This was closer to the world she was used to, to how she thought all of the world was up until a short while ago. But even where elephants fell here things useful began to crop up, things she recognized like mushrooms soaking in the shade of a partly decayed carcass. Bright white caps quick to emerge, quick to falter away as the fungus survived under ground. She began to greedily break their thin wispy looking stems from the earth and began to form at her feet a pile of slender mushrooms for her own use and taking back to the Mire when she trekked back there later today. The sun just beginning to descend into the western part of the sky... she should be heading home soon.

Iofiel was always out to add more to his collection. The Oasis didn't grow much naturally but he was trying to build up his own garden there at least. And what he couldn't grow he at least preserved and kept in a cache. So that was the purpose of this trip, to transplant or preserve.

"I would be careful with those." The medic's deep voice rumbled out when he witnessed a lioness greedily snatching up fungi. "Not all of them are safe." He couldn't see the sort that she was grabbing to know for certain. He only knew that some mushrooms could have an adverse effects.

She plucked one, held it between her fingers and lifted it closer to her vision for an inspection. Their little caps were clean, freshly grown. Hopefully with enough spores she could encourage growth back home in the Mire. As she concentrated on the crop though she left herself open to be walked up upon. Suddenly a voice snapped into her brain, lending her ears to fall flat and her eyes to widen with surprise. There was an electric crackle of fierceness over her wolfish face, bare skin and thinly haired cheeks coiled into a snarl.

But he seemed harmless enough- that moment of brimstone and heat faded and Brynja turned her bright eyes to the mushroom again. Either way, useful no?

"I would say that it depends. There are some that allow you to speak with spirits but there are others that can lead to death." It all depended on which ones you got. "I would not say the death ones are useful." But then Iofiel didn't believe in harming anyone or anything. He thought all things had a soul, even the ground upon which they walked, and so all things deserved to be treated with respect.

"Are you wishing to commune with the spirits?" He asked, curious as to her purpose for collecting mushrooms. He couldn't think of some wound in which he would ever use mushrooms on. Perhaps it is some other ailment instead to she plans to use it. Some internal thing.

They are though. She set the mushroom down amidst the rest of them. She'd figure out which were the good, the bad, and the ugly later. Now that she had some samples she had more time on her paws. If you had someone suffering, and the only tool at your disposal was something to ease them into death it seems kinder to speed things along. And sometimes the only way to ensure you own survival... but that was besides the point. Death stopped suffering. Theirs or your future suffering.

Her ugly face shook back and forth 'no' without signs of second thoughts or doubts about that. She even seemed a little... adverse. Like maybe there was a fear somewhere in her of ghosts, spirits, and what was beyond. I have my hands full dealing with the living.

"I could see the sense in that. I prefer not to give up hope though and would continue to try for recovery. But if death must come then it must be swift and proper respect must be paid. I have no interest in causing harm myself." But still he must hunt and feed himself. He did so in the swiftest fashion possible and always thanked the prey for its sacrifice.

"Not all Rwh are vengeful." Iofiel said with a light chuckle. They were the ones that just got the most attention though. "I take it that you have some combat minded individuals for which you must care." Yes, those ones were always a pawful but it kept one in business for there was always something to patch up.

"I am Iofiel Nimri. I live in the Oasis." He figured that he might as well introduce himself. The pale male also moved closer to check out the spot where the mushrooms had been gathered from now that the lioness had taken her share of them. He was curious to figure out what she had collected.

She tsk'd her tongue against the roof of her mouth and her wolfish head shook back and forth a few times. Absently her paws were beginning to shift around the mushrooms, mentally counting them without looking. You must be very lucky then or very skilled to not waste what you have that way. Call her greedy or practical but sometimes an injured, or sick, lion was truly nothing more than a sink for resources. She did not like the suffering either, she did not like not being able to save someone simply because a store was low, wasted away on a fool. Care was not infinite in her mind- choices had to be made.

She then nodded. You could say that, they're not really under my care though. Surprisingly they still manage to be just as much of a handful for me. In a loving way. And by loving she meant barely tolerated. She got what she wanted from the Mire's lands in the end. I am Brynja, of the Mire. She gestured to the mushrooms as he came closer and began to peek at what was there. It's called the King Tuber Mushroom. It's one of the good ones.

"I would say that I have been lucky. I haven't been faced with death too often." And those that succumbed there was little he could do for them as just an apprentice. "Those that have died it was typically due to exhaustion and dehydration. Nomadic tendencies in the desert do not make for an easy way of life." The only thing that was certain was that it would be a struggle to survive. "Since coming here I've not had to encounter that."

He listened to her name off the mushroom and assured him that it was a good one. "For what purpose do you use it?" He asked with genuine curiosity as he looked over to the lioness. He was always willing to expand his medical knowledge. And in exchange he gave some of his own.

A large tree in the distance was nodded towards. "Be sure to grab some of those fruit as well. If you dry it out you can turn it into a paste for wound dressing." Because if she had warriors to deal with then you would need all the wound dressing trips that she could gather.

Mostly avoidable fates. She couldn't blame Iofiel for those deaths, there was only so much to be done for them. So much in the hands of the patients with that sort of thing. That's not a lifestyle befitting all. If they were to perish for those reasons, if they couldn't learn how to handle the movement and low supply of water death was their inevitable fate healer or no.

She brushed a mushroom with her paw, feelings its flesh like rubbery texture below. Common ailments, headaches, stomach aches. It's easy to propagate. As valuable a characteristic for her as its uses. ...do you think when the paste dries it could be rehydrated and used again?

"Yes, but when you are born into such circumstances there is little you can do for it. Those in the Oasis here have been lucky. There has been no need to go out to follow prey as it has turned up regularly enough." That had been the reason behind the nomadic lifestyle of his birth pride. One had to go to where the food was at.

Iofiel listened as the uses of the mushroom were explained to him. "I will have to take some for myself then." He did like to be ready for anything at all that could possibly come along. So he started to pick some of the fungi to take back for himself.

"Hm, I would say so since you must dry out the fruit to begin with." It would just dry out again and one would just have to add water back to it once more. Iofiel went back to collecting more of the mushrooms until he had a small pile of his own. "I should get these back and stored before they lose their potency. Perhaps I will see you again on one of my trips out." With that he gathered up his mushrooms to head back to the Oasis with them.
