A few months had passed since Myra had first set foot within the Mire. While she was beginning to accept that she would probably never truly get used to the sheer amount of mud, enough time had passed for her to feel as if she was finally getting to know these new lands that she’d found herself in. Enough time for her to refamiliarize herself with the trappings of pride life. Enough time for her to decide to fully commit to this new chapter of her life, wherever the path may take her.

Thus, it was time for her to claim what belonged to her. Standing in the center of the least mud-soaked clearing she could find, the gilded huntress released a deep, resounding roar, a claim for the rank of Lead Huntress. A position that she had once prized, so long ago, when she’d had sand beneath her feet and the sun at her back. She wanted it back – a long-ignored desire, now bubbling up to the service. Besides, who else here could be more capable than her?

Eagerly, Myra waited to see if anyone would emerge from the shadows of the swamp to contest her. She hoped that they would. This would hardly qualify as a satisfying achievement if the huntress didn’t get the opportunity to prove herself worthy of the title. Nothing worth having in life was free, after all. And she wouldn’t want it any other way.

he had expected there to be a fight by the time he had arrived. the members of his pride were keen for them, and alaric had taken his time moving toward the source of the call.

he was surprised, then, to find @Myra alone. he had little chance to speak with her since he had recruited her from the passage, but now he slides closer with a grin. "you must not hate it too much here, then," he mused, as he settled in to a defensive stance before her.

"the rank is yours," he continues, as he evens out his weight and tucks his chin to protect his neck, "but i'll never turn down a good fight."

"ladies first."

There is silence after her roar died down, the moments that followed seeming to stretch on and on. The huntress grew restless as she waited, fidgeting in place, anticipation elevating her heartbeat.

It appeared that there were no others who coveted the position for themselves, after all. A shame. Myra wouldn't be too disappointed, however, as she watched the King emerge from the swamp. His initial comment brought a smirk to her lips. "It's passable." She remarked flippantly as she began to mirror his actions, slipping into a defensive stance where she stood, her head dropping low while her pointed ears plastered themselves flat against her skull.

She'd been looking forward to seeing how much of a warrior Alaric really was. It was even better that she would get to test his strength herself. "Neither will I." Muscles tensed beneath her skin, her lithe frame winding itself up like a coil, anticipation rising like a crescendo within her blood. Claws unsheathed, curling themselves into the damp earth beneath.

At his cue, the coiled huntress would spring forward towards the King, light briefly catching on her bared fangs. She would veer slightly towards the right, blue eyes trained firmly upon his left shoulder. However, she would try to barrel past his shoulder, revealing her true target as she attempted to sink her teeth into his left hip, the claws of her right paw outstretched as they tried to find purchase within the skin of his flank.

A challenge would ring out and Ronin would slowly make his way towards it. He didn’t recognize the caller, but he also had no intention of fighting or testing for a rank. The Warmonger lived for a good fight, but not today. The warrior would arrive to find that the King had already met the challenger and was set to test her himself. The Sovereign would smirk and settle off to the side with a quiet thud as he lay down. The warrior was poised to move quickly if necessary but it was clear he was content to sit back and watch. How else would he gauge how battle ready the newer members were? It also gave him the time to assess the King and how he fought (not that he was inclined to test him).

Idle conversation faded and this -- this is the language he knew.

Alaric grinned as she lunged forward, evening out his weight and tucking his chin as he braced for whatever may come. To the left, then, and he responded with a shift of his weight, a step to the right, away from the side she had all but announced. Alaric had watched her come, had seen the focus of her eyes, and prepared himself accordingly.

It surprised him when she moved past, enough that he was briefly taken off guard. Only for a moment, only long enough for her to scrape the surface of his skin with her claws, to find her teeth upon his hip. It pulls an amused snarl from his throat as he retaliates, taking advantage of the fact that she was next to him and he was bigger.

Her teeth on his hip are little more than a simple annoyance, and he focuses instead on his own attack. His height will help him, here, as he twists his head and attempts to grab her across the back, just before her rump. To sink his teeth in on either side of her spine -- not enough to bite deeply but only enough to let her know that he could. He attacks but he also holds back -- this is not a fight to the death, after all.

Simultaneously he lifts his left paw, the one closest to her, and strikes towards her rear right leg. Alaric tries to hook his claws around her ankle and jerk it towards him, hoping to unbalance her and tip the scales in his favor.

