bluffs' outer border when she had noticed the female, crouched and focused, likely already following something worth killing. Axelle decided to linger, to help the woman and her pride secure a decent meal.

Axelle fell in sync with the woman, crouching and readying herself. She picked up the scent rather easily, but waited for Ursula's signal.

3 years, no perks

He had circled around the Bluffs territory at least twice; the jagged mountains had made that somewhat difficult as Caelum ensured scent barriers were strong and there were no signs of foul play as much as he was concerned. The base of the mountain was mostly rockless, though the ground was uneven and holy at times. It made scouting a bit more treacherous, though he liked the challenge. His attention waned though when he noticed a pair of his pride mates nearby, stalking something.

Whenever there was violence or murder involved, Caelum was there. He had been strolling passed the borders of the Bluffs when he found her and Axelle crouching in the grass, eyes focused on something ahead, nostrils flaring and concentration elsewhere. The brute hadn't had to worry about much these days, so he decided to join them - if only for a bit of a release.

The lithe, skilled lionesses could drive the prey to him, and he could make the killing blow. Easy.

From above, he watched them gather. The speckled brown form of the first was familiar enough, the grey-and-brown maned girl less so (never properly met but spotted among group events). Even though no call had been made, the clues were there. Spots had something in her sights, the others gathered to help.

After a moment of consideration, he'd leave his perch to find his way down to slide up alongside @Caelum. Enough space was left between them that Ryker wasn't crowding in on his bubble, but his intent to join in the hunt was clear enough. He'd briefly thought of joining the women, but Caelum seemed positioned to catch whatever they flushed out, and he seemed to harbor a grudge - so it was occasionally funny to inflict his presence on the man to see what reaction it might get.

Not all hunts were as grandly proclaimed as their slaughter of the wayward hippos. Sometimes it was a subtle gathering of scents in the late day hours with weather promising further relief from exertion, if they were skilled enough to merit victory. Mostly it was his urge to follow @Ursula and prove what a great hunter he was. What a great anything he was. Unfortunately they would not be alone. He wished this a bit more than blood on his fangs (but not by much).

He saw the spotted lioness with another, and two chonkier males standing aside. He didn't know or care what the plan was. Plans were for losers. Strength was for winners. And for him, he followed his urge to fall into step with the lionesses, letting them take the lead in tracking while he enjoyed his protective presence behind.

What they tracked would require not the supple delicacy of their female compatriots, but the brutal and irrational force of Himself. Good.

There was a part of him that regretted this. He would have enjoyed the chance to spectate - not as much as the urge to tear which overcame him immensely, left him jittery and eager and slavering at the jowls. Drool spilled over his scarred lips and his tattered ears twitched in and out of his mane. His gaze switched between the two buffalo and the signals of his kin. He would have charged immediately, but he knew to give show to the superior feminine intellect. He was a fighter but he was no hunter; he waited for the others to be ready before he threw himself into the fray.

They - he - was victorious, and the blood stained black through the thick fur of their prizes. When the insides were revealed, all red muscle and viscous organ slime, these colors did not fade. Into his stomach! He panted, heaving breaths between insatiable gulps.

Caelum might've quietly noticed @Ryker at his side with disdain, but he only regarded the male and turned forward, eventually forgetting about him entirely.

Until they were forced to work together. When the chase was on and other strong males from their party threw themselves forward (@Vermier), Caelum pushed himself harder - pushing his limbs hard against the ground, surging forward to be one of the one's to sink his teeth into the buffalo and bring it down.

Though, once the kill was felled and the need for "teamwork" was finished, Caelum looked up at Ryker and snorted, licking the blood from his lips, vibrant against the pale of his face. Vermier quickly fell to the background because this was not about Vermier. This was about Ryker.

His tail flicked with quiet annoyance as he waited for the felled beast to be cracked open, and when it was, he took his share and left the area.

The musk of a buffalo became quite clear the closer they moved in. What was such a big animal doing near the mountains anyhow? Something must've chased it here, where it got confused and turned around...

No matter.

Axelle was delighted to help bring them down anyway. Sure, it wasn't lion's meat being served to her on a platter, but it was hardy, healthy, and could feed a good portion of the pride.

In a display of masculinity and violence, the males seemed to take over the brutal parts of the hunt - showing the gleaming and flawless way in which they were built for the kill. By the end of the charade, Axelle felt sleepy. However, she lingered to help carry off sections of the downed carcass further into the pride.

At least, once their prey became clear, it didn't seem as it he'd wasted his time. A pair of buffalo would feed the group well enough, and they were fairly satisfying to rip apart. Bulky and tough, hide that resisted the tear, a deluge of hot blood within. Delicious.

To his credit @Caelum didn't voice any complaint about his presence, nor did he sabotage their efforts merely to escape his company. His snort was met, of course, with a bloodied grin as he stepped back to allow @Vermier the first taste.

When it seemed an appropriate time, he would move to have his fill - bright eyes tracking Caelum's retreat - and then turn his efforts to carting what was left to storage.