Her feint allowed her enough time to successfully latch both her teeth and her right claws into their target, but it didn't allow her much more than that. If Myra had surprised him, he'd managed to recover quickly, as she soon felt his teeth sink into her lower back, mirrored pinpricks of heat on either side of her spine. With the adrenaline coursing through the huntress' veins, the pain of it was dampened to a mere annoyance to be worried about later.

More concerning was the sharp tug on her right ankle. The King's greater strength easily yanked the foot out from under her, and she was left wobbling precariously for a heartbeat, only her two left feet connected to the ground.

Unbalanced, she unlatched her jaws from Alaric's hips with a snarl, deeming it unwise to try to maintain her current position. Her right paw would try to shove harder into his pale flesh, to use him as a 'springboard' to spin herself to the left so that she could face the King's next move head on, her back stinging as she wrenched her flank out of his grip. She would settle back down to all fours, tail whipping out behind her as she tried to steady herself, her weight still leaning towards her left side.

Regardless, the huntress wouldn't risk remaining idle while she tried to collect herself. Her still-gaping jaws lunged forward in an attempt to grab hold of Alaric's left cheek. She would show him the same courtesy he showed her. There was no need to go all-out for this battle, but she was fine with drawing blood just the same.

his attacks land true (for the most part) and he is not surprised when she jerks away. the position they were in was not exactly conducive to a good fight, and alaric releases his grip with no preamble. he even takes the time to reposition, to allow her to move to face him. he does not pursue or push but acts almost casual -- this is for fun, after all, right?

she settles and then the fight is back on, her teeth flashing towards his face. alaric instinctively ducks his head, away from the ivory, feeling them scrape instead near the top of his skull by his ear. The skin is thin there and it tears and bleeds and he can feel it drip down his face -- but he pays this no mind.

with a snarl he lifts his right forepaw and strikes, again, towards her leg. this time he attempts to reach higher, aiming for the shoulder of her left front leg, attempting to hook his claws around the back of it in to her armpit. a move meant more to hold her still than to wound -- he does not want her out of commission.

continuing the downward motion of his head he seeks to sink his teeth, too, in to her left side, just above the shoulder he has aimed his claws at.

Bard EXP +5 attend a challenge The girl settled beside @Ronin to watch today's challenge. With each one she witnessed, the more she learned about how things were solved in their always changing world. And at this point of the road, she had accepted the fact that in the Mire, challenges were the everyday basis, the way how messages and desires were exposed and then expressed. It was fun and she enjoyed seeing each one of them. As a way to show her interest and support to her pride's development. There as she tucked on her guardian's aide, she observed each lions moves. Toes stretching on the mossy terrain, ears up and eyes full of joy.

Her teeth do not hit their mark, but she drew blood nevertheless, fangs ripping through the delicate skin near his ear. She can't get much of a hold there, however, and so she drew her head back again, blue eyes briefly catching on the bright red droplets, contrasting sharply against the paleness of his face. A small victory, but she'd take it.

She'd barely managed to draw her skull back when his claws hooked themselves into her left armpit, his strength enough to effectively hinder her if she were to try to retreat or pull any other fancy maneuvers. But the path forward was still open, and Myra was not afraid to take it, no matter her opponent's size.

She lunged once more, aiming to drive the point of her right shoulder into the center of his chest. The adrenaline surging through her veins carried her through the motion, despite her tiring muscles. Even as she felt his teeth pinch along the top of her shoulder and draw her own blood to the surface, the sensation drawing out a hiss of annoyance.

As she surged forward, her masked head lowered and turned towards the left, jaws open as she attempted to sink her fangs into the meat of his right upper arm and push against it. As much a punishment for his hold upon her as it was an attempt to get him to release it.

it is not often alaric is surprised in a fight. Myra, though he can feel her muscles tense before she rams forward, has surprised him. or, perhaps, impressed him. There are not many who would move closer to an attack rather than try to pull away, and he approves of this more than she might understand. It showed guts and drive, and he had a feeling she was going to be an excellent addition to the pride.

The thought derails him long enough that he does not avoid her attack, and he knows that there will be bruising across his chest. Her movement also forces his head back (as his teeth had targeted her shoulder) and he releases the slight grip he had had. His leg also begins to fall, dropping back to the ground and relinquishing whatever grip he had had on her armpit.

Not quite quick enough, he can feel her teeth snag the limb on its downward path. Alaric puts a bit of force behind the fall, attempting to jerk it out of her teeth even as he retaliates with his own attack. His teeth, again, flashing towards her face. He aims again for the left side of her head, attempting to bite down near the top where it attaches to her neck. It is his intention to grasp her by the nape and force her head down, to have her submit to his prowess.

Myra may have impressed him, but he was still the King.
